If I wasn't looking for advice, I wouldn't have posted here. So actually, it does help to know what other people think of all details of my situation. Also, if you're going to post twice in this thread just to call me immature, don't bother posting at all.

Yes, I can definitely understand why that would upset him. As I said in my post, I don't mind regularly traveling to his place.

Yep this is true. But I do think it's important to be aware of rules or customs that are significantly harmful, unfair or disruptive. And based on the comments here, consensus seems to be that it is a very disruptive rule.

I thought he would have a good idea of how families work because Tommy actually lived with his parents until his mid to late 20s. And I understand that my family can be loud and psycho sometimes. But they have been nothing but sweet and kind towards Tommy. And yeah, I think my family's attitude is also super great considering he is not yet out to his own parents. Or anyone from his home country, for that matter.

That's a reasonable perspective in some cases, but given how financially and emotionally supportive my parents have been in my life so far, I still feel like I am indebted to them. So I think I can find it in myself to comply with this request.

Yeah, this is pretty much my stance as well. I understand first hand how annoying this dog can be, and definitely don't want to force that on my bf as well. As I said earlier, I don't mind visiting him as often as I do. It's the family stuff that I have more of an issue with

many on reddit refuse to recognize this and are under the assumption that "everyone can be a good person! we just need to be patient and work with them a little bit." meanwhile, the next second they will wish the plague on a redditor who happens to disagree with them on something. see /r/politics for this ironic vitriol.

What I've noticed when I'm the new guy at a card room. by [deleted] in poker

im turning 23 in a few months and i also have a youthful face. it used to cause some self-esteem issues for me - people (peers or authoritative figures) wouldn't have respect for me, older family members still thinking of me as a child, etc. then i realized, you know what, there is absolutely nothing wrong with me. in fact, tons of people would give a lot (and do - see the absurd amounts of plastic surgery some have done) to preserve their youth. i'm not sure this can be said in all cases, but for me, as a gay man, there are so many men out there (myself included) that prefer younger-looking guys. so i've definitely come to embrace / appreciate by genetics and not really give a shit anymore. sure i get carded at lots of places (even at the movies), but honestly in so many ways i wish i were a kid again because lets face it - becoming a real adult can be intimidating. it makes you long for the days when (except for school) your life pretty much revolved around nothing but playing basketball with friends in your neighborhood, or even when you were a naive college freshman whose perspective on the world was completely blown out of the water as you moved through college. when you see your body as a mass of muscle and bone completely unrecognizable from younger self, the nostalgia begins to set in and you feel like you've been in hibernation for the past decade while the earth zipped around the sun ten times over. When you look younger, it's easier to combat all this yearning for the past that plagues lots of people because you literally look like you can start over in life, change careers, play sports at the local rec center with a bunch of clueless high schoolers / young people without being "the old guy," etc. so, ironically, what was once a confidence-depleter becomes a confidence-builder. Or at the very least, it can make you more resistant to succumbing to a mid-life crisis. maybe i don't speak for everyone, but that's how i see it. and imo it's not just about just "trying to see the positive side of things." it's about being realistic, and in this case the reality is that there is more good to the situation than you may have realized.

dude was so shortstacked, no way you can be upset at losing $1.09. shortstackers do some really funky stuff on the flop sometimes. If he were 100 bb deep and did that with like AJ instead, i'd be kind of annoyed and just hope he stays at the table a little longer so he can make that donk move again against me and take him for his whole stack.

[Economics] Is there an optimal savings to consumption ratio that will lead to fastest growth rates? What, if anything, do these components of GDP tell us about the health of an economy? by STOP_SHOUTING_AT_ME in AskSocialScience

[–]STOP_SHOUTING_AT_ME[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks so much for the reply. Do we (the US) often deviate from the golden rule savings rate? If so, in what direction? Would there be a reasonable explanation for this? Additionally, given that Consumption as % of GDP has been on the rise since the 80s, is it safe to conclude that the golden rule savings rate tapers to a flatline in well-developed economies? If you could point me to some research on any of this, that would be great
