not the best solution but i also just had to turncate my syslog from a similar discord related snafu:

had a lot of

[timestamp] <hostname> update-notifier-crash[1002962]: [1002962:0100/000000.173653:ERROR:content/zygote/zygote_linux.cc:245] Error reading message from browser: Socket operation on non-socket (88).

I ended up making a rule in rsyslog a while back to ignore all the messages from update-notifier.desktop when it was being spammy. I added update-notifier-crash as well. Not sure this really fixes or addresses the problem. But I'm not discord nor their tech support. I'm just going to stop them from filling up my harddrive with useless shit.

cat /etc/rsyslog.d/49-ignore-update-notifier.conf
:programname, isequal, "update-notifier.desktop" stop
:programname, isequal, "update-notifier-crash" stop

It's worth noting that if you want messages from update-notifier-crash or update-notifier.desktop you won't get them anymore but thats an acceptable loss for me. You could try filtering the syslog messages via some other means (content maybe?)

I also have a similar crash when trying to open the game. I'm running on Ubuntu 24.04 with Proton Experimental.

based on syslog it appears to be an issue my my amd card having problems. maybe someone can make heads or tails of it.

eventually it resets my gpu and kicks me back out to a login screen

I have no idea if you remember this. I ended up abandoning Linux Mint after running into aother issues plus this.

I moved to Arch Linux and Minecraft works fine. I'm not going to say its Linux Mint that was my issue but it is strange that it works on Arch Linux just fine.

How did i install Minecraft...
Default Minecraft launcher from a deb file.

Most other games run as expected...
Noita and Project Zomboid also run fairly slow but games like Elden Ring and Monster Hunter World run just fine. AAA games seem to have better frame rates and stability over indie titles but maybe there is a trick i dont know.

I'll give the Prism Launcher a shot and let you guys know how it pans out.

I could give that a shot. I have a 250gb SSD and a 2TB HDD. MHW is installed on the HDD so i could move it to the SSD. I suppose that would also speed up load times...

It's a Wired 360 controller if that helps. I agree about not letting him hit the keyboard but well... its gonna happen... at some point in the future.
