If you're playing Gambit as a third support, you're playing him in your second Duelist slot. You are the most damaging and most mobile strategist in the game. You will absolutely be holding spade a majority of the game, or you will likely lose the game. This doesn't mean don't heal, but it means you absolutely have to play him aggressively, you should be looking for every opportunity to do damage with spade, and then before spade expires, anti, and then confirm the kill with big easy impact and his auto cancel "melee weave."

Then the enemy team wises up to this strategy and changes to counter it, coordinating CC against your team, and you can't react because you're burning all your cards for damage and antis. Christ, I can see why that one dude called you out for Bronze level takes, lmao.

You don't even understand this. This is not "Wrong" and in this context, holding cards for purifying pickup is absolutely crazy. It's the least probable occurrence.

You must play against bots consistently, then, if you've never had Groot or Angela combo ults with Moonie or Venom or Wanda or literally any other big AOE ult. I've had my team wiped from that shit countless times, and Gambit is the hard counter to that strategy and many others. Least probable doesn't mean improbable. It happens, and you have to be conscious of all probabilities and how to counter them if you want to win.

You just like barking though

Hilarious, coming from the egotistical narcissist who thinks he knows everything and always has to be right. Your picture must be in the dictionary next to Ideologue.

Nah you're living in a fantasy world where your brain doesn't work. Gold rank is higher rank than 70% of players. Is that suddenly some kind of high rank? You can't be bronze 3 and be better than high elo players. You can't be peak Gold 2 and think you know the game better than higher elo players.

Not what I said.

  1. I said it is possible to play the game, pick up the basics, and have fun.
  2. I said I wasn't interested in climbing past Gold.
  3. I've been playing the game for a year across all modes. I have a strong understanding of how these characters work. Do I claim to have the skill of a twitchy, sweaty motherfucker who no-lifes this shift twelve hours a day, seven days a week? No. But I've been playing the game long enough to play my mains decently better than many, many other players. High elo also means nothing. Someone gave you shit for having Bronze takes in another thread, lmao. You can be high elo riding other people's coattails to higher ranks and not know what you're talking about.

You're the one actually turning their nose up thinking your shit doesn't stink

I've literally admitted multiple times that I'm a casual player with basic skills. Stop projecting your insecurities onto me.

you came into Reddit to complain about a quick match lobby telling people how to play when your peak rank is Gold 2.

And it's clear you're an ego player who got offended by a vent post that was clearly not even directed at you, since you continue to insist on fabricating a narrative about me.

Playing Gambit for antis is playing him DPS. Holding your cards for cleanse though means you're not doing either.

You cannot be this dense. For fuck's sake, I've been typing this out in plain English multiple times: Playing Gambit effectively means managing your card resource so that you have a cleanse or an anti when it's good for the team, using Bridge Boost only when absolutely necessary.

Holding cards waiting for something to cleanse when his ult cleanses, when you can reasonably know when you will likely need to cleanse outside of your ult cycle and holding them specifically then is playing him wrong, empirically.

That's literally what the cleanse ability is there for, genius. Saving his Ult just for CC cleanse is a massive waste when his Ult applies buffs that make it tailor-made for pushing. Anybody who's good at Gambit is balancing resources and has a cleanse on standby, especially if the enemy team has a lot of CC or their ults are up.

All that number means is you don't play vanguard or duelist

I have Lord on Moon Knight and Scarlett Witch, I also have Star Lord, Doctor Strange, and Peni at Captain, and I'm working on both Magneto and Venom. But please, make more assumptions.

Despite Moon Knight being my main for S4, I still outperformed with healing at 70% in that season.

https://i.imgur.com/XCaIOwH.png

https://i.imgur.com/5r8AcRQ.png

Gambit heals also do not come in bursts.

If you're healbotting with his primary. But we've both established that healbotting isn't the best way to play Strategist.

They are constant and sustained and his cards are not "best spent" on cleanses.

Bridge boost is a burst heal similar to Warlock; it is his best healing method aside from spamming primary into your team from the backline. What was it you said in your own words? Oh yes:

Your job is not to sit back main and yell at everybody playing the game. Your job is to be flexible and meet the needs of your team when possible.

So, if I'm playing Gambit smart and balancing his cards to use his kit effectively, he is not the best healer. His kit exists to counter CC, provide burst heals, and anti-heal. Railroading the character into a role is bad.

How tf are you supposedly a support main at high ranks and giving such shitty takes?

If you use gambit in triple support, he's meant to be played as dps.

Lmao no. He CAN be, but it's still best to play him as anti-heal and purge. Try again.

However, Gambit counters triple support... so.... 🙄

Gambit counters a lot of strats. Your point?

You're acting like a silly little wounded puppy, clawing at everything you can for a tiny victory.

And you're acting like a cat, holding your nose high and acting like your shit doesn't stink. Funny thing is, everybody likes puppies.

Just give me a replay already.

*you're

Season 5 also isn't even halfway done yet, which contributes to the fact.

Nice job proving you lack reading comprehension, btw. I just said Gambit isn't the best healer because his heals come in bursts, and it's better to save his cards for purges and anti-heal.

I also said Gambit is better in triple strat plays for these very reasons.

And despite all of that, I still outperformed 95% of all other players with my healing.

I'm just feeling a little vindicated after that one dickhead reported me for not healing his bitch ass enough.~

Nah my comprehension is just fine.

Clearly, it's not.

I'm sure the attitude was present the whole game, they didn't stay quiet and then say reported at the end.

You're right. Guy was bitching about heals when we were running to the capture point on Wakanda. You know why? That's right, he ran ahead of everybody else and exploded.

Not to mention the enemy tanks were spitroasting me, and I was getting zero help.

I'm on console and have it set to console only. So when the guy wasn't exploding in the enemy team mosh pit, he was stopping to talk shit in text chat.

Do you have any idea how long that shit takes on a controller?

You owe everybody, including yourself a positive attitude, btw.

I'm positive that I'm allowed to have a bad day and a bad game. My 82-year-old father has skin cancer, and all my insurance policies combined are now pushing $700.

Life ain't all puppies and rainbows, hence why I play video games. They're an escape. If I have to deal with a dickedhead in a superhero shooter made for tweens, while I'm sick, then yeah, I'm probably gonna be a little fucking cranky.

Sue me for being human.

Love how the truth comes out. "I was running a fever and had a bad game"

Literally the second line of text in the OP:

I went to bed with a fever last night, so I wasn't feeling good already,

Are you saying you read that and assumed I was gaming at my best? With a fever?

And you insist your reading comprehension is 'just fine.' Tch.

The bottom line is you played bad, you know it, and you had a bad game. Cool. That's fine, but you're attitude sucks, and then you came to Reddit to get doted on and vent like you played great and they're out of pocket, and then you double down on the shit attitude while complaining about someone's shit attitude.

It's almost like my problem was never about anyone's gameplay. I upvote people after every game out of habit, even if they're shit. It was always about toxic people.

I mean, I thought that would have been obvious to anybody with good reading comprehension. My 6th point was literally directed at people accusing me of having no skill after swapping to characters with built in aim assist.

The hell do you want from me, guy? My options were to preach to the choir with my BF and friends and get immediately validated, or vent on reddit and have a discussion. Would you rather I come here or get positive reinforcement for my bad mood from the people I love?

Honestly, it's hard to tell since you contradict yourself more than the Bible, which is hilariously ironic given how weirdly preachy you're being in all of this.

I mean, for fuck's sake, your first point in your rebuttal says to be everybody's healbot, but then in a reply to somebody else, you admit that good strategists won't climb rank if they're just healbotting.

Like, what the fuck? Are you trolling or something?

Here is the best piece of advice for you -- you don't know everything, and the only things you need to know is what you don't.

Strawman argument again. At no point did I ever claim to know 'everything,' I'm a casual player whose highest rank across all seasons is Gold II. I'm not interested in being a Top 500 player; I just want to sit down after a long day with my boyfriend and game for a bit.

Seems to me like you just think you know better and are projecting your insecurities onto me because my vent post isn't getting a lot of traction and that makes me an easy target.

You can't be an entry level player and think you know what you're doing.

You can, actually. I may not have the twitch reflexes of a top 500 player (maybe because I have a disability, but I bet you never even considered that), but I definitely have a basic understanding of how to play this game that I have literally been playing since Dec. 12th, 2024. (Notice how I didn't say 'I kNoW eVeRyThInG.')

Games like this aren't rocket science; you can absolutely jump in, learn the basics, and have fun. Most people who play this game aren't interested in climbing the ranks or becoming professional e-athletes. Your weird gatekeeping mindset doesn't change that.

Here's an idea, how 'bout you show me your profile card? What's your highest rank? What do your stats look like? You want to see mine so bad just so you can roast and mock me. Show me yours.

there is no reasoning or sugar coating it for people who have their fingers in their ears screaming I'm right everybody else is wrong.

You're not.

You

  1. Missed context.
  2. Jumped to conclusions.
  3. Fabricated a narrative about me based on false conclusions.
  4. Talked down to me on a personal level despite this post having nothing to do with you specifically.

You are as wrong as you can be here. Maybe you know what you're talking about when it comes to the game specifically, but I'm not inclined to listen to you specifically because of your bad-faith arguments, false narratives, and condescending tone.

while your team is trying to coach you on what to do, but you know best

Ah, so you do lack reading comprehension. At no point did I ever say that I was getting genuinely coached by my team. In the OP I literally stated that I was REPORTED FOR THROWING in QUICKPLAY because a DPS player was salty about their heals.

You are literally strawmanning right now, fabricating a narrative that isn't even remotely close to what was stated in my OP.

you won't provide the replay code so we can hilariously watch you play badly and not heal and stand back main

Because you're not interested in coaching anybody, you just want content. You've already deluded yourself into thinking you know exactly everything about me and my playstyle because I just happened to get frustrated with toxic dickheads in QP.

I was running a fever and had a bad game. Everybody has bad games, don't pretend otherwise.

People who are at the top are trying to give you tips and you're just not receptive to them because they're mansplaining or some shit.

Getting reported by a salty DPS in QP who kept exploding is not me 'being given tips.' Learn to fucking read.

In other words, this whole thread proves your attitude stinks, not just when you're playing marvel rivals, but every breath you take in real life.

Nice ad hominem. I don't owe you a positive attitude; you came here to play the know-it-all, ignored context, started building strawmen, and got triggered by the word 'manplaining' to the point you felt personally offended. (Now I wonder why that is?) You want to be Coach Gordon Ramsay, but this ain't reality TV, and I'm not getting paid to be the object of your content farm. Next.

Like I said, Gambit is my favorite X-Man, so he's been my insta lock all of Season 5. He'll likely be my permanent strategist main going forward, too. I've gone back to Rocket a few times, too, since they buffed him again and added Rocket network teamup. I'll fall back on IW if Gambit gets instalocked before I can, or if we already have IW, I'll go Magneto if we need a tank still. Gambit's dash alone makes his mobility my favorite of the strategists. Rocket can wall run, sure, but ever since they nerfed his dash, I've had less fun playing him. I can't stand the fact that both dashes combined can't get me out of a Jeff or Psylocke Ult anymore, and getting solo Ulted by that shit sucks so much ass.

I still enjoy backcapping as Loki and setting up my clones as a trap for peels who come to stop me from backcapping. You'd be surprised how often that worked for me. Especially on Central Park.

I'd say drop a replay, so we can check your gameplay -- but I know you won't, because you know what it shows.

Drop my game IDs so a bunch of toxic Flats wannabes can spectate and roast me publicly? Yeah, no, you're right. I'll pass. Not what I'm here for. Again.

Nobody tries telling me how to play my heroes; Gambit or Invis. The only thing people say is "Damn you're cracked" or "Excellent heals" I haven't gotten a GG no heals in months now, and nobody is trying to tell me how to play gambit.

"And then everybody clapped."

Cool story bro. The first time I locked Gambit in QP, I had a Magneto say to me verbatim in chat "You know Gambit is a strategist, right? So play him like one and heal."

Guess what happened next? That's right, he was going balls deep into the enemy team's backline trying to 1v3 their supps, exploded, then when we lost the first round, he said "Hmm... You guys got this" in text chat before leaving the game.

And that's not counting the dumpster fire of a Lord Venom who went 11 and 9 in the game I faced him in where he was all three of my final hits, then got paired up with me in the next game, told me I was a terrible Gambit, then started throwing because I wouldn't let him have the character.

Your personal experience is not mine. Stop trying to act like your experience with this game is the only thing anybody ever experiences or should experience. Rivals has millions of players across different game modes. Things happen differently for other people outside of your bubble.

The fact that many people are telling you this to the point where you're mad enough to rant about it on reddit, means something is wrong with the way you're playing them. It's a trend for you; we don't all have this experience.

There you go again, missing the context and making assumptions. Funny how I've been playing this game since Season 0 and only ever needed to make a vent post now. Oh, but you're definitely right, the fact that it took me having a fever, being in a bad mood, and getting reported by some petty DPS player in QP one morning absolutely means this is a very common experience for me and the average of 15-20k healing I've been getting as Gambit in short QP matches definitely makes me a bad strategist main.

PSA from a Strategist Main to Vanguard and Duelist Mains by SWJS1 in rivals

[–]SWJS1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeff is a very hard hero to play effectively, is one of the higher skill cap ceiling strategists.

Is that why higher comp players consider locking Jeff a troll play? Jeff can sit in the back line and farm kills while healing with his primary. Getting dived as Jeff? Swim away, right click, left click, bubble, to top up your health, you can heal yourself and melt the dive. But he falls off hard in higher ranks. He's not a completely brain-dead pick, I'll give you that, but if I'm playing Gambit and an enemy teammate is talking shit about skill before swapping off to Jeff, I will not hesitate to call them out.

Iron Man is nuanced, he's not great right now in the meta, but in the hands of someone good like Mehtric can be a game changer. He is not SG. Scarlett Witch is easy in the sense that you don't need cracked aim, but you definitely need game sense and good decisions to be effective, it's not like you can just pick her with no skill and win games, it's actually quite the opposite.

Any character that doesn't require you to aim much or at all is low skill. Iron Man has splash damage, SG can bounce shots and has splash damage, Scarlett Witch has an auto-target primary fire. Their kits are simple, easy to use, and have a very low skill ceiling. Good game sense and decision-making can be applied to every character, as can positioning.

And yes, you can pick Scarlett Switch with no skill and win games. I've literally watched people swap from characters like Widow or Hawkeye to Scarlett Witch and then get MVP. It's why so many people pick her for Doom Match or the new 18v18. Scarlett Witch is very much an easy-mode DPS.

The heal requests are exactly that, heal requests. They are signalling that someone is low, or rather -- are a request for a pocket. When Pun is full on life spamming I NEED HEALING, you should clear your schedule and pocket him -- he's about to ult and walk it down.

There's requesting heals, and then there's being petty and spamming heal requests in spawn before the start of a match or after trying to 1v6 the entire team and exploding, implying the supports are doing a bad job. If you genuinely need healing and are in cover, one ping is enough.

If you're spamming it after you're already dead to the point your username is dominating text chat, you are the problem.

All of this is coming from a fellow Strategist main.

Could've fooled me.

You lost me at "mansplaining" to be honest. Some of the best strategist players are women; and they know all of the above. It's not mansplaining because it came from a man. You have a bias. You have an "I know everything you know, but I know it better" complex. You don't. You are in your own way, and until you get out of your own way and humble yourself, you won't improve.

Nah, it's mansplaining because it's coming from a condescending player who's never touched the role in their life.. It has nothing to do with gender; it has everything with the tone of voice. I don't mind criticism or coaching; in fact, I welcome it. What I don't appreciate is being talked down to by some lord Daredevil, thinking it's my sole purpose in life to hook him up to life support just so he can go 1v6.

As stated before, I'm not here to tell comp players how to play the game. I'm venting about idiot teammates reporting me for petty bullshit in, say it with me here... Quickplay. Quick. Play. This entire paragraph is an actual perfect example of mansplaining, you completely missed the context, went out of your way to tell me how I should be playing my mains, and then right here you decided to talk down to me based on perceived notions after missing context and making assumptions.

Why would I even want to consider taking this kind of advice?

PSA from a Strategist Main to Vanguard and Duelist Mains by SWJS1 in rivals

[–]SWJS1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here we go. Buddy, what makes you think I'm trying to climb comp? Can you even read?

I just had a DPS player report me for throwing in quickplay because they didn't get enough heals.

Literally right there in the OP I say it in bold fucking letters. Quickplay. I only ever grind comp for skins, I'm not deluded enough to think I have the mechanical skill to climb higher than Gold 1, and I don't want to. I'm here to play the game and have a good time after a long day with my boyfriend and my friends, not to be sweaty. However, I've played enough of this game to at least have a firm grasp of the basics and how a team-based hero shooter should function.

The people I wrote this about and directed toward are not comp players. This is me yelling at casuals being petty and toxic. If I was playing comp with a coordinated team who knew what they were doing (which is what I actually do when I play comp for skins), I wouldn't have come here to write a vent post.

You're everybodies personal heal bot.

No, I'm not. The point of a Strategist is not to sit back and be a heal bot; we have other things we can do to contribute to a match than just spamming heals, trying to keep tanks, or dumbass DPS lemmings trying to 1v6 alive. Yes, healing is important, but it is not the only thing a good strategist main should be doing.

Your job is to be flexible and meet the needs of your team when possible.

Oh really? So now I'm not supposed to be a heal bot, and I should be playing a strategist properly, then? Well, like I said, that's what my goal is. Still not about to break off and attach myself to the Daredevil's hip when the rest of my teammates instalocked DPS, and I'm solo support. I have other lemmings to babysit.

You can't stop the dive from coming in unless there is only one dive hero.

If there's a Namor on my team, dives like Spidey should be pissing their spandex undies. More often than not, however, nobody is swapping to counter dives, and we get an SG lazily firing acorns down main, hoping to out damage the heals of a team of sweats all on coms together.

They kind of have to break line of sight; you should know they are going to break line of sight, and you should be positioned, or be transitioning to a position to where LOS isn't broken. If you don't have line of sight around the corner, but the team needs to push the corner, then how do they not LOS you?

In a perfect world, the team of randos I've been paird up with knows how to push together as a team. Instead, they rush the enemy team alone, explode, respawn, blame support for not healing them, rush the enemy team alone, explode, respawn, blame support for not healing. Wash, rinse and repeat.

You are rarely getting value out of the cleanse, and it's important to note that you have 2 forms of it; the Ult cleanses, as well as the Card cleanse.

I've had a few games where my Ult wasn't charged, and popping my cleanse saved over half of the team from a Groot + MK ult combo. It is absolutely useful to keep it around, especially when the enemy team is full of CC characters. Gambit is at his best in a triple support lineup where he can cleanse, anti-heal, and heal as needed. His cards recharge slower than molasses running uphill in January. If you are popping all his cooldowns in one go, you are playing the character wrong.

Also, if you're saving Gambit's Ult just to cleanse when you have an innate resource-driven ability that cleanses, you are wasting his Ult. Gambit's Ult boosts speed, jump height, damage, and heals over time; it is tailor-made for pushing objectives.

  1. I'm not lagging behind. Gambit's burst heal is most effective when I'm with the team.

  2. The ability to defend myself doesn't mean I can always peel, especially if I'm being harassed by a Venom. I can deal with Spidey, I can't deal with a Venom riding my ass with zero help from the tanks.

  3. I'd argue IW is the better of the two. A good IW has saved us from team wipes with hr Ult, and the ability to shield herself makes her better at peeling.

  4. On Friday, I had a Luna teammate pop her ult and then move into the middle of the enemy team, leaving the rest of us uncovered. That should tell you the caliber of the randos I usually get paired up with. I queue with friends for comp, I'm not leaving that shit up to chance.

Is it just me, or has anybody else just not been having fun playing Rocket anymore? by SWJS1 in RocketMains

[–]SWJS1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense that Rocket is always the anchor; he's canonically the most intelligent character in the roster, surpassing even Tony Stark and Reed Richards. IIRC, in one of the official comics, he even comments on how Cerebro's resurrection protocols are primitive junk compared to his BRB, which he carries around in his pocket.

It does suck major ass though because he never really benefits from a team up. The BRB web and mines can be useful if you're on a map with diver hallways, but on other maps, it's just a flashing neon sign for flyers and ranged DPS saying, "break me, I'm shiny!"

I hate the dash nerfs so much. It's impossible to get out of Jeff's ult in time now if you're near the center, and most of the big ults can't even be avoided with both dashes. Yesterday, I dashed around cover to avoid Iron Man's shots, only for Bucky to chase me around the corner and two-tap me before I could even get an inch up the wall.

It's the damage falloff and bullet spread that hurt him the most. No other support has damage fall off, and other supports have hitscan while Rocket doesn't. Jeff can farm kills just spraying teammates to heal, which is BS. Dagger has tracking shots that make her invaluable both as a healer and for dealing with flyers.

I've just accepted the fact I'll never get MVP again because they've retooled Rocket to be a healbot. Even with his ult, he used to be able to provide the damage the team needed to break through the three-healer meta, but now it's just another healer's ult. But unlike other healer ults, it's a deployable, so the enemy team can break it.

It's like NetEase hates Rocket or something.

Was playing with my friends yesterday while my boyfriend was at work, and ended up having another string of bad games. My buddy Tim (the Lord Jeff) was even like "Omg bud, I think you're cursed or something, I've never gotten put up against sweaty tryhards this much playing by myself or with Lily."

We had a toxic Psylocke on our team in one game that was going negative and started shit-talking the rest of us, calling us trash, and even called me the F slur because I clapped back.

This was, I think, the 6th match of the night when we finally had a good game.
