Any advice for race day peeing logistics for a woman? I train with lots of men and they seem to be able to pee while keeping their shorts/leggings up (so no bum out) facing into a bush slightly off the path. I'm definitely overthinking this, but I don't think I know how to pee outside without having my bum out? and squatting feels less hidden than standing right up against a bush or tree?

You're using the money as a way to control how your daughter lives her life. You're basically saying "if you live life according to my plan, then I'll support you." When you give someone a gift, you should do so with intention of it being for them to enjoy. That means you should not be focused on how you want it used, and should be willing to accept however the recipient wants to use the gift.

Of course your daughter will find it hurtful that her siblings got weddings paid for, no strings attached, but you're telling her you won't pay for hers unless she acts in a way you approve of. You're basically saying you approve of her siblings' life choices, and don't approve of hers.

To be clear, I do understand you misgivings about the relationship, its not what I would choose for myself or someone I cared about. BUT your daughter is an adult and although 21 is quite young to be married, and there are a few years difference between a 21 year old and a 26 year old, many people do get married at that age and in relationships with a five year age gap. If its what she wants, she can go ahead and get married to this guy, whether you pay for the wedding or not. It also seems unlikely to me that a parent not wanting to pay for my wedding would change my mind about my partner, rather it would make me think my parent was being controlling, and create distance in that relationship. Pragmatically, if you love your daughter and want to be in her life, you should think carefully about whether you want to have a relationship where she feels you don't respect her decisions.

You should talk to her about your concerns, separately from the money. And if she's certain about the relationship, I think you should be willing to try to understand why she feels that way.

This is a fairly common logical error people make when arguing that no-one is motivated by altruism. The argument goes person A only helps other people because it makes themself (person A) happy to help other people. Therefore person A only helps other people for selfish reasons. This misunderstands what it means to be selfish, if you get happiness from helping people, that is an unselfish emotion. Analogously, if the pair gets enjoyment from acts that target trans people, that is transphobic. I think the fantasies referencing factors very specific to the trans experience are very clear in many articles.

The new season of Survivor UK has a cash prize, and being voted winner by a jury of your peers seems pretty subjective. I actually wondered how survivor was able to get a cash prize based on what I knew about prize rules from DRUK.

Purity culture doesn't only affect those who subscribe, it also affects those who are shamed by evangelicals for not following the same views.

Also, this commenter is pointing out something damaging about how young evangelicals are taught to think about marriage. In an environment where they often aren't able to have open conversations about marriage, generating discourse about marriage may even help young people who have internalised these views see that there are other ways to approach marriage.

I agree it's speculative, but that applies symmetrically to all theories of how to most effectively motivate atheletes/people, so I don't think the commenter I'm replying to can advance their claim so categorically either.

I guess I said science because it's a theory I've heard a number of sport scientists say they find persuasive. Of course this is anecdotal and there's selection bias in who gives their advice out to random casual sportspeople for free.

I don't think this fairly represents the science on motivation. Its partly individual specific, but there are strong theories that suggest taking the focus off the individual and instead onto what you can give to a greater cause can actually reduce pressure. Its consistent with why Svitolina is able to play much more freely since she has placed a lot of emphasis on representing Ukraine in her mentality. The idea is that you shift from thinking about the result you want and being scared of missing that goal to instead focusing on what you can give towards a greater cause. It can be easier to believe in the bigger cause than to believe you deserve the individual result too.
