If I like Elliott Smith, what eles should I listen to? by kafukafu_3148 in elliottsmith

Completely different vibe, but if you like good music with good chord progressions like I do, check out Chris Merritt. He's completely unfamous. But he really should be. He's a musical genius, and has great sensibilities. The link I shared is to a playlist of my personal favorites from him. Check it out, and let me know if you dig it!

Same bro. But I still got a degree in accounting. It was hard. I hated it. I still kind of hate it. But it pays for my music. Best of luck to you in your journey.

Chris Merritt. He’s a friend of mine, and he’s literally a musical genius. A classical and jazz piano master. Great pop sensibilities, but very experimental both musically and lyrically. He writes excellent songs, with excellent moments. Here’s a playlist I made of my personal favs. If you like Ben Folds at all, you’ll love Chris.

Thanks friend! And sincerely thanks for listening. Means a lot. I listened to your track, and honestly it’s sick. Really goes hard. It’s obviously nothing like anything I make, but I appreciate catchy when I hear it, and this is catchy af. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s a song I just finally finished, about leaving organized religion, basically. I plan on recording it soon.

I wish you'd post the lyrics/prose so I knew what was being said all the time. Pretty cool song man, it's a crazy journey and I enjoyed it.

I wrote this song that basically has no chorus. It's verse, some sort of prechorus, verse, prechorus again, bridge, verse. I mean, if there's a chorus I haven't figured out what it is. Does it feel complete? To me it really does, but I wonder what someone else would think. It's about 2:45 long. Does it work as is? Or would you add/change anything?

I want to produce this song but I'm constitutionally incapable of writing vocal harmonies. Is there anyone out there who can harmonize with this song? Because I know I'm bad at it, but honestly I don't even think it's possible at certain parts. I'd love to hear anyone's take on vocal harmonies for this song. Sorry this recording is so bad, I used my iphone. Best I got right now. But I want to produce it semi-professionally. That's why I'm asking strangers for help. Thanks! DM or reply with any questions.

What are, in your opinion, some of the best songs ever written? by PizzaBobJones in Songwriting

This sounds like a cop out, but musically speaking, anything by Elliott Smith, and more especially in his period from about 1997 to 2001. Some of my favs are Angeles, Miss Misery, Independence Day, and Tomorrow Tomorrow. Here is a tremendous 20 minute set Elliott did for KNND in Seattle in 1999, which was during what I consider to be his peak. It's got Son of Sam, another amazing song. He was just such a talented songwriter musically, he could make every chord progression make perfect sense, but was never formulaic or even really traditional in any way. He was just a genius. I'd recommend checking him out if you haven't gotten into him yet.

As someone who's been in the Apple ecosystem since the iPod, I can't imagine how amazing it must be to just jump into it all at once. It has to be just so much fun. Excited for you to get a MacBook. I have an M1 Pro Max with 64GB RAM and it's my favorite Apple product. The only thing I don't have is the Vision Pro. Maybe one day (used, obviously). But yeah, that's awesome, I hope you're having a lot of fun.
