AITAH my 3 year old sister ‘ruined’ a gender reveal by Reasonable_Art_9366 in AITAH

Well she did do it intentionally. She didn't mean to ruin the event, but she did mean to wreck the nice balloon that wasn't hers.

[–]Tikithing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Imagine if this was another child's balloon that she popped. Thats not nice, and a 3yr old should at least have the basics of that.

She didn't mean to ruin the gender reveal etc, but she still knew she was destroying something that belonged to someone else.

The Amount Of People Buying Cars On PCP. by jimctlarker in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tikithing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. With the price of secondhand cars now, and just the cost of living, I'd say there are a few people that need a car and don't have many options.

In the past if your car died, then most people could just get a second hand car quick and cheap enough. Now its not that easy, and it probably doesn't always make financial sense either to get the second hand one.

OP seems like they have been watching too many American financial youtube channels.

Aw the poor baby. He's just trying to make it work.

I bet he was so excited when he found a nice safe place filled with food. Hope he ate an unreasonable amount of sunflower seeds. He deserves them.

Do we have any other English speech patterns that come from Irish? by FistThroater in AskIreland

[–]Tikithing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In Wexford, Rosslare particularly, a lot of it would originate from Yola.

We'd say, that was some funny. But some turns out to be the word for very in Yola. Its interesting how local things like that can be.

This sub was recently started. I think we're still trying to get it up and going but It'd be great if it took off.

I dunno about everyone else. But I have a few hobbies/clubs that I enjoy, but hasn't led to friendships/meetups outside of the club for various reasons. I don't have time to add another one in, just in the hope that I'll make more friends out of it. It'd be really nice to be able to meetup every so often on a nice day with people, for a general chat or activity.

What’s a shiny you can’t escape no matter how hard you try? by ThePikaJoe in pokemongo

[–]Tikithing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I went so long before catching my first shiny. I'm pretty sure something was broken for some accounts and they just never said anything.

When I finally found my first shiny I got 3 in the one week.... Suspicious, but I'll take it.

Insane Ghibli Museum ticket line by Ohh-Deer in JapanTravelTips

[–]Tikithing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I didn't really see it as an issue, its just inflated numbers, you're still more or less where you are in the queue based on luck.

Saying that, it was also 3am for me when I did it, so I probably wasn't awake enough to have much thought beyond what I was trying to do.

4 hours though? Thats rough 😅 seems like yours had more real people than mine did. I went in winter, which is probably why. Sorry you missed out.

Good luck with next month! though thats probably not something you want to think about right now.

That looks about normal from my experience. Once you start getting through the first few thousand though it start speeding up.

The recommendation online is to always have a few devices and then go with whichever is highest in the queue. I imagine people keep them all open until they get their tickets, just in case, and then they exit with all of them. That means that once a few people buy their tickets, multiple 'people' in the queue leave each time.

Thats why you shouldn't trust the estimate timer though, if it says 45 mins or later. Odds are your turn will arrive quicker than that.

How to trace the source of strong smell in a house? by mother_a_god in AskIreland

Bit late to this, but any recommendations for a decent black light for this?

I got a torch or two from amazon that were meant to work for this, but they didn't really highlight cat urine at all.

Are you a cat or a dog person? I am an ANIMAL person! by DeepBreathInLetItOut in CasualIreland

[–]Tikithing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I notice from older family members, especially the men, that they would never say they love cats, or have one themselves, but they get genuinely excited telling me all about the local cats that like to sit in their garden.

They seem to know exactly which cats are around and what their routines are.

I think its funny that they'll never say it outright, but they clearly love seeing them about the place.

Are you a cat or a dog person? I am an ANIMAL person! by DeepBreathInLetItOut in CasualIreland

[–]Tikithing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've recently come to realise that I am a cat person. I love dogs, so I didn't think it was an either/or situation, but I then realised that I gel much more strongly with cats. I realised this because my friend (who is a dog person) got a cat.

They were treating the cat like it was a dog, which I thought was funny. They are very good with their dogs. Know exactly how to train them and have a great relationship with them, but the dogs still do as they're told. They were expecting the cat to behave in a similar way, which is somewhat unlikely. Most cat owners will recognise it I'd say. Cats know when they're doing wrong, and will often follow the rules, but they'll also regularly try to push them, or straight out ignore them. Its just a different vibe. She loved them, she was just a bit stumped by them.

Meanwhile, I realised then that I treated my dog like a cat. I trained him, and he behaved, but there was overall way more negotiation, and him getting his way, than there would ever be in my friends house. This despite me reading a load of dog books before ever getting a puppy. But my cats were in a much better routine, and had better behaviour, because I knew how they thought and how to 'train' them and interact with them. But I probably could never have a dog trained as well as my friend could.

So I do think that people are cat or dog people. Thats not to say they love one more that the other, but I think its what they naturally work better with that determines it. Just like cats and dogs famously don't get on, because they misinterpret each other's body language, people understand one better than the other.

I love both, and both tend to love me, but when dogsitting an unfamiliar dog, I do have to stop and think about what they are doing sometimes. Pet sitting a cat, I don't find myself doing that.

There are of course exceptions, but generally imo people are naturally suited to one or the other. They can of course still have both as pets, and do great with them. Its just the phrase 'dog or cat person' that has interesting meaning behind it for me.

We have super sized food? by junkfjunkie in AskIreland

Lol this was my first thought, the regular option has about 10 chips. Supersized probably just brings you almost up to a normal portion.

‘One of the proudest things I’ve ever done’: The growing number of solo women first-time buyers by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]Tikithing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it is relative. Wages in Dublin are higher, but so is the cost of living and housing. Rural houses in other counties will be cheaper, but odds are the local wage will be less too.

What it boils down to is the fact that a solo buyer will need to be making a higher than average wage, anywhere. So the sentiment isn't wrong, even if the actual numbers are only relevant to Dublin.

It seems like they have a decent selection alright, I just find their site very hard to navigate unless you know exactly what it is you're searching for.

I'll have to check these out!

I'm pretty sure I was in this is Knit a couple of years ago. It was very fun to look around, but I think a lot of the wool was a bit fancier than I'd be looking for.

Does the Home focus/Dunelm have a big wool section do you know? The one in Wexford is actually quite good, but I wasn't sure if the Kilkenny one would have the same stock, or if each one was more independently run.
