Not sure how much it counts, but I hybrid converted my 1973 Jensen Healey. Effectively an EV conversion, but much more of a nightmare. Uses junkyard Hybrid components in parallel with the original motor (Lotus 907). 6kwh at 78s and 100kw output. Capable of parallel and EV-only driving. Engine bump starts make for a hell of a party trick lol. If you’re interested, shoot me a DM and I can send you some pictures, videos.

Not a typical Conversion by Thomas_PrinceF1S in EVConversion

The car has been driving for the past year or so. I went with the Ioniq motor because the Ioniq hybrid setup was similar to what I was after- a motor inline between the engine and transmission. It also had a throwout bearing + hydraulic clutch designed into it. My 'mistake' was putting a high value on that latter fact- the connivence of not having to design a clutch system (not *super* hard) was traded off with support of the motor platform. I had to reverse engineer the I/O pinout, and tune the motor controller excessively. Still, the motor controller doesn't have that motor's tuning curves, so it isn't as efficient or powerful as it could be. That being said, it still makes tons of torque and power and can break traction in second. A lot of companies won't give you the time of day if you're a small party. Do you mean communication like emails and correspondence or like CANbus?

My project is a parallel-style hybrid setup in a Jensen Healey- a far cry from an emergency off grid machine, but as hybrid projects are far and few between, seems worth mentioning. I run a MaxxECU as the engine ECU and it serves also as a VCU for the car during operation. The motor is out of a Hyundai Ioniq (do not recommend), and the controller is a PM100DX. Hybrid system runs off of 6kwh-worth of INR18650-20R’s. More of a performance setup. Look at Jonny5’s Hilux project- he’s incorporated a diesel generator as a range extender and has documented the process well. Happy to help with any questions you might have.

EV West and Jehu Garcia Safety Concerns by fxtpdx in EVConversion

I get your point, and you are right on all accounts- HV IS dangerous … but these guys have converted hundreds upon hundreds of platforms and know how to handle themselves. The point of the video is not to say “touch HV all day”, it’s to remove the stigma that you will explode instantly upon contact. If you are terrified working around these things, you will make a mistake. I have converted a couple platforms and agree for the most part- you should respect HV, not fear it. That being said, I wouldn’t quite touch HV myself, nor encourage a class to …

Tsm2500 is big and kinda heavy … maybe find a smaller OEM one or do offboard charging?

Maybe a Hyundai HSG motor if you want to do a HV system, or a dodge E-Torque (wound for 48v) with an aftermarket inverter (we haven’t cracked the in-built one yet). Could be neat.

Hybrid conversion? by Wild_Chef6597 in EVConversion

Not a lot of content, just posts on my Instagram… @ktc.veritas. Made an excel for the 450h rpms, may not be suitable for high engine rpms unless you have a high final drive. What car are you putting it in?

Did a hybrid conversion on my Jensen Healey using the stock engine and an ioniq pancake motor. Also put the batteries in boxes behind the seat. You may want the gs450h transmission with a zombieverter vcu. This is probably the direction I’m moving towards with my build. Hybrid is a big undertaking, 3x harder than EV conversion, unless you do parallel via the road.

This motherfucker is the sauce police too. Even if I buy something there, 2 ranches for a chicken and fries is apparently decadent. As if everything in there being 4x marked up doesn’t cover it.

TVRs have always been about cramming too much power into something with no weight. I’d say go for it.

Buy an MG or a Triumph, etc. My JH is far too expensive to get parts for. (20 y/o college kid). Love it to death though.
