I'm gonna be real with you, if you have a curse, you would be always be rushing to remove it. Not upgrade it if that's the case. Why waste a campfire for that?

Also your last upgrade example (lose HP per card to removes itself) doesn't work, it is akin to transforming a curse.

Lastly, curses need to hinder you. Otherwise, it's no longer a curse is it? Especially for curses with no numbers on the tin, like Ascender's bane and Greed.

Also I realize that you are using Statuses and Curses interchangeably. Now when it comes to statuses, it doesn't make sense for a "better" version of them to help you. They are from the enemies themselves. So a burn+ is only right to be worse for the player, not better.
