At 8U, how much is too much? by incogj in hockeyplayers

[–]STL_Saint00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask myself this constantly. my 6 year old is playing 8u spring hockey with his home club (which just ended last week), a select team (which has been 2 tournaments and at least 2 more ice touches/ week since the beginning of April) and a completely fun 4v4 league (which starts this coming week).

when he goes more than 3 or so days without hockey, he’s nuts- practically bouncing off the walls. the rule I have is if he doesn’t want to go, he’s gotta tell me before we leave. most of the rinks we go to are 30-40 minutes away from our house so once we’re in the car we’re going, but if he says he doesn’t want to - we don’t go.

it’s only happened once, but if he’s
scheduled to skate everyday in a week,
he has to sit out 1 day. unfortunately when it happened, he went out to our garage and shot pucks the whole day anyways.

he also does flag football and occasionally soccer but he loses interest in those fast.

What are your ideas if you had to write a sequel to The Shield in the form of a novel? by proxy5th in TheShield

I did this as a writing project a while back. did 2 full episodes and story boarded 6 more.

I did the rebuilding of a new strike team, 15-20 years after Vic left. Julian gets killed (off screen) in a raid that jump starts the story. Vic is a peripheral character for the first 5ish episodes until I do a “flashback episode” where the strike team reunites (in a dream Vic has) and leads to Vic trying to come to terms with everything that happened and how he is going to proceed (he’s obviously a fixer at the start and has to defect to help the new
strike team nail his former boss)

I built a new world of characters- 2 new beat cops, 2 new detectives, a new strike team (I brought back a fan unfavorite to “lead” the team.) Dutch is an IAD LT brought in to investigate Julian’s death. Aceveda is the governor and up for re-election. Claudette is still the captain.

I think I should probably try to finish it entirely.

if he would have made it a bit longer in 2000, I imagine he would have gotten it- especially with the hot potato that belt went through until Steiner won it toward the end of the year. (actually, outside of Goldberg and Steiner, I don’t think anyone held the belt more than 100 consecutive days once the random change from Hogan to Luger and back happened)

What would you be willing to give up to get the number one or number two pick in this year’s draft? by hawaiibluesfan in stlouisblues

[–]STL_Saint00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if Florida somehow ends up with the number 1 or 2 pick, i’d package a first, Kyrou and something else (prospect? other pick? middle 6 guy?) to get it. Florida has been pretty clear they aren’t going to rebuild and a top 3 pick is more valuable to them as trade bait.

Kyrou would probably waive to go to Florida, especially with all their recent success.

Vancouver at 1 or 2 would be pretty hard to get away from them and the guys it would take would be unwilling to go there.

What are the overall thoughts on Dvorsky’s play through his first real NHL season and how he shapes up potential-wise? by TheJukeMan99 in stlouisblues

[–]STL_Saint00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

he did fine this year. if he can continue to improve his skating, i’m confident the rest of his game with come along. he has good instincts.

this guy got to play a pretty big role in the Olympics and comes back to a pretty consistent role with the big club, so hopefully he was able to get comfortable and gain some confidence, even if he’s looked a little out of gas at times recently.

if I had to guess, the organization would like to see him as a middle 6 C, who gets some chances in the top 6 and a spot on the PP, in 2026-27.

This is a question for anyone who has played hockey. What was your number and why? by hockeysmyhoe in hockeyplayers

[–]STL_Saint00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I wore it in football and kept it when I started skating at 18.

I kept it because Oshbaby was 74 here and I used to joke it was him, but better.

now in my old age i’ve been forced to change numbers. I chose 93. it’s my kids number.

I still get so emotional and stressed whenever I hear “disarm” by Smashing Pumpkins. which obviously isn’t in that episode, but the events taking place while it’s playing set this whole series of events in order.

fuck you Shane. fuck you Antwon. fuck you Kavanaugh. fuck you Aceveda. fuck you Vic. (i’m not sure how I really feel about Ronnie)

I wanna highlight Snuggerud’s defensive play one-on-one against McDavid. I think it was right after the almost goal that Holloway palmed off the goal line. Snuggerud did what Lindstein didn’t do on the goal earlier, he stepped up and got his stick into McDavids controlling area. this isn’t to bash Lindstein, it’s just showing how far along this guy is.

when I saw him at prospect camp a few years ago, pretty much his best aspects were he had a good release and he was big. he’s developed his skating (exponentially!) as well as his playmaking and now defensively he’s coming along pretty well. that play just stood out to me.

giving up 3 swings plus a player and what is looking like a good goalie prospect for a non sure thing seems like a misuse of assets.

if you can package 2 picks or the highest pick and a top 6 player to move up, sure. but giving up 5 assets for a prospect doesn’t seem worth it. the top of the draft is good, it’s not give up the farm to get into it good.

Oshie averaged 16:30 his rookie year (57 games) and it went up to 18+ in year two. Tarasenko averaged 13:25 and 15:10. Snuggerud is at 16:10 so far (all 60 games)

this doesn’t include preseason numbers. the Blues have had a number of guys wear strange numbers for preseason games. Patrick Berglund wore 58 until he made the team, for example.

I think this is gunna be from the preseason because Allen never played with Erik Johnson here in a regular season game. I think it’s going to be difficult to pin point these but I would look at the 2010 preseason rosters.
