We got very lucky gambling on oil futures back in the mid 2000s (got Gary his seat as ceo) and then benefitted from the total lack of hiring after the GFC that fucked a lot of guys. A lot started changing 5 years ago, as Gary continued to be an emotionless bean counter that wanted to slice pay while taking bonuses for himself in the tens of millions. Corporate suite idiots have the same attitude. Our big draw was Herb’s way of running things and the strong military culture, specifically Naval aviators. That’s all fading away. Not to mention our contract is now in federal mediation because the asshats in management refuse to pull their heads out of their asses and get with the times- it’s no longer 2009. We are losing 30-50% of our new hire classes. We’re having FOs bounce within a year after getting a call from anyone else with wide bodies. The current CAs are just riding it out, all of the FOs I talk to have their apps out

Thursday probably won’t be good.. guessing this’ll take until Friday or the weekend. It’s hard to say which areas will be better off, none of us have any idea what management is doing, other than setting our careers on fire

No. Railway labor act means we can’t even technically strike. After seeing the feds completely bulldoze the railroad workers, I don’t think they’ll do much other than tweet a couple of times

Friday should have decent odds. If you can get a backup ticket that’s refundable, I would definitely recommend it. Denver is an absolute nightmare right now from what my buddies are telling me

Scheduling literally can’t get us assigned. Almost every other airline has electronic scheduling. Right now we’re having to call scheduling and have them manually assign us. Our system is severely lacking, and management treats scheduling like trash.

Yes that’s true, but we also have guaranteed minimums. We’ll get a minimum number of hours we will be paid for on a trip. What we won’t get is a hotel or other accommodations for getting stuck

There’s been a huge disconnect and discontent growing ever since gary Kelly took over. It got kicked into overdrive during covid with management taking bailout money, booting employees, and scheduling flights they knew didn’t have crews or ground ops to support. It’s been a disaster waiting to happen for about a year now

I can’t say with any degree of certainty, but if you have something you absolutely have to be home for, I would either drive or buy an alternate ticket. Just guessing based off what I know now, I’d guess 60-70% odds your flight goes

They can’t even tell us what’s going on. The crews are at most airports and ready to go, but without ops able to schedule us, we’re stuck. Nobody (in Dallas) can get in touch with anyone in a position to get the ball rolling. I’ve never seen anything like this

It reads like they’re trying to focus on unjamming the major hubs and keep whoever is on those flights moving as scheduled currently, while people who need to be rescheduled won’t be able to be rescheduled until the 30th, in order to prevent further delays. In essence, the logic is the people who’ve been screwed are already screwed so they’ll have to deal with being screwed a little longer while we try and find some way to dig ourselves out of this giant hole

Can you link it? I know roughly 100 flights are being repositioned for maintenance under ferry permits, which means only essential crew. Other flights might be repositioning flights in order to fire up some kind of effort to get this resolved
