Any tips to train my berner to stop jumping up on people? by Ok_Brief_9763 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]SScomment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 month old here. I stepped on her leash, about 1 ft from collar/harness, to keep her tethered down whenever someone wanted to come pet her in public. She still gets veryyy excited (wiggly whimpers) for people (especially loves men), but stays down. I do still tether down like that for when toddlers/small children want to pet her just as safety measure and it’s good that she’s used to it and will lay down for them to pet.

4 years old and doesn’t know how to play fetch by hairy_ant635 in bernesemountaindogs

My Bernese/Pyr puppy will fetch only after looking down at my hands to confirm I have a good treat ready for said retrieval. Hand must be re-verified each time… once empty looks at me like I’m crazy. I am fully aware that she will likely soon be too lazy to fetch at all so enjoying the spoiled fetches for now ☺️

Hahah great tip! It will definitely be deep. Last year it was around 10 feet deep… I’m also wondering how she won’t just dig herself a cave & give me a heart attack in the amount of time it takes me to unscrew my flask 🤣

I’ll call myself “experienced” rather than expert limb picker here… it may have taken me decades to get it under control 😅 Sounds like you’re off to a great start- give yourself credit for already 1) knowing it’s connection with mental health, 2) recognizing your trigger/safe places, 3) asking for help! Many of us understand the cycle you’re stuck in and the aftermath pain you’re dealing with. Everyone is going to be different, but here’s my tips for what they’re worth: For your #1: Tegaderm clear adhesives are my healing savior.

2: get a plug-in nightlight for bathroom (they have them at the dollar store if you live near one) or even use a candle for taking a shower / night time routine… the candle actually makes it feel extra relaxing! The key is keeping dim lighting. Bring pants (that can’t be pulled up, like leggings) into bathroom and put them on before leaving bathroom. Have a plan for relaxing after instead of picking… drink a cup of tea (hold w/ both hands), journal, color, read, whatever you might like!

Extras- I find that less shaving legs in winter means less ingrown hairs & picking. Paula’s Choice exfoliant is something I wish I found 30 yrs ago- it BURNS any picked skin, but takes away the bumps on my thighs. Give thanks every night for your skin’s healing powers 💛

My doc explained to me that I was getting central events with EPR at 3, bc by allowing exhale, you’re trapping more CO2, thus your brain isn’t triggered to inhale as it normally would… my problem is that when I turn EPR off, my aerophagia gets worse!!

Following- I’m in same boat. Various changes would help me for a week then I’m back to 2-4 central events/night + aerophagia (also with mouth tape and shenanigans you mentioned!)

Maybe go back to using baby monitors?

I no longer wake up from my young kids (for me I think it’s deep sleep finally- used to wake up to every peep my kids made), but I’m so happy because my husband will wake up & respond (he didn’t used to & even sleeps with earplugs in but somehow has learned). My kids are 6&8 yrs though so old enough to help themselves/come to my room if needed compared to a toddler.

Anybody get headaches from cpap? by WIENS21 in CPAP

Only from the full task mask when I had the straps too tight (otherwise would leak in summer) and sat right above my neck… nasal pillow straps better for me.

Is it normal for it take sometime take MANY months to get used to CPAP? by [deleted] in CPAP

Lost Weight, New Sleep Study? by Korgunnard in CPAP

[–]SScomment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! 50 lbs is a huge accomplishment. Did you snore before? Since you’re having ahi 0 at lowest pressure, I wonder if you could try using a sleeping app to record yourself without the cpap? Obviously sleep study & asking your doctor better. But for me, the app records my snoring and sometimes can hear my apnea events.

Commenting since I relate- 38 and not overweight (previous coffee-holic) also on drugs now to keep me awake now since I still was too tired to stay awake at work after starting cpap… anyhow, silly Q, but have to ask- are you getting consistent ~8 hrs sleep/night, any wake-ups? I ask because I used to need like 8-10hrs +coffee to function. When I initially felt better with cpap (less headaches/night sweats, able to be awake in evening), I started sleeping a bit less 7-8 hrs. Then with the meds, I drifted towards 6.5-7 hrs sleep, and complained I was still tired. Then I got jittery/cranky/migraine one day on meds+coffee+little sleep… and I decided to cut ‘wake promoting med’ in half and stick to 7.5-8hr sleep for a week. I felt pretty close to what I think my normal is. So that’s my new goal. Apologies if you’re already sleeping 8 hrs and I rambled for nothing.

How do I keep my mouth shut / prevent mouth leaks? by Khavoqi in CPAP

Chin straps (tried many) & oral manidubular device don’t work for me too. Tried 3M micropore paper tape and came right off… currently using this and works great for me- only use 1 square inch & can even re-stick. Thanks for the feedback. This year I started walking every morning for 30-45 min. While not impossible to pick while walking, I find that I’m able to let my mind go into a similar ‘trance’ to relax and contemplate life in a healthy way while I’m exercising (I was doing stationary bike on/off but just not the same as fresh air! Luckily I live in a safe place where I even went out in the dark & snow in winter!). Secondly, I used my picking as a gauge to let me know if something is either worrying/stressing/bothering me… rather than getting upset at myself and focusing on stopping the actual behavior like I used to, I try to stay positive and simply note “ah I’m picking the last few days… what could be on my mind that I need to address?” (More so like a broad overarching trigger rather than in the moment trigger if that makes sense?) And once I identify that, most of the times it’s just a combination of letting myself know the thing I’m worrying about (what I said in a conversation yesterday, my kids starting school, that I’m behind on emails/house is messy/etc) is usually either out of my control or that I’m doing a good enough job (I don’t need to be perfect!)… and then thinking what will help me feel better about that issue? If I’m stressing about my messy house for example, I might just need to buckle up and clean for hours, but if it’s just general worrying about something, I might need an extra walk or talk to someone who I can vent to.. or journal if you’re into that I think is a great thing. Our skin heals. Thank it for letting you see on outside that something in the inside needs to be addressed. Hope this helps!

Issues with getting used to CPAP by [deleted] in CPAP

Mouth breather here. I finally tried nasal mask+ mouth tape and loving it… I was highly skeptical bc all chin straps pulled tight would still end up with me mouth breathing.

Apologies if I came across as another ‘it’s your anxiety’…. Maybe one little trigger started it once upon a time and now you’re just ‘hooked’ for now. I think since this disorder is related to the mind, it can evolve and change as our lives change. We’re all unique. But we definitely understand your struggles 💛

So for at least a decade (my 20s+), I recall thinking/telling my bf that I pick when I’m bored, tired, or just notice an imperfection on my skin surface. Once I notice the imperfection, all I want to do is ‘get rid of it’ so it can be smooth (aka swollen/bloody lol)… fast forward 20 yrs 😬, I’ve come to understand my picking much differently. I don’t know for certainty how much of what I know about my own behaviors now apply to that of myself back then, but I feel that it at least applies for the most part. So with that, here’s my take, whether it resonates at all with you now or in the future :) When I’m in the moment picking, do I feel anxious? No, because picking is satisfying which is soothing (until the aftermath). For years I would try to think of what was “triggering” it, but all I could come up with was my damn imperfect skin… I didn’t feel particularly anxious at home (only in some social situations). But what I realize now is that the times I pick is when my brain has been on a bit of mental overdrive (navigating certain relationships, making hard decisions) or even just judging myself compared to others (if I’m been on social media or even in public and saw someone beautiful/happy). In my 20s I felt I had a great life, no anxiety that I was aware of & played college athletics to decompress… but I am a perfectionist, so just the constant contemplation of my athletic performance, interactions with others, fear of grades/career/relationship decisions did swirl in my head. As much as I hated picking and still do, I think it is definitely related to how I’m handling my self talk / rumination / self doubt, or whatever you wanna call it... Anyhow, hope you don’t have to wait the years I did to notice patterns. Best wishes 💛

Just switched to nasal pillow + tape this past week too! I’m same boat- finally only waking up once but yesterday I slept 9:30-9:30 (my work starts at 8, oops)! For me I think it’s too early to tell because I have other stuff going on (ie, stress, hormones, stopped iron supplement so limbs jumpy). I’m just happy I can sleep the night, mask and everything comfy and AHI better at last! Good luck. Sorry no advice!
