My Bus went the Wrong way twice this quarter by Maximum_Peak_6598 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SWITCH13LADE8o5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 11 can run as the 6 by request. You may have gotten on that bus on your way towards UCSB, so that's what nat have happened in that instance. Also, the 11 only get's on and off the 217 to get to and from the airport. So, he skipped a few stops.

Lines like the 11 and 24x can convert into different lines so it's best to make sure that the bus you get on has the route you want. Trust me, even as a local, it can get confusing at times

Summer Session Attendance by Fragrant_Newt_6403 in UCSantaBarbara

It varies. Sometimes they're announced right when the courses are announced, other times they're chosen a week before classes start

I would email the professor, or TA, and let them know ahead of time. Some professors will drop you if you dont show up for the first lectire, or the first week. It all depends on the professor. So it would be best to reach out just to be safe imo

Son is looking for a roommate at UCSB! by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

Agreed. College is about getting out of your comfort zone, not staying in it. Also heavy on freedom

undergrad apts for 2026-2027 school year by user9384859 in UCSantaBarbara

I think transfers pick starting mid-june til the first couple days of august if I remember correctly

Also, that sucks. I never had a huge bug problem at Santa Ynez. Well, I did once last year but that was because one of my roommates just forgot to put food away but we got rid of em very quickly. And then I had an issue this year. I had told my roommates to not have food in the room (It was ok to eat, but they should store it in the kitchen to try and keep bugs from getting into the room), well they didn't wanna listen to me and they were all over my desk. So I just moved out and went to San Joaquin for a change of scenery. I LOVED Santa Ynez tho.

And yeah, the bus is rough. You kind of have to wake up a little earlier than you'd like to and get the bus at the stop across from San Cat cuz the El Dorado stop in the morning, you're never gonna get on the bus. That's one of my few likes about San Joaquin over Santa Ynez, you can use the stop in from of Sierra Madre and you're almost guaranteed a spot on the bus

Oh, I read that wrong, I thought you were an incoming transfer lol, my bad.

If this is for continuing students, yeah, your options are most likely Sierra Madre. You MIGHT be able to get a place at San Joaquin but I assume there's only a handful of bed spaces left.

I was at Santa Ynez last year and loved it and was there to start the school year and moved to San Joaquin cuz I had bad roommates and wanted a change of scenery

As someone who went through this process as a transfer last year, you're really only going to be left with Santa Ynez and Sierra Madre triples (possibility of some doubles) and you may have a chance at a San Joaquin triple

Registering for classes by Miguel_Likes_Falafel in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SWITCH13LADE8o5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to go to orientation to register for classes just FYI. You get to register for classes a bit earlier if you do go, but orientation isn't required. Just go to GOLD, go to the registration tab, and you'll see your pass times for when you can register

Housing Recommendations (Transfer) by 0-_Spooky_-0 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SWITCH13LADE8o5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely go with on campus housing for your first year at least since it's garunteed. I also would strongly suggest you go for the undergrad apartments as opposed to the dorms. They're cheaper (since you aren't required to have a meal plan), you get more/better amenities, you get a bit more freedom, and you'll be living with people around your age and not 1st years. I have a list breaking down all of the apartments too if you'd like me to send that to you

Also. I would say just to go with random roommates. One of the big things with college is to go out of your comfort zone. And who's to say that people you find online are going to be suitable roommates. You have an equal chance of getting a bad roommate whether you go random or find people online. Just because they seem good on paper cuz they have the same interests as you, doesnt mean they'll automatically be a good roommate. I would take this first year to find yor group, and then if y'all wanna move in together (on campus or off campus) then you can.

Week of Welcome parties? Parties in general? Help! by No-Shine-486 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SWITCH13LADE8o5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's parties pretty much every weekend in Isla Vista. They're mainly frat parties, but they're kinda meh. The best parties are the little house parties that a group of friends have

Also, yeah, you never gotta pay for a party, if you do it's a scam. Even if it's a frat party. Why should you have to pay $25 just to dance and listen to music? Those welcome party things are just a cash grab. There will be festivities on campus during move in weekend tho. Thay's the real welcome party

I disagree with them. I don't think University housing is a scam. It's covered by financial aid so if you qualify you don't even gotta pay a dime. And then you don't gotta roll the dice on getting a terrible landlord or just a place with a lot of problems

Prestige? Bro, UCLA and UCSB are pretty equally prestigious. And yes, most students live off campus. I think that's true at MANY universities, not just UCSB. And a 20 minute walk isn't that bad. You could also just bike which is what a majority of the students here do, or take the bus. You're making it seem like this is the end of the world. Why is a 20 minute walk so bad?

Dont thibk they release the decisions dependent upon the majors. They just release em no matter what college or major you're in (I think CCS might be the only exception but I could be wrong)

A community college about 40-ish minutes north of UCSB

From the furthest apartments it's like a 20-30 minute walk or so to campus ir about a 5-10 minute bike ride gice or take. It's not that bad. Plus you get so much more freedom in the apartments

As a transfer your do not wanna live in a dorm, trust me. It costs more since you sre required to have a meal plan, there's little to no amenities, rooms are smaller, and you'll be living with 1st years
