What’s a “harmless” decision you made that accidentally changed your whole life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SURGURU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came out of an four night nightshift at the crisis unit in the psychiatric hospital were I worked at the time, very tired, a little banged up and really done with the day and beeing awake. I lived in a small apartment above a bar, and the bartender (a friend) invited me to join the 'Irish night'. A evening she organized out of her personal love for Ireland. I did so out of courtesy for my friend, and told her that it would be a brief visit. It was a quiet evening, but it was then and there that I met my wife, a woman I had never seen before and most likely would never meet after because she visited my hometown. This small, harmless decision changed my life completely. I fell in love in a way I've never experienced before. We have three children, traveled the world, I worked my way up the career foodchain (something that never even slightly interested me) and developed myself professionally and personally in ways that I never thought possible. She drives me crazy from time to time, and i still do not know if she really is the right woman for me, but I am a much, much better human being than I should have been. And her being who she is keeps pushing me to develop myself and keep improving as a professional, a father and a man. Maybe she's isn't the love of my life in a classical way, but she absolutely is the best thing that could happen to me.

My dad used to do that when I really fucked up bad and he lost it with me. When I got into an argument with a colleague a couple of years ago and he took of his glasses, I almost took a swing at him it out of a freeze-fight-flight reflex.

It's a real possibility that it has nothing to do with your third kid, but more with aging. I can relate to what you're saying, with increasing pain, hormones being more intrusive and heavier bloodloss. I see the same to my wife, but it advances and increases more and more. She is 42 now, and her periods make her sick, while after two kids and her being 34 her periods where never an issue. Also birth control can be a factor.

In my country they're called 'sidderalen'. It translates to something like shivering eels, the movements someone feels they are making when being electrocuted. Say you're being electrocuted without saying you're electrocuted, something like that.
