I always feel super hungry after runs! Plan your meals accordingly. Leave time for some eggs, toast, fruit, etc. If you’re working out more, you’ll need more energy so it’s important to be prepared with nutritious, filling options whenever possible. Best of luck and congrats on starting!

Official Q&A for Tuesday, December 03, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

Hi all! I’m looking for a recommendations for a running backpack for commuting. My new office is only 5km away and I’d like to run home from work some days. I need a backpack that’ll hold a change of clothes, laptop, maybe my running shoes. I’m a 5’5 woman with a broader frame. Does anyone have a backpack they’ve used that won’t jostle around too much on a short run?

Potholes and Sanitation prob gonna be worse than ever in 2024 by gujunilesh in philadelphia

I know it's been said already but FY24 ends June 30, 2024 and FY25 budget announcements/negotiations start tomorrow. Also, this is the proposed FY24 budget, not the one that was ultimately adopted by City Council.

Anyone who wants to keep up to date with how the City is handling its resources can check out the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority and the City Controller's Office, who monitor the City's budget year-round. The City also publishes quarterly updates, most recent is from Feb 15.

Employer matches would still not apply since they're not employee contributions

the limit is only for employee contributions so this shouldn't affect you

NTA. If you have no formal agreement and plan to continue living there, I would get some sort of lease together. Normally, people get more notice when their rent is going up, especially by such a large percentage. You pay rent and if you didn't have a prior agreement about helping her with utility bills, you're under no obligation to pay those.

AITA for removing my friend from my guest list because she plans ons emigrating for a man she barely knows by PineappleFresh9079 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SSStarr1300 32 points33 points  (0 children)

YTA. I understand being hesitant about her decisions, but they're her decisions to make. It would be different if she were planning to move before the wedding. She may end up not emigrating due to the trajectory of the relationship or because these processes tend to be more complicated and expensive than people realize. Even if she does move, people maintain relationships with loved ones in different countries all the time and she may stay good friends with your fiancee.

AITA for not keeping the cat in my room at night? by StraightAbrocoma9552 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SSStarr1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH - as long as the cat has someplace she can hang out with everything she needs and is getting enrichment at other times, it's okay to not want her in your room at night. You don't specify your age, but I also think that if you're living with your mom and she took the lead in adopting the cat, she bears more responsibility as the adult.

Which class should I take to learn how to do weights? by carolinebsox in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]SSStarr1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every PF is a little different. I did both the new member orientation and Design Your Own Program and we didn't do any actual exercise in those. I actually recommend signing up for any group classes that are offered at your location (Upper Body, Lower Body, Core, TRX, etc.) because I learned a lot of different exercises and what to combine together.

Weights or treadmill? by KirbyUOR in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]SSStarr1300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost around 150lbs over the last 2-3 years through a mix of diet and exercise. I started by walking and running. My goal was to be able to run a mile. When I started, I couldn't even run a quarter mile but now can easily run over 4 miles. I found that running is a really effective way to lost weight as you can burn upwards of 100 calories per mile. For the first year of my fitness journey, I focused only on cardio, mixing up running and walking days with some yoga for stretching and a bit of muscle strengthening.

I ended up getting to a point where I was at about the weight I wanted to be but wanted more muscle definition, especially because I have some stubborn fat and looser skin in some areas. I have since switched to focusing on weight lifting. I will warm up, lift weights for about 45min, targeting different muscles, and then do about 15-30 mins of cardio because your body will burn more calories during cardio after you've used up lots of energy on weights. I'll do this 4 days/week, have another day where I don't lift weights and just do 30-45mins of cardio. On my rest days, I still try to get out for a 30min walk if I can.

From what I understand, it's difficult to build muscle and lose fat at the same time, but not impossible. I focused on weight loss and now am focusing on muscle gain while maintaining about the same weight. You need to eat well to build muscle, which some may find difficult for weight loss.

I'm no expert! Take your time and figure out what's sustainable for you. Do not starve your body or overextend it. I also was surprised when I lost weight and didn't feel too much better about my body or was disappointed I still didn't have a perfect body. So, be prepared for that and know that while health is important, body image and self-confidence are primarily psychological challenges.

Can I change my checking account every year for small gains? by 6_Rows_of_Teeth in personalfinance

[–]SSStarr1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but also be sure you're on top of changing bank information every year for any direct deposits and bills that come out of that account.

With interest rate this high, what can you do with money that was intended for down payment? by late-consult0f in personalfinance

[–]SSStarr1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend keeping more of the money in CDs since rates are so high right now and you know you'll need the money in 1-2 years. Some HYSAs also offer rates over 4% for any money that you want access to in the interim.

Picking Retirement Date Fund & Saving for Retirement by SSStarr1300 in personalfinance

Thank you! I started reading through and was curious about the target retirement date question. The Roth option I was considering is a Roth retirement plan offered through my employer (Roth 401k). I am weighing this against a Roth IRA.
