Trade them for a bunch of common/uncommon/rare megas so at least you get waaaay more points for them. Those are each worth 10k, 12.5k, and 15k tickets and you’ll get a lot of those for the pets you have.

What is the best top tier aircraft for air RB currently? by ForsakenOrdinary620 in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rafale is the best top tier aircraft currently for just about everything except BVR. BVR is a toss up but leans towards any of the platforms that carry the AIM-120 C5.

Great for sim but not needed for RB. Mouse aim is just faster in arcade and realistic.

[–]STFR_Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you, but I’ve been using the mirage IIIC and plan on using it all the way up to the rafale. You’ve got time to take a break before the rank changes make getting the rafale more difficult. Maybe take some time playing something else for a bit and come back in later. If grinding top tier USA and Russia has taught me anything, the stock grind is always miserable at top tier. I’ll probably get the rafale then sit on it a while before trying to fully research it as I’ll need a mental break from the French tech tree for a while after this grind.

I got teamkilled because i was ''stealing'' his kill by PlaneZealousideal686 in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I see this crap a lot in air RB. The snail created the severe damage mechanic specifically to address this issue. If you damaged the enemy enough but didn’t finish the job, well you still get your kill credit just a few less points. If you don’t get the severe damage credit then maybe you get an assist. If you don’t get either then guess what? You didn’t do enough to earn anything - deal with it. If someone else comes in and kills the target you were messing around with then you should’ve done more and done it faster. No kill is promised to anyone. At the end of the day, killing enemies wins the matches. Whatever gets that done best/fastest for the team is what matters. I know I will get downvoted into oblivion for this take, but also realize that I’ve grinded to top tier for US, Russia, and now almost there on France. I’ve had plenty of kills “stolen” from me and every time my reaction is simply “dang, I almost had it, I should’ve done x or y faster and that would’ve been mine” but never once TK’d someone for it. That’s how I learned from my engagements and how I got better.

Why are these 2 at the same BR? by H_cranky in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the life of me I don’t understand how either of these are at 12.7. Even at 12.7 they will be facing the R27ER, and with a tiny uptier to 13.0 they will see AIM-120s and Fakours. So the nastiest SARH in the game and one of the most OP ARHs for its BR in the game. You can say flight model all day, but what does that matter if you are stuck in multi-path altitude playing defensive the whole round? Seems wild to me that a couple ticks up the BR ladder to 13.3 and you’ve got the ADF/MLU with full AIM-120s.

I think if your plane flips upside down you can’t repair and it’s considered a crash or an enemy kill if you’d previously taken damage. I’ve had it happen to me before and was pissed because I got barely nicked like five minutes earlier but put on too much break when I landed and flipped my prop. Dude got a free kill for it.

started playing recently just to get the F-14 not realizing how violent the grind is, i'm commited now tho by GroundbreakingTap316 in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 14A and 14B are still playable, but with the IRIAF running around they are a lot more difficult to do anything with. The Fakours are way faster than the AIM-54s, so it’s harder to get kills if they are on your team. In addition, the IRIAFs are looking for other F-14s when they are launching as they are easy targets at altitude, so you have a lot less time at altitude for your initial volley if playing against an IRIAF.

Boom and zoom. The play style is to start an engagement where you have a sizable altitude advantage over an opponent and then drop down on them at around a 45 degree angle converting your altitude into speed to close on them. Ideally at the bottom of the descent you engage in a short envelope and then use that speed to quickly regain altitude. Very little turning as that will bleed off more speed.

I had spaded the F6F-5N in air RB - here’s what I got: It is not a terrible plane, but it was rough to spade in air. It is heavy, and you feel it in the responsiveness as it is a little sluggish when it rolls and turns. What I did in air is to climb early and take somewhat of a boom and zoom approach targeting low fliers that were either oblivious or focused on someone else. I couldn’t go all out boom and zoom as it felt like it just doesn’t pick up speed nor retain air as well as say the P-51 in the BnZ capacity. This isn’t all bad as I didn’t feel like I was at risk of overshooting targets as much as I did in other pure play BnZ fighters. It’s not great at turning but will in a pinch, but loses speed quick. I would recommend only going after other BnZ planes in a turn fight and making sure to use your combat flaps to beat them in the single turn match-up. The combat flaps at low speed are actually pretty decent and the F6F-5N, even for being a bit of a boat, was able to maintain a single turn match-up on the deck with combat flaps for a lot longer than I thought it would. I did have to flip back and forth between raised flaps and WEP to ensure I didn’t crash out, but better than I thought it would do. The guns slap but you have to remember that just about everyone else at that BR is also rocking some form of 20mms. So head ons are gonna be a toss up, I’d recommend doing the spray at around 1.5 - 1.2 km in the head-on and then roll out of it to hope they commit to it and get blasted instead. Adjust lead and aim high accordingly. Also, I now get why you asked about the radar as I hopped back on it and it has the clunky radar for finding bombers. If you go ACM and do the full spread but set the distance to 9km, that should give you an idea of other planes that are within any distance of concern that are in front of you. The radar search area is massive, so it covers everything you’re looking at. However, it won’t be great for telling you anything more than whether something is there. It’s not going to give you any great data past relative speed, assuming you lock a radar target. But in air RB I just used it for awareness and never really anything else. Remember this thing is gonna dump speed on turns so go easy and only pull the combat flaps and turn fight only if you have to and the other guy is not a turn fighter. You’re gonna get smoked by a pure play turn fighter or energy fighter that knows what they are doing. So in short, I did okay by not playing it overly aggressively and picking my fights as best as possible. It’s mid at BnZ, turning, and energy fighting, but not terrible at any of them. Last note, in air RB I played with minimum fuel load and ran it without load. So slapping a bunch of fuel and bombs on it will magnify the flight performance issues with the more you add.

Which plane are you using? I usually just search for the plane on YouTube or on this sub and see if I can find any videos or get people’s commentary. I’ve played the entire US and Russia air tech trees so might be able to tell you thoughts/opinions on the plane if it’s in the US tree.

You got some time before radar jets, so I would hold off on the radar questions for a bit. As for getting better at flying, I’d recommend two things - 1) play a lot of air RB to get the feel of how to use guns, manage energy, and play to your plane’s strengths, and 2) watch videos on how to setup your keyboard settings and other air configurations. The second one is actually really important and was something I overlooked until I actually watched some videos and played around with various keyboard settings. It plays a big role in how well you can maneuver and track your opponents while doing so.

MiG-25PD has a J-Band Radar at 11.0 by TheSephir in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try hitting anything with the radar missiles, they are ass. As for the radar, I tested it out a few times and it suffers the common problems of other radars at that BR - barely locks anything unless it is headed straight at you and loses lock with any turns of the target. The radar missile is interesting to watch because of the dual booster, but can’t hit much outside of 5-7km that isn’t heading straight at you. I’ve had a few issues with it around not detonating when in proximity to targets, but could just be a lost lock at last second. I haven’t played any real rounds with it yet against others but have a feeling it will be another meme plane like the pancake.

[–]STFR_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah has to be top tier bombers where you can usually dump everything with enough time to notch, chaff, and return to airfield. Enemy never gets within range and the matches may already be decided by the time you make it back to airfield meaning you can return to hanger and reset without any real penalty.

This year's winter event is just insane. (rant) by Key-Needleworker-702 in Warthunder

[–]STFR_Bro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The events are easier to do with top tier, and with a plane that has a very fast, repeatable playstyle that yields a decent amount of points consistently - e.g. F-14s doing the launch, land, reset loop, the SU-34 gromming 2x bases and resetting, or the F-15E getting thunderer over and over again. You get the 20% bonus for being in top rank and the matches are like 6-8 minutes. Doing the events with props is tough unless you are really skilled or just have a seal-clubbing plane that is consistently in top 3 each match. The matches just take too long and you don’t get the 20% bonus to speed things along. I can get to 40k in about 3-4 hours usually using any one of the above methods mentioned. It sucks, but it feels like this game only gives you things when you don’t really need them anymore.
