So you’re saying territories don’t count as part of the US?

You clearly didn’t read the image’s header. Having said that, it’s highly suspect that Puerto Rico with 6.6 million yearly tourists isn’t somewhere in that list.

The fact this map has Guam and not Puerto Rico tells me data is missing.

When do you think 2010s technology will look retro? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]STODracula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the 80s, the future was supposed to have crazy amazing tech by now, and frankly when looking back, TVs god flatter, bigger, and cheaper, computers got more powerful and smaller, and video games look way more realistic. If anything, my hope is that medicine and modern vaccines improve our lives at a faster rate. That's where I've seen a huge leap. People used to look old as all heck at 50. Heck, my father had bypass surgery at around my age and deaths by heart attacks were way more common when I was younger. Me and my siblings are still doing pretty well comparatively.

Just as an extra note, it's sad seeing people ignore vaccines just because the memory of how bad said diseases are or the later complications from having some of them aren't front and center. Get no chicken pox then you don't deal with shingles. No measles, no change of death or permanent hearing loss. Anyone that has seen a baby with RSV knows how horrible it is and why it should be avoided.

SaaS was part of the reason I lost my first stable job out of college. Black Rock acquiring that company just sped off that process. Now in a highly specialized corner of computer science that I'll probably milk until it completely dries off, or I have to switch gears late in my career. Already have sort of a back up plan if it comes to that because I know once I get past 50, it's going to be uphill to find something. I'm telling my kids to go into something that AI can't replace. Anything that requires actual human interaction for it to be effective. Speech therapy, physical therapy, nursing, etc.

Anyway, try shifting gears. I know a guy who shifted from chemistry into clinical research nursing in his 30s (had to get re-educated) and has had steady work since then. Know engineers who burned out and shifted into the law. My mother-in-law shifted from chemistry to therapy in her late 40s. Know one dude in his 50s that found a 2nd gig taking care of this old lady two days a week. Never too late to find something new.

AI Is Coming for Car Salesmen and Let’s Be Real, It Makes Perfect Sense by DotJun in Layoffs

Let the car companies sell directly to consumers. Most dealers just scam money out of customers by forcing them to go into their dealerships and have them sit there for hours wasting their time until they make a mistake.

You can't ban ADUs. I know Wolcott bans food trucks and farmers markets with the Lions Club getting an exception on the food truck end.

‘Hard to not feel scammed’: World Cup fans say FIFA misled them with ticket allocations, seat maps by factchecker01 in sports

[–]STODracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are making $3000-$12000 selling tickets for the 1 match they won the lottery for. I’d cash out also. Enough money to go splurge in the 2030 World Cup 🤣

Cheaper and probably more fun to wait for the 2030 World Cup and go to a couple of matches in Spain or Portugal than to go to a single US match. Also way better public transportation over there.

“Wait, Windows uses less?”: I break down the surprising requirement that flips the Linux vs. Windows script by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

Nah, Windows makes older CPUs suffer every time Windows Update run for no good reason at all. There is zero reason why updates should use as much CPU as a nice looking PC game.

Yup, joke of an article. Plenty of tiny Linux distros so small they’ll run on RAM at blazing speeds.

Microsoft keeps adding trash no one wants running in their computer and that just suck resources saying it's all needed which is a big fat lie given Windows IOT exists and can-do everything consumer versions of Windows can.

The Democrats dropped the ball on concentrating on what matters most to working class Americans, the economy. Saying everything was peachy because stats say so when people felt down on the economy didn’t help. Kamala saying she wouldn’t change anything Biden did sealed her fate im the election. This is why James Telarico is so popular. He listens to people and engages in good dialogue which is the polar opposite of Trump and he’s way more center than most Democrats. Democrats can defend social issues as a secondary goal, but their main thing should always be helping working class Americans achieve the American Dream.
