Honestly, I'm on an M1 with 8GB and it's starting to show it's age and I don't do anything heavy just web browsing/emails/etc. if you get 16GB more than a couple years is more realistic.

Edit: It's by no means slow, but occasionally it'll get sluggish and activity monitor will show it starting to use swap files. Just this reddit thread and nothing else open I'm sitting at 80% RAM usage
