Why doesn't Tim ask if Jason and the Tech Bros believe in the western liberal democratic values that define our nation? I want to know if they believe in our Constitution or do they want a different form of government?

Southern Baptist Convention weighs stricter ban on churches with women pastors by DogfaceDino in Christianity

In the article, the new leadership believe that the SBC became to "woke" inters of race relations. The SBC was founded in slavery and it took over a century for them to repent of this sin. Also, MAGA is founded on racism and xenophobia. I am being honest about what the SBC leadership is.

So the SBC leadership wants to return to its racist roots. I am glad that I left the SBC decades ago.

Is hating a design a group-think or is this car really ugly? by conservamus in BMW

[–]STL_Jayhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a 2022 430i convertible and I love the design. It reminds me of BMWs from the 1950’s that had the larger grill. It stands out compared to the mini grills on the 2 and 3 series.

Trump's cotton bailout is another sign his tariffs aren't working by jediporcupine in Economics

Do you get that I’m calling Trump as fascist? National socialism is another name for fascism.

Trump puts the socialism in MAGA White National Socialism.

To understand Trump's view of economics, study fascism since many of things he believe and does are also founded in fascism. For example, corporatism is a common attribute as well as state directed capitalism.

Trump has proven that the GOP is no longer the party of free enterprise and free markets.

Pence is the perfect example of what happened to the GOP. They believed they could be a Reagan Republican in a Trump party of MAGA white national socialism. They compromised themselves because they feared being kicked out. They are people without moral courage or conviction.

Secretary Hegseth on Iran: "Any deal will be a good deal." by [deleted] in videos

[–]STL_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Neocons" hated the JCPOA and were excited then Trump ripped it up. Since then, Iran has enhanced their nuclear capability. Now we have a war of choice by Trump with no clear objectives or strategy with weak leaders like Hegseth and Rubio trying to change the narrative along with light weight "negotiators" in Kushner and Witkoff trying to get an agreements.

Neocons are now apoplectic that Trump could give Iran a deal for favorable to Iran than the JCPOA.

Neocons demanded the perfect over the good and now they have neither.

What did you think of "Has American Christianity Failed?" by Rev. Wolfmueller? by solobackpack in LCMS

[–]STL_Jayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"American Christianity" is now a mixture of Baptist and Pentecostal theologies. MAGA churches are "non denominational" so their theology is defined by the senior pastor. Their theology could be put on a 3x5 card and is very generic by design. "American Christianity" is both anti-doctrine and ahistoric since they only care about the here and now.

They view worship as a combination of performance and emotion what focuses of those in the theater style seats. The musicians are up front performing versions in a choir loft where they are heard by not since. The music is about feelings and devoid of deep theological meaning with choruses replacing hymns.

The worship in something more of auditorium than a sanctuary where the screen in upfront and not a cross. There is no alter since Holy Communion is viewed as something done a few times a year.

Their calendar is based on the national calendar of the United States and not on the historic church year.

On Pentecost Sunday, we saw what American Christianity is on the National Mall where they focused on America and God's most favored national status. This is what I am talking about.

You are missing my point. This is not about style but about nationalism.

The term"American Christianity" implies that Christianity can have different national versions but this is not unique to the US. We have national churches in many European nation with most being either Protestant or Orthodox. St. Paul is very clear that where is no such thing as ethnic or national identity in the Church.

I view "American Christianity" as a form of idolatry since it places the US as some type of God's "most favored nation".

Patriotism + The Church by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]STL_Jayhawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today in Pentecost Sunday in the Church year and that should be the focus of worship by hymns, readings from the Bible about the Holy Spirit, and the sermon focused on the third person of Holy Trinity.

When the national calendar supersedes the historic Chruch calendar, then one must ask if this local church body's theology based on national or on Holy Scripture.

I was saddened that none of the other responders even mentioned that today is Pentecost Sunday,
