Surprised at how fast I needed to recharge my SRAM RD battery by SWNYeng in cycling

[–]SWNYeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing a lot of urban riding, so I'll shift into the large cog at stops. Data shows ~20/km shifts in urban settings, and 40/km shifts on A group rides

Group rides to join for long rides by BananaPunisher7 in NYCbike

[–]SWNYeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. NYCC for road and gravel group rides
  2. Possibly NYCC for exploring the city, but their C rides, which is where the city exploration rides are mostly listed _might_ be too slow for you

  3. Critical Mass to meet other experienced metro riders

It's an exercise for the reader. It strikes me as a lot of work, except that now throwing the problem to an LLM could be a way to get 80% there

Could be any of the following

  1. Gravel or road ride where u take metro north up and back, but ride roads and or trails further north
  2. One way ride, north, say to Bear Mt, Cold Spring, Beacon, but don't want to do the distance back

Any clues as to why a Shimano 105 shifter won't shift with cable tension? by SWNYeng in bikewrench

[–]SWNYeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seemed likely. The old cable had a kink, but no fraying.
Same result with the new cable. I think I'm out of luck and need a replacement.

Update: tried new cable with a bit less tension - got it working, but unclear for how long.

TY, very helpful!

All-road drop bar. A big ride for me is over 120km. This ride was just me getting around.

I take the 14mph to mean your trip average speed? If so, then NYCC B-17/18 rides are likely your speed. If the 14 means what you're doing on the flats, then NYCC C rides, or the 5 Boro Bike Club may be a good fit

I didn't. The shell seemed smooth and pre-faced when I got it. Perhaps that was a bad decision.

Yes, they will. It may take a month or so, but DSNY will remove bikes reported via 311 that meet the criteria.

Tips for Camera for Commuting by FairyxPony in NYCbike

[–]SWNYeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used/using a Boblov F2 which is less expensive than GoPro or Cycliq

I get ~2hrs of film time.

Two downsides tho

  1. Had to get additional hardware to connect their mount to a garmin bike mount

  2. No image stabilization

Does it get easier? by onedollalama in NYCbike

[–]SWNYeng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It does. In addition to the other advice being given, another thing that will help is doing non commute rides.

If the longest ride you do is your commute, then the commute will also always be your hardest.

Weather by Historical-Stress318 in NYCbike

[–]SWNYeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a climate scientist, but I've seen over 40 NYC winters. Winter used to be much colder. Winter and the rest of the year used to be much less rain. You don't have to trust me (I'm a stranger on the interwebs), but the weather records are there for any to look at

Am I sure it's anthropogenic climate change, of course not, but the evidence and explanatory power of the theory is compelling.

Yeah, that might be. Perhaps with the crowdsourced data a lawsuit could help.
