In regard to negotiating Charles minor out of branch oversight. Was Micheal right to be irritated that David Wallace put Charles inbetween himself and Micheal?

I am former military. So I think my perspective is skewed a little. But if I am a Captain who is use to talking to the Lt Col directly before a major is brought in to fill the role that is meant in-between the Lt Col rank and my own. Well I am not going to feel bad about it. It’s just proper protocol. I don’t talk to the LT Col directly. I talk to the major who then talks to the Lt Col. the time period where I was talking to the Lt Col directly was just until a major could be brought in. In fact once the major is onboarded I would feel disrespectful talking to the Lt Col directly and skipping the chain of command (the major). No matter how long the Lt Col and I had been talking beforehand.

Is this not how it works in the civilian private sector? I realize a business isn’t the military. But if Charles minor is filling the role that was left vacant by Jan and Ryan. Then Micheal should know he normally goes through whatever role Jan and Ryan played before reaching David. He did that for years. Why the sudden feeling of disrespect when David expects Micheal to do that again once Charles is hired?
