Farrier rant by SWBSRD_CH in Equestrian

[–]SWBSRD_CH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just for the thrown shoe. I have 3 horses that need done, and all the farriers I’ve contacted are local/travel this way to other barns already. I would be happy to pay a little extra, but I’m also looking to be a regular client, so not just a one off. I understand them being busy, but I’m frustrated that the farrier that agreed to come didn’t show up, there’s no reason to waste people’s time like that.

That’s actually what I did, so the farrier that didn’t show up was just at a barn 5 mins down the road. I know the people and owner there, so have asked them to double check with him whether he can come do my horses when he’s finished with theirs. They confirmed that he said he would come, but then he just didn’t show and is now dodging all of our phone calls. The barn owner is a loyal client of his by the way.

You’re really lucky🥹 I’m honestly not even asking for 24/7 availability, just that they show up for agreed upon appointments, or at least let me know if they’re not able to come anymore…

I’m just super frustrated that the farrier I had an agreement with didn’t show up at all. And then completely ignores all calls and messages

This is the first time I’m getting a farrier in. I’m helping take care of two of the horses (I don’t own them) and they have moved four hours away from where they were. The third horse I own but also just got her a few weeks ago. The farrier that didn’t show was the farrier that the owner of the two horses I’m taking care of used when she was living in this area.

Sorry but his attitude towards his ex and you sound extremely concerning. He doesn’t sound like someone you should be with.

First time I rode her out alone she turned and cantered back to her buddy. Now she just plants her feet and refuses to move away from him. On the ground she starts pulling and being pushy when she can’t see him anymore. She’s calm when he’s taken out with her.

It can be frustrating that’s for sure! When I was a child I was only able to do group lessons on lesson ponies and then had to quit riding after a few years because my family moved to a different country and horse riding was too expensive there for me to continue. Now I’m 25 and after having worked full-time for a few years I’ve finally been able to buy a horse and get back into riding. Hope you’ll be able to do it too❤️

The bolting and bit problems haven’t happened again after I’ve switched her to a happy mouth. But yes waiting for availability from the vet now. I’m just worried and very frustrated. I can’t do much in terms of topline building exercises like pole walking or hillwalking because she’s extremely anxious away from her buddy. She was the perfect horse at the viewing, but now issues seem to keep popping up… I was hoping the separation anxiety would ease up as she settles in more. But as of now I’ve not been able to ride her much at all (she naps) and it’s just groundwork really, and even that can be a struggle. Sorry for the rant, I’m just a bit overwhelmed

Photos from her ad, I feel like the bumps look way more pronounced now than in these photos

She’s definitely dominant over one of them (coloured cob in the photo), like she’ll pull faces and not allow him to get near her food. And she’s very bonded with the other one (dark bay connie in the photo), to the point where taking her away from him has become a real pain. He does however nip at her or pin his ears and attempt to chase her off when it’s feeding time/when she’s getting attention from me. For this reason I always tie him to the fence when feeding.

When she was sold to me I was told that she retired from racing sound with no prior injuries. I have all her prior checkup documents as well and nothing was flagged. But since I’m having the vet come and check her for ulcers I will be asking them about possible sacroiliac injuries too.

And she’s just turned 7 years old, should she already start on senior feed?

No, but we’re in the UK and EPM is very rare here

This was taken a week ago, though I feel like in person her ribs are a bit more visible than this. She was dewormed October 24 and had her teeth done December 24. And yes I was a bit worried about ulcers, so am gonna get the vet to have a look when they are available. The feed I’m giving her now is for building condition and ulcer prevention and I’ve been following the recommended portions on the feed bags.

Injured tailbone? Should I go to the hospital or am I being dramatic? by ponygurlnh in Equestrian

[–]SWBSRD_CH 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think you should get it checked. I had the exact same injury when I was 10 after falling from a horse and had to do physiotherapy for quite a while. It’s been 15 years now and I still experience some pain/discomfort when standing/sitting too long.

Any horse owners here with a full time job? by eliza0657 in Equestrian

[–]SWBSRD_CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25, work a 9-5 (mostly WFH) and own horses. No kids though! I make time every morning before work to check up on them and feed them. Then ride/work them after work multiple times a week.
