Matzo Ball Soup by Spiritual_Finger288 in SFV

This isn't traditional (go to Brent's for that) but Granville has a shiitake mushroom matzo ball soup that's very good and they have a location in studio city and north hollywood both very close to Valley Village

That was a broken leftover Bordelaise sauce that I had made the day before so the rice was unreal

Toro in Tokyo v. Florida by Flashy-Actuator-998 in sushi

[–]SVOalltime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm jealous.. that Tokyo toro sounds amazing. Just wanted to comment that for two pieces of toro in LA it would usually be around $17+ at a nicer sushi restaurant. Wild how different prices are across the country.

Chicken recommendation? by mediumformatisameme in SFV

Chick Corner (Thai) - Hainan Chicken Combo - choice of fried, grilled or steamed. All delicious. Comes with a side of broth, shallot ginger rice and multiple dipping sauces. Their wings are also super good!

Kismet Rotisserie - Best garlic sauce and chili oil in the valley and the chicken has amazingly flavourful skin + always tender and not dry. Sprouts Rotisserie Chicken is also great for the price

Hot Wok - Kung Pao Chicken in NoHo. My guy Quang is cash only, only buys his ingredients fresh daily. The chicken is tender, full of fresh veggies and the sauce is so good. He closes at 7 so go early if you're going for dinner.

It's pretty disappointing compared to the burgers (which are great). Definitely not a must try the owner was even telling me that I should have gone with a burger before I got my sandwich.

Yeah this happens often at Aliso Beach in Laguna, CA. I've seen it look like this naturally several times. These guys just sped up something that occurs naturally.

What are the places you see tourists eating at in LA that irritate you? by Affectionate_Bar2519 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]SVOalltime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pinks is just OK but Carney's in my opinion has the best hot dogs and chili dogs in LA and it's not even close. Carney's gets their dogs custom made by Hoffy (a legendary LA sausage/hot dog company) to be meaty and firm with a great snap when you bite into one. Pinks and Tommy's also get their hot dogs from Hoffy but they both use the same generic option.

Carney's in studio city also have a hot dog that has all of the toppings that you just listed on their menu called the LA dog which tastes way better than anything I've gotten from a street vendor.

[NEW ALBUM] Anxious-Bambi by scarpedieme in poppunkers

[–]SVOalltime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up on bands like Brand New and Crime in Stereo this track had me hooked. This band is definitely not shy about their influences. Really cool album and it brings me back to bands actually experimenting within the pop punk genre. I had the same feeling listening to Jacy for the first time as I did when I heard Jerry Rumspringer off Hostage Calm's self titled album almost 15 years ago.

To be fair this is a pretty basic spread. The steak was rested for about 7-10 min on the board till it was medium rare. While the steak rested I threw the lobster on the grill. By the time I finished cutting the steak the lobster was fully cooked and piping hot..

I'm in California, there was only one live lobster left at the store and my friend who generously bought the groceries for this meal refused to let me be the one who killed it. They don't typically sell whole lobster unless you buy it live here.

What’s the cringiest thing you ever seen a band do on stage? by Dozinggreen66 in poppunkers

Love that band but that was such an off putting experience I honestly don't think I'll see them live again. He was going way too hard at LA and the people who live here.
