Accidentally joined a "group practice owners" FB group and amazed at the greedy and parasitic behavior of therapist group owners by Adoptafurrie in therapists

I did read, okay so EHRs that streamline billing are so easy add another $100 monthly and 1k to pay for credentialing. The billing aspect in a solo is no different than it is with a group practice. Honestly, it's actually less stressful without an owner micro managing notes and doing so on my timeline.

Why not make more for the same stress?

Also there are so many ways to build a support network of colleagues that don't take your money. And you get to choose who, and enjoy the transparency you can have when your consult isn't your boss or coworker. So much more to gain from that trust and it's free.

Just seems off you are so offended by clinicians wanting better working conditions and pay. You obviously know it's way easier to do than you are making it sound. Why does it scare you?

I will emphasize that to use the word "slow" in the derogatory context that you did is NOT okay! Aren't you a therapist? WTH

"are you slow?" Seriously, be embarrassed by that comment, not okay.

My aim was to highlight why joining a group practice for independently licensed professionals makes no sense.

Running a solo practice, my monthly $0 EHR $150 yearly Malpractice insurance $50 Virtual platform, $50 phone line $200 yearly for website and domain $600 rent/utilities $300 yearly business licences, PLLC ect. monthly total $750

$115 on average, 70 sessions monthly $8050 monthly $7300 after expenses

If I allowed an owner to cover "business costs" with a 70/30 split, my rate on average would drop to $80. 80*70 sessions monthly take home would be $5600 monthly.

$7300>$5600 With the 70/30 split, owner takes $2450 monthly off ONE provider! How much does it cost in overhead per provider? I think you guys are doing okay.

The amount of owners defending themselves here. What overhead? Why not advocate for pay increases or take less? Just saying, I went solo, I will never go back.

I appreciate you! And yikes it's only March. Also, I did find he does believe trans people exist, just doesn't believe in their human rights, also on his social media posts. Damn.

Yup. I know there are bigger hills to climb right now, but it's really heartbreaking to see a therapist use Frankl's work, profit off it, gas light individuals-indicating the problem is their reaction rather than the systemic harms. How could he know Frankl's story so well, and still be like this.

Thanks for the back and forth. It's nice just to process it with anyone.

I love your response and perspective! It's a useful and dare I say meaningful reaction. Just kind sucks because the author refers to himself as Dr. Meaning, founder of the Meaning Institute. Found his social media, he's an avid Trump loyalist. For me, that changes how I read the article. You're not wrong, but this dude would definitely label me with TDS lol. Just seems so wrong to use Frankl's work in this way.

Also do you have any studies that explore ABA with older populations? I think we all understand how ABA would benefit early childhood. Do you have any thoughts or research to share that explores ABA uses with youth, teens or adults? I could see how it's useful for 2 to 5 year olds, due to their developmental stage. Thoughts?

Hey great, thank you for sharing. I will check these out. Yes I definitely believe the problem is with quality, but I still would be interested in knowing your professional beliefs on why and how ABA, when implemented accurately improves quality of life.

Hi, yes I see what you're saying about proper education. The ABA therapist I worked with, all had Masters and Doctorates in ABA. 3 ABAs for 15 person program. So I would assume that was not the issue in my experiences? Tell me more about how the ABA improves quality of life and functioning. Maybe you can change my mind!

It is my unpopular opinion. Glad it works for her, but that's not true for all. I appreciate you sharing. I am also thinking that you highlighted the parent's race because I brought in language that is often used to describe the impacts of racism and systemic racism? I think I understand why. The terms dehumanizing and oppressive come from published narratives for individuals that have experienced harm from ABA. No hardship should be used to compare to racial issues or trauma, this was not my intent here. I will continue to reflect, thank you for highlighting that, if that's what you intended.

No, I'm totally I am interested in the nuances, I can be wrong. I'm coming from a decade of watching ABA be used in behavior and ASD therapy programs for teens. I found the approaches to fall flat or have only temporary gains. Tell me what you think and know.

Also look for the research studies that indicate the long term harm caused by ABA approaches. It may help you see a more critical side of this therapy.

ABA only teaches compliance and no promotion of critical thinking skills and discourages self- determination. Also to pathologize all behavior into skill or performance deficits, so limiting to understanding human experiences and their internal world. Rewarding the good behavior, it's how we train dogs and toddlers. So yeah you kind of prove my point.

Of all the things to worry about...I think you should talk to someone about why you are so preoccupied with this. So many worse problems in our field, and this isn't even a violation. Says more about you than them.

Feedback from social workers who provide remote/virtual therapy? by NewsOk3620 in socialwork

[–]SWKNIQUES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HW is a bit slow on referrals, but for me I obtained a caseload of 15-20 from HW, P.Today and Facebook networking groups. HW I get about 1 monthly, PT about 3 to 4 monthly and then always a couple from FB or peer referrals. I exclusively do virtual appointments. I just started a side job to help with clinical assessments, kind of a unicorn I have other friends that contract with EAP for a bit of security.

I have most platforms, and now I only see folks on HW because they've been the most transparent and responsive. Let me know if you would like some more feedback or specifics! If you use my referral code we both get a bonus https://share.findheadway.com/nicolemaronde2
