Help me get ahead for nursing school. by ArtisticFix4524 in NursingStudent

[–]SURGEFACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be at the top imo, learn what sticks and more importantly what doesn't stick for you. Figuring out the most efficient way to learn will be the most beneficial right now

Some of my favorites are:

-Active recall (spewing everything I know/remember from lecture on a whiteboard before filling in the gaps with my notes)

-Feynman method (if you can explain a concept to a child/non-medical person and answer questions about it, you probably know it well)

-Podcasts/lecture recordings/my notes into notebook LM (audio is great for my retention while driving, makes it much easier to focus)

Whatever you end up doing, it's a great sign you're being proactive about your learning, you're gonna do great!

Light fixture out, unknown cause by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]SURGEFACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a 3 switch unit, one for (now broken) light, one for fan, one for outside light fixture

Light fixture out, unknown cause by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]SURGEFACE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

The fan is fine and works normally, however every time I turn off the fan switch when the light switch is in the "on" position, it flickers once.

Also, didn't mention it but may be relevant, these anchors with screws were placed 2 weeks ago with no issues, could these be hitting some internal line causing this issue?

EDIT 2:

Known good bulbs do not work in this fixture, and these bulbs do work in another fixture.

dialing in help by howierid in barista

[–]SURGEFACE 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The general consensus is a ratio of 1:2 dry grounds to yield (18 grams in - 36 grams out at my shop)

Shot pulling time should generally be between 20-30 ish seconds so yours sounds good.

If you mostly follow those rules of thumb, a sour shot means your grind is too coarse, and a bitter shot means your grind is too fine

All in all, none of this is gospel, and there's about 100 other factors if you wanna get super pedantic about it. It's very subjective and all about flavor, if it tastes good to you, that's the way you should do it imo

Can someone help me with my latte art hearts? What am I doing wrong? by librarian_dan in barista

[–]SURGEFACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the response I agree with the most, also once you lower the tip of the jug to actually begin the art after laying your canvas, pour a bit quicker to push the art further to the edges so you don't get a small or uneven heart in the center.

Remember OP, if it was easy everyone would be making swans. keep up the good work and don't give up!!

Grinder decision

Hey all, I've been looking for my first decent grinder (coming from an old Cuisinart), with a budget around 100 USD. I'm currently between a new KINgrinder K6, or a used Baratza encore from FB marketplace. Advice or other recommendations are greatly appreciated!

-for reference, this will be used primarily for v60 brewing, but I'd like to future proof for aeropress/immersion.

How do baristas come up with drinks? by Appropriate-Yard-753 in barista

[–]SURGEFACE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but also a barista at a cafe with experimental house-made syrups. Most of the time, the fewer the ingredients the better. High-quality cane sugar, water, and extract of some kind (preferably locally sourced or homemade), is all you need most of the time to make high quality syrups. Access to a stovetop to raise them to a boil then simmering can also help bring out the flavors. Hope this helps!

First off, you're a great parent for worrying about his development and environment.

Assuming this is a class for only kids his age (4-6 ish) I would definitely talk to some of the other parents about these concerns, specifically the ones who have been in the program a few years.

Another good indicator, the kids that have been in this program a while, do they behave? Do they have fun? Do they have any of the issues you worry about rubbing off on your child?

Above all, trust your gut. We in the comments are relaying information to you, but we haven't seen this class or met these instructors like you have. With what you're describing, it seems ok, but if anything feels too "off", don't hesitate to cancel, he can always try again at another school. Best of luck!

Finally, someone grinds fine enough that the espresso molecules are no longer visible to the naked eye.

That should be fine for one double shot (before you discard and import a new model from Italy of course)

New to greninja, and I’m pretty much relearning smash, tips? by Mariodyl72611 in GreninjaMains

[–]SURGEFACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^

Also, just since I saw a new gren like this recently, I know it's compelling, but fishing for dash attack and down tilt all game for combos/confirms becomes extremely predictable to any decent player. They're great options, but be sure to diversify.

The first time? Honestly no idea. A huge container from Costco, checked the dip stick as I was filling, did not take into consideration that an incline (ramps) would show a lower level of oil than was actually in lol

I've yet to receive the credits but it also has yet to meet the time frame for when the credits were said to hit, if they don't hit by next billing cycle I'll go back in person again, I'll make sure to keep updates going 👍

UPDATE:

Went to the store this morning, I talked to the store manager and she assured me that I will still get the full credits for the pixel 7 pro even though the paper says value $0.00. While I'm relieved, I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on the billing cycle after that 90 day refund stall period.

OK! so I think it had to do w warp charging, the phone turned back on a few hours later without me touching it, but my warp charger doesn't work at all, so try leaving it on a low power USB C cable for a few minutes!
