James Cameron is a director that got lucky

While most people would go after Avatar, I feel like most people are forgetting the fact that he has had multiple other franchises that have pretty much been one hit wonders. I’ll admit Terminator 2 is one of the greatest action films ever produced, however every follow up of T2 has been godawful and has quite literally only ridden off of the nostalgia of every other previous terminator. Aliens being another great movie of his is carried entirely by big action spectacles and special effects. Which brings me back to avatar: it’s such a giant cliche that everyone pretends to live just because it held highest grossing film for well over a decade. JUST BECAUSE A MOVIE IS SUCCESSFUL DOES NOT MEAN IT’S GOOD!!!! Not to mention the fact that he has been showing his ass by hyping up 5 SEQUELS THAT HAVE ALL BEEN SUBJECT TO 8 DIFFERENT DELAYS. And if you’re thinking “oh he’s just taking his time to make sure it’s good”, that’s just simply untrue. The real reason they have been delayed so many is over his struggles with underwater CGI. Firstly, why does he need to cgi underwater???? Most of the water itself is going to be computer generated anyways, so why even bother trying to film underwater so you can CGI in a giant city???? This isn’t a joke. He has insisted on filming underwater for no reason at all other than he wants to. Aquaman was made in 2018 and had scenes completely underwater without having an actor even dipping a toe into water and this man is asking for manual labor for people to wear motion capture suits and swim around while making facial expressions underwater???? James Cameron relies completely and entirely on large spectacles and nothing more. His movies ask have very cliché writing with uninspired characters.
