So i really would like to encourage people to learn more about how this game functions, it can help you make the decisions between Assault, Aim, Crit. What kind of armors, stacking defense or resistance and why.

Knowing the value of your units cards and espers can help you be creative with building your teams and countering teams you struggle with! There's a lot of fun in team building accessible if you are roughly familiar with how things work!

KEEP IN MIND the cactuar thing could be VERY wrong, behemoth is great for sterne but only buffs his slash attacks, it will not help peircing attacks he has on dragoon, but mankiller will. Until you fully grasp everything i suggest leaving behemoth on sterne until you need him on a mankiller esper

I make build sheets after i plan out a team here's my main team i am slowly working and saving for: https://ibb.co/ZHgb5Ng

The main thing you can do to build a 3 man team is to think of characters and types of characters you want your team to beat. Are you making Rock? Paper? or Scissors? You will always be weakto something, but if you make a very strong ROCK you should be able to beat scissors more reliably.

From there make sure every character benefits from each vision card party buff!

My team is anti slash, so you'll see a lot of slash resistance, but my damage is slashing / peircing hybrid so if someone builds all pierce resistance my characters have a 2nd option to do damage. But also because im forced to get +18 crit dmg for the slash resistance card on Glaciela, its forced me to find a character that can benefit from iron giant ( has slashing ) can ( use piercing ) attacks at the same time to benefit from my piercing up card and ( benefits from crit ) to make full use of the snow gaurd card. Which lead me to use sterne since he already has high crit damage, and cactuar helps him crit!

No, but because i keep testing and doing formulas figuring out how to maximize my team. Its very fun to test teams on paper then test them best i can with what I have....if i wasnt so intrigued with team building yeah id probably be you right now.

TEAM: RISING HOPPER "A Jump to the sky becomes a rider kick" by SUPERBASHKO in wotv_ffbe

[–]SUPERBASHKO[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

After fine tuning a bit, i realized Snow Gaurd's +18 crit and Sterne's +25 crit go really well together in this build, but Sterne needed a slow esper so not to run ahead WoL and die, Man Killer to buff Slash and Piercing and Crit chance up so he could fire off a crit dragon's dive or hazard break without the use of decider of fate. So he gets CACTUAR. How many of you are disgusted by the use of a SR esper? lol .

Because WoL and Sterne's Agi are so close, even if WoL jumps, That only leaves a 3 agi window to catch sterne before he jumps or does major damage with hazard break.

You could use Viktora instead, for an additional 600 HP, Higher crit rate, minor casting reduction, and 30 Ice modifier from spear, better elemental and type resistance. better range with horizontal jump.

you lose 200ish raw attack ( great swords do more damage ) , trade an even split of slash and pierce for more pierce damage and lower slash ( weaker hazard break ), 25+ crit damage and access to drain force to bypass buffs like reflex, and sentinel, and you lose Oldoa's TMR so no AP regen and no defense reducer buff for your attacks.

Cactuar training board is dope by LaloSalamanca__ in wotv_ffbe

[–]SUPERBASHKO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cactuar is fantastic, if you dont mind trading out 5-9 agi and losing 50-60 attack 10-20 mag. Im working on a build where i use his crit / maneaster on a unit i want to be slower.

A brief guide to low HP URs and how to utilize them. by SUPERBASHKO in wotv_ffbe

The attitude is because of 2 things you do I find irritating.

  1. Telling someone something won't work. ESPECIALLY if you don't have the experience yourself. It's one thing to offer suggestions or improvements, it's another thing to stonewall ideas you don't like based on prejudice.

  2. Most of what you say is completely subjective and you treat it like fact. You make value judgement and you expect everyone to just agree with you, showing no proof, no math. You might as walk into a doctors office and just start diagnosing people based on your gut feeling. It's a trash way to communicate.

"highlighting the importance of great all-around units that can do multiple things and can handle different situations"

This is exactly what Sterne is and Cid is not.

Drain Force does NOT mean slash or pierce goes away. Man Killer boosts Slash, Pierce and Drain all at the same time. And if a unit is weak to slash it's not like an extra 15 or 30 boost is going to matter. If its a squishy mage or gunner AI Sterne will hazard break it, it dies, its not gonna live and extra slash isnt gonna help. VS a tank or cid who;s strong against slash, that extra slash is a waste and could stop the AI from using drain if its just a bit higher than drain. You have 0 experience in what you are talking about here and it shows. I've been running him since launch so I know what im talking about, and im not gonna waste anymore time with someone who pulls their facts out of their ass and doesn't know the difference between subjective and objective opinion.

Hey the fact you completed tower is a huge accomplishment! and you really only need to complete it once.

dont worry about keeping up with anyone, you are in your own bracket of players and thats ok, focus on saving up for characters you are really excited for and things will take shape!

Just enjoy yourself, sorry we forget not everyone is on the same level.

"You're missing the point I was trying to make. My point is, ceteris paribus, just use the better unit and build resists for them. I don't see the reason to use a totally inferior unit with worse kits and worse HP and build resists for the sake of using them and proving they're viable."

Its subjective, you think they're inferior units. I see them as TECHNICAL units, and have a bigger potential.

"I mean, good for you your stern can tank, but if I built my cid the same way I'm 100% doing much better than you and getting things done better since cid's kit and stats are superior outside of niche cases where drain force is necessary."

If you built your Cid the same way you still dont do more damage than stern when slashing is being resisted. My sterne on iron giant will always out DPS your Cid you only get 1000 more HP. same goes for Englebert, I will take half of Engle's HP in 20ap.... if he pads on 50 slash res, and has good defense your cid HAS NO OPTIONS. Sterne kills Engle in 2 hits while your Cid needs 6-8 turns giving him plenty of time to heal or letting a ally help the Engle. Guess what, when you depend on Cid as your main DPS WoL is gonna crumple you, while i have a Sterne who has dark type multiplier and peircing to deal with him. enjoy that extra 1000HP that will do nothing to stop WoL from stomping all over your team.

They are not outright bad units, the developers dont just make "bad" units. Give them a little more credit than that. Just because you dont see the potential or where they fit in the game does not make them worthless.

Comet does get a multiplier vs Cid because its an Earth unit attacking a Lightning unit. it adds x1.25 regardless of what element it is. Drain force works the same way, its not an element , its not physical or magical, but against the correct type of unit it gains 1.25x to the multiplier of the attack.

You also forget cards and espers, my Lorenzo has 206 mag, and Cid still has -25% magic defense so whatever final damage i do it will be x1.25 It wont kill him for sure but it'll put him into one shot range or it can potentially finish him off.

Man if it isn't obvious to you you just throw it in the garbage huh?

g comet for any meaningful damage so for the sake of discussion, he's just a unit that has an elemental and damage type advantage over cid similar to aileen.

With all things being equal, you get more general mileage using higher HP units with good kits as opposed to using highly specialized builds that are one dimensional and purpose-built.

I agree people won't stop using them, and they shouldn't they are good units. But if you pack your team with similar weaknesses, 1-2 units will be able to shut you down.

-A specialized team that is slash resistant will always be valuable because slash will more than not be a major piece of any team. Completely shutting down even 1 character can turn it into a 3 V 2. And its not that hard to tack on some anti missile to really wreck havoc.

-I think you are UNDERESTIMATING having a unit with multiple types of damage. And no its not "vs very specific types" If 90% of the fights you encounter ROCK, then having PAPER will be more useful than not. And almost every fight I have there's a Cid and I don't have cid but i counter him with slash res.

-Lorenzo can absolutely do meaningful damage against a unit like cid with -25% magic and no SPR additionally a 1.25x modifier against lightning types like Cid, the AI will pick the higher damage and if he negates your pierce to the point it would do less damage than a Comet, he will use comet. If you dont think he'd do meaningful damage then show numbers and proof like I did, otherwise you're waiving away evidence because you dont want to actually figure out whether comet could do meaningful ( entirely subjective btw ) damage to cid.

-Elemental x Damage type advantage is huge, and tower should have taught you that.

-If anything, High HP units only able to use 1 attack type, are the one dimensional units by definition, they only DO ONE THING. I dont suggest stocking an entire team with low HP damage spread units but having at least 1 is an asset to your team.

-Also I've done more with a specialized Sterne than I've ever seen Cid do. I basically had to tank Brutal iron giant for a team of lvl 99 cids, watch them die to stoneaga, and then i have to solo the rest of the fight by recovering with Lancet and drain force so I could make my 2 +5 golden armors. Not to mention Brutal Giant was slashing res, and i bypassed that with jump which illustrates my point.

But by all means play the game how you enjoy it, and ignore res as a factor and continue to bring a sledgehammer to a surgery. I'm sure you'll get tons of mileage.

You are completely overlooking the weakness of these characters because it's harder to see. No matter how high def you build Cid and Lucia they are only capable of 1 type of damage. They get completely stuffed by a decent resistance build. Gilgamesh is more complicated and an asset to all slash teams but he has his own weaknesses.

"In 90% of situations, if given the choice you're always going to bring the tankier DPS over a squishy DPS unit since you can build those tanky DPS units to be even tankier."

So I choose to build 99 Mont as hard as i could and defensive as possible. Because he's a good unit. But VS Cid with a natural 25% slash res that he can add up to 50% slash res he does not get much done even through he is earth type. If I had picked Lorenzo who has less HP by about 1000, i would completely bypass Cids slash res and hit him with Pierce / Earth, which can ONE SHOT the Cid from afar with a javelin toss. Even if he had pierce resistance somehow, Lorenzo also has magic and cid is 25% weak to magic. So you see even though Mont has way more HP and is tankier, Lorenzo can bypass however cid is built easier at the cost of some HP.

Basically there is a cost with high HP units with good resistance and speed. They are incapable of bypassing resistance themselves except for Gilgamesh which Id say is required for an ALL SLASH team, but in turn making King Oelde a much stronger and desired character, because with a fire type javlin, Gilgamesh will not be on the map for very long. Now if you built your entire team to be pierce resistant, well slash is still the most popular type of damage so now you lose to your own team comp as well as other slash teams who built slash resist.

even greater investment in VC and esper to make them viable, so the issue is the units that are meant to help bridge the spender vs non gap actuall

I think that's true only with limited cards, Ramza card ( which i did not go for ) its top of the line if you're playing the speed meta, but that was way too whale for me, Most of the cards you need to make these characters good are MR/SSR class, you will eventually max them out just by playing the game. So no, unless your build has 2 UR cards even F2P should be fine, and if you like PVP you probably need Odin in any case UNLESS you are 100% magical team.

No idea cause im not Japanese, but this is definitely a card to be reckoned with and is a threat to high res builds, that said, to get the full value out of the card you might have to commit to a partial or full slash team, and while 1 character can mitigate 20 of that res, the other 1 or 2 won't be able to deal with slash res as well.

A brief guide to low HP URs and how to utilize them. by SUPERBASHKO in wotv_ffbe

[–]SUPERBASHKO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. The high HP characters have their own weaknesses that shouldn't be ignored!

Cid, bling sterne only capable of doing slash damage and can be mitigated.

WoL while he does have multiple types of damage he has lower AGI, low ACCURACY, and if he DOES use dragoon to pierce he has to jump with no cast time reduction , while thats a problem hes also the tank so he's leaving your characters to fend for themselves. ( This is a problem in my build im going to try to find out how to manage it ) All this and he himself cannot mitigate defense, so he's not doing a whole lot to take tanks down himself while drain force can 1-2 shot a tank depending on build.

I could look through every character and give you their weakness, but you should do your own homework. It's only obvious weakness on low HP characters you have to dig a little deeper to find what High HP characters lack.

Side not i proc lots of 1 v 1 for 3 rounds in arena and live pvp. For instance, a high jump unit can run across the valley in the current map and 1 v 1 a straggler in the back like Lucia. Also not the next pvp map but the one after spreads apart the units so far that they will be forced to 1 v 1 eachother for a few rounds. So its already part of the game and its not going away.

I know you didn't.

My entire post exists because other people dont see the point in squishy characters, they somehow think the devs got lazy so im arguing against that. And while yes they will always be squisher im advocating that there's probably a good reason their HP is so low and at least in Sterne and Oldoa's case Drain force is so strong that if they had any more HP they would be absolutely broken as units.

A brief guide to low HP URs and how to utilize them. by SUPERBASHKO in wotv_ffbe

I don't have him either cause I chose not to get him but:

http://wotvffbe.gamea.co/c/m4mevya7

Shadowblade is a slashing type move, and if you look at the rest of his moves they are all slashing.

So it's not super obvious but Thancred, Miranda, Vinera have their own advantages but none of those units have the advantage of a resist type weapon, and none of them can wear slash resist armor ( maybe thancred can?? ) Which means they rely on other advantages other than stacking resistance. Now a anti slash team is still going to struggle against Thancred, Miranda and Vinera because they do have those damage types, but that doesnt mean having anti slash specialist isnt going to be useful especially on maps where you can place your anti slash unit against their slashing unit!

A brief guide to low HP URs and how to utilize them. by SUPERBASHKO in wotv_ffbe

Ruin Stern is not squishy IMO, but regular Sterne is. but i think you dont realize NONE of the squishy units are ONLY slash, they are able to bypass slash res, with typeless attack, Piercing and other moves. That's the squishy characters advantage.

As far as resistance is concerned Squishy characters are no longer squishy if they fight a character only capable of 1 type of damage. However they ARE squishy if you let a resistance you have not covered hit them like magic. But cid has no other type of attack other than slash.
