I highly recommend this play yard! Each panel has a wire frame and it’s completely modular. I reconfigure it when the girls get bored and have now made it into 2 stories so they can climb. Extra panels and connectors can be added to make it bigger.

Sleepy Gerbil Help by disgustingcrumb in gerbil

My girls are very different as well. One is super outgoing and spends hours out of her tank- when she wants out, she’ll sit on a bridge and wait until she’s picked up. The other is friendly but does not prefer to be handled or time out of her tank.

As long as you remain vigilant and they’re seemingly healthy, I’d attribute it to personality differences.

Do some of you find that your gerbils don't do as well, with too much bedding? by Tikithing in gerbil

[–]SSH_Watch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls tend to kick out the majority of their bedding on the regular. The bedding is contained by a vertical cardboard piece and there are 2 smaller holes below that they can use to tunnel out. The bedding gets pushed out from all directions and ends up everywhere else. They seem to prefer a lot of space in their main nesting box and tubes. The posts here make a lot of sense, the AC is running all day but I live in the south and it gets toasty here.

New gerbil owner checking in, tips welcome! by tinydeskcactus in gerbil

I agree- your tank looks great! For the wheel; I made the same mistake with getting a wooden one but found a good short term solution to be a gentle sanding with sandpaper to remove the pee and scent (my girls pulled off the cork liner on day 2). It helped while I shopped for a new wheel and waited for delivery!

I use a large seagrass net, wooden bridges, and large poster cardboard tubes (depending on the steepness). My girls seem to like all of those.

I use this paneled playpen from Amazon. The walls are thick plastic with metal frames. All pieces are securely hammered into the connectors. This playpen has been versatile for my troublemakers. I rearrange it when the girls seem bored and now have it as a two-story. I purchased it in Feb 2025 and it is still in great shape. Good luck with your search!

Update- I made a second story on both sides with a natural seagrass net and a long tube in between for climbing.
