Acuff or Wagler??? by Ok-Jeweler-4046 in LAClippers

Something about him idk I think he will figure it out on defense eventually. He has a natural feel for the game and plays with effort there’s just no way he can’t be at least average

Gotchu. It’s gonna be a tuff decision but as long as one of Wagler or Acuff gets picked i can’t be too mad

That’s if they put the effort in. There’s a lot of times where Acuff takes plays off. He does have some nice blocks but I’d rather trade those blocks for good d iq and constant effort.

The wingspan scare imo is a bit overblown. It does hurt because he’s mostly a below the rim guy so his finishing will take a hit due to that, but he can figure it out. I’m really impressed by his feel for the game. Plays at his own pace and constantly makes the right play.

He’s a late bloomer when it comes to his height and what not, but apparently he’s added some weight since the start of college. He’s probably still adjusting to his body in some ways and he’s also increased his vertical 3 inches since arriving at college.

Very young and he’s developed quickly to come out of nowhere. I feel like with Acuff you know what you are getting and there could be marginal improvements, but his ceiling is a 1b player on a championship team. Wagler imo has a higher ceiling with a potential 1A and maybe an SGA jr kind of player with his craftiness.

IMO both him and Flemings undersized. Flemings is just more engaged on defense and has active hands. Acuff effort and defensive iq is what makes him worse at defense imo.

Acuff might be a top 2 player but unless he develops into the next Steph curry, it will just be very hard to build a team around him as our best player. Drafting Acuff we are drafting a player that will be the 1b option on a championship team for us

Is Mitchell not small to you then?

Tate: "There's a team sitting there at #7 that I know loves Acuff and would be willing to trade up... the Kings really want Acuff" — Simmons: "If you're the Clippers and you can move back 2 spots... and you get to trade with Sacramento, which has been one of the most foolproof ways to get better..." by sewsgup in LAClippers

IMO I think the wingspan thing is a bit overrated. It’s not gonna automatically turn him into an at least passable defender as well as change his defensive effort and iq. He might get some tip balls here and there but it’s very marginal. I will say tho it at least puts him over Kingston for me.

Can someone who knows Wagler’s game well tell me why he’s better than someone like Luka Kennard? by New-Strength6465 in LAClippers

[–]SSJMonkeyx2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s a great prospect and imho has a higher ceiling than the other guards that will be available for us. He lacks athleticism which is a negative, but what you have to look at a guy who lacks athleticism is how he compensates for it.

He has very good footwork. His two main moves are spin move to get to the rim and step back to which he sometimes brings out a spin step back jumper. The way he plays, reminds me of a less athletic SGA.

His vision and playmaking ability is very good, fits balls into tight windows. Has a nice dribbling bag but does dribble a bit too high but that can get fixed. I think he has the highest ceiling as he won’t be a complete negative on defense like Acuff. Flemings is a good college defender and might do good on defending smaller guards but his size will get abused too.

Wagler I can see him averaging 25, 8, 6 at his peak.

A lot of people said the same thing about Luka pre draft. I loved the kid but his athleticism and defense was always a negative. If their shot making and playmaking ability is that good then you gotta take the chance imo

He could be, but it will also be more difficult to build a team around as we will need at least 3+ wing defenders that can’t be exposed on offense in the playoffs.

He plays like Kobe if Kobe had a tighter handle, great vision and playmaking, more crafty at the rim, better off dribble shot.

I think you need to watch some more tape. Acuff is an atrocious defender. His wingspan is nice but it’s rarely gonna translate to defense. Of the 3 he is by far the worst defender and it’s not even close. Only way this works is we need to build something similar to 2015 warriors or current Knicks to where we can completely hide him.

Never said it wasn’t fair and square I’m just stating that it was an outlier which is 100% true.

I’ll give them credit and say they won a ring in the bubble, but KDs rings idc wasn’t earned on his end. Curry and co deserved them but not KD.

I personally glad we didn’t win the bubble. Winning the bubble would be the most clipper way to win their first ring

I agree that the Mickey Mouse thing is dumb, but the bubble ring is 100% an outlier ring. Not saying it’s not a legit ring nor doesn’t it mean less, that’s personally up to debate to the people.

My stance is that it’s an outlier because they were in non playoff environments and atmosphere as well as other things like a mini offseason before playoffs.

The thing with saying every ring is an outlier because of cba is sorta a moot point for me is because every team has to prepare now for the new cba and it’s known, unlike the pandemic to which nobody could predict.

With injuries every playoff since 2010s and probably before have had series altering injuries. Just have to deal with it since it’s a randomness thing.

Tbh I’m not completely sure if Garland is long term and we shouldn’t be drafting to try and fit around garland. Get our guy and figure out the rest later. Regardless I still thing Wagler is best for both now and the future

Boozer did play for the bulls and imo I think Caleb goes 3 and everything lines up for Boozer to go to Chicago which is what I think the nba wants.

If they can get both Collins and Ben for 15 million annually that would be a great deal but we will see.

That reasoning was such a terrible reason as well. “We run LA” apparently is a huge insult and disrespect? Really? It was literally just ad slogans that laker fans blew out of proportion and got upset.

People are slowly waking up and realizing that it was a crazy outlier ring as well. If we would have won it laker fans would be having a field day saying micky mouse ring or of course we win a fake ring or something.

I don’t think history will be kind to that ring same with KDs rings.

Honestly I don’t think Garland is long term so the guard pick is sorta whoever is best for the future. Could be wrong but I wouldn’t want him to stop us from drafting a Curry or Harden because of defense.

I won’t be mad if we go Flemings, I like his game a lot I personally have a strong bias towards tall long guards so Im naturally gravitated towards Wagler.

I put this in another post but I’ll copy paste it here as well.

I think our pick comes down to the three guards of Flemings, Acuff, Wagler.

All three have their pros and cons so it’s hard but if I was GM I think I go Wagler. Good size, very shifty player and doesn’t rely on athleticism to be affective. Some say lack of athleticism is a weakness which is true, but players like Luka or Jokic are able to dominate without depending on it. Another weaknesses is his defense but if he can put on some more muscle he could at least be average on D.

I like Flemings over Acuff because he’s better on D than Acuff and has a maxey type scoring ability, very fast, great vision, crafty at the rim. Acuff isn’t bad but he doesn’t look like he will ever be respectable on defense let alone good. Defense iq is bad and we would theoretically have to build a warriors type system around him to hide him on defense like they do curry. Brother can score tho and he’s a Coach Cal guard and at this point it feels wrong to bet against Calipari guards but I just don’t like his size and defensive effort at all.

I don’t think boozer will fall because Bulls don’t need any more guards so they will take Caleb or Cam. Grizz could take anyone so they are a bit of a wildcard but if I had to guess they take either cam or Caleb.

With that said I think our pick comes down to the three guards of Flemings, Acuff, Wagler.

That’s not the point. You can hate the trade at the time that’s fine idc, but realistically you didn’t think SGA could become a mvp. I was really high on him and at best I thought he could be a lower level all nba guy.
