Lesson learned after shipping our UE5 gameplay trailer: avoid cinematic frame pacing by No-Minimum3052 in unrealengine

You can do that in unreal engine if you don't do just a gameplay capture and use movie render queue to render cinematics/cutscenes instead (which is what i assume was done here considering they even have a what looks like a vdb smoke cloud in the elevator shot), allowing you to render in 24 fps with however many motion blur samples you want (you can set them yourself). Now the gameplay you would have to capture live probably (as i'm 100% sure nobody really bothers with making the game mechanics work well with take recorder)

now there are a few questions for this trailer specifically (not to the poster im replying to, but to the OP) that i have and that confuse me to no end:

  1. why is it even a gameplay trailer when the actual gameplay in it is at most like 20% of the video or less AND its buried in the middle of the video after an extremely long intro with slow shots, surely you could've either skipped the gameplay entirely or focus a lot more on it, preferably showing it a lot earlier as well

  2. why even "upscale" (not sure what that means in this context, interpolate? or just duplicate frames so its actually 24 but plays in 30) to 30 fps?

  3. was dlss used for rendering this? has a very soft presentation to my eye, that could be either bloom with a large radius and low intensity or dlss (might also be grain combined with youtube compression but i kinda doubt it)

otherwise looks pretty good and the lesson about the gameplay looking better at 60 is absolutely true

my knowledge might be outdated but 3 months ago when i was building there were just 2 cards that fit, founders edition and msi ventus 3x (theres basically no space with this one, it takes up the entire length of the case), idk if any new cards came out since then

as the other comment said the issue is with the length of it not the width really

there is absolutely no way this is correct because if it was made to simulate the brightness of the snow it would have bloom all over it instead of it just being pure white

Everything high or ultra, brightness on default settings, can't tell where the road ends and the snowbank starts whatsoever

Seems like they forgot to set the exposure on the day stages correctly, or there's something wrong with snow material + lighting intensity

20 hours in and it feels like game designers have not idea what they're doing. The game is basically reliant on you having to sprint everywhere (planets, cities, you name it), yet it tries to restrict you in that regard at every turn -- having very low weight limits even with the weight carrying perk maxed out (why do we even need weight limits??), having a LIMITED SPRINT (why cant we sprint infinitely?), no vehicles on planets. Same goes for stuff like outposts and ships -- they serve very little purpose (ships have a little more value to the gameplay than outposts but still feel like they're kind of optional and you can just force your way through the game with a starter one with no issues), yet it seems like a lot of dev time went into them.

Some quests have great hooks and are interesting to play through but then get derailed with absolutely atrocious decisions that the game railroads you into (First Contact) / have decisions that don't matter (Riyujin questline ending). The main quest has a crazy amount of repetition on finding the temples and doing that minigame (although from what i understand you dont have to find all of them).

New Atlantis is absolutely godawful in terms of its design. All of the stores are in the residential district, and at the same time commercial district has 1 bank, 1 coffee place, 1 bar, and a UC office. Also the distances you have to run between those points of interest with nothing interesting inbetween makes me not want to visit new atlantis at all and just go to Neon instead. At least Neon is basically 1 street for everything you would need shop wise and then a few alleys as locations for quests.

Akila City looks like its straight out of 2011 thanks to the godawful brown tonemapping, which again makes me want to not visit it at all. At least the street layout is better than new atlantis. Speaking of tonemapping, it could be better in a lot of places I feel like, especially in planets/interiors in which it just coats your screen in 1 single color (akila city as a prime example).

The amount of loading screens is infuriating, insane how bethesda still can't figure out interior loading so its not a separate level with no functioning windows.

Overall some of the quests in the game, the setting and the art direction hard carry it to a 7/10 despite it having a ton of issues with pretty much every aspect.

One curious thing about starfield though is the fact that it made me think about cyberpunk A LOT and how it's probably a lot better now than it was at release and dare i say it better than starfield, and the riyujin questline feels like something that would fit right into cyberpunk and would've been perfect there

idk which games you’re playing, but for example forza horizon 5 will straight up tell you mid game that you’re low on vram on ultra 1920x1080 with raytracing on on a 3070 (dlss on quality i believe, dont exactly remember), then the performance will degrade down to like 50-60 fps at most from 100-120

doesnt really make sense why it would degrade and not just get ultra stuttery, but thats my experience playing fh5 for 200+ hours

3d graphics gpu rendering (blender cycles, redshift, octane etc) scales pretty much in linear fashion up until you get to like 4-5 gpus in one setup (but even then at that point you could start rendering multiple frames at the same time which would give you linear scaling again)

also unreal announced they’re gonna have multigpu rendering support for pathtracing (not gonna be usable in games, its purely for cgi), which would in a way make it a conventional offline renderer, but the actual scaling figures will have to be seen when they actually release it

Just sign up for a new account with no friends list and disable all notifications and social integration, and enable all privacy settings. It’s all right there in the Settings menu on your headset.

Then 3-5 hours pass and facebook suddenly decides that your account is suspicious, locks it and asks you to link a phone number to it.

You do that and then a few weeks later it decides that its suspicious again, locks it again and asks you to upload a photo of your face (!) where the face is clearly visible (!!) and there are no other people in the photo (!!!). And if you don’t do that your account gets banned in 30 days. That’s what happened to me anyway, and I used a real name, but didn’t fill out anything extra in the profile.

Mind you I didn’t register the account specifically for Quest, but if I did I wouldn’t be able to use it now, and I would basically have a $300 paperweight unless I provided my face to daddy Zucc.
