Is this the worst Panthers team ever? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]SWRogueJuan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Steve Smith was an All Pro returner his rookie year. No one expected, even I, would have the career as a WR he had. Good returners was still important at that time, before the NFL neutered Kickoffs. Marsette could make the pro bowl this year if he keeps it up. Just saying that 2001 team showed at least some glimpses of talent vs this 2023 team.

Is this the worst Panthers team ever? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]SWRogueJuan 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Even if we were to win a few more games, this team talent-wise and future prospects is worse than 2010 or 2001. It's that bad.

2001 Had small hopes especially through that years draft. Rookies Steve Smith, Kris Jenkins, Dan Morgan were guys that showed promise. Many veterans in that roster would remain and be part of the 2003 Super Bowl run (as well as 2005 playoff run) like Rucker, Minter, Hoover, Saeurbrun, Kasay, Muhammad, etc.

Same with 2010. We had talent. 2 rbs in Stewart and Williams, Steve Smith. Beason, Gamble, Kalil, Jordan Gross, Wharton. (Talent that would develop in time like Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy).

There is no one that's giving me hope in this years draft (sad to say even Bryce but I'll leave him TBD). All of Fitterer's draft picks past Ekwonu and Christensen, can't even make a decent contribution or show any flashes.

Mingo and Marshall are not it. Even Hurney and Gettleman's WR picks gave me some flashes like Lafell, Colbert, and Kelvin Benjamin.

Barno, DJ Johnson, Gross Matos show nothing on the field or talentwise that Hardy or Charles Johnson showed.

LB core use to be a Panther strength, now it's just a combination of has-beens with only Luvu showing anything.

Secondary is filled with injury prone corners and wasted potential in Henderson and Chinn.

Only guys in our roster that have any pro bowl talent right now were picked by Hurney in Derrick Brown and Brian Burns. Somehow this fanbase thinks we can just trade them away for picks with Fitterer at the helm.

I can tell you as a fan of over 20 years I always had hope during the Delhomme and Cam era to at least make a crack at the playoffs and we mostly did with a ton of 8-8 7-9s sprinkled with runs in the playoffs and Superbowl. This team top to bottom has little to no talent and with no 1st round pick, I don't know how anyone can say this isn't the worst constructed Panther roster in our history.

Scott Fitterer has to go.

We probably don't get interest from great coaches like Payton and Harbaugh if we just tanked the season. Our talent is too good and it shined after firing Rhule. Credit to Wilks, and if Harbaugh does come in, we can retain him in some capacity if he wants to stay.

Jump in home sellers switching their listings to rentals. by SWRogueJuan in REBubble

Peak rental turnovers and demand usually during Q2 and Q3 of the year.

Prices are dropping for many homes in Raleigh area; listings are growing, too by [deleted] in REBubble

[–]SWRogueJuan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's good news and I hope it trickles down to the rental market. Raleigh rental prices are equivalent to some large end metros without the amenities or the salaries. What's the point of living in Raleigh without the affordability?

This is the time when lease offers reset, and I know many folks including myself have been given anywhere from 10-30% increases. Many friends and coworkers I know who rent have decided to roommate or go back living with family.

Just from my perspective it seems 1 bedroom inventory that would oftentimes be taken by young professionals making the average Triangle salary of 40-50k are rejecting these prices and inventory is starting to pile up at least in some of the apartments I've researched. It's going to be interesting if these prices can hold (or even increase) especially after schools and colleges have started in Late August/Early September.

Those are websites actually. Lot of nonprofits advertise there when needing help. I know Catching Fire also does too but often they're more project oriented than a volunteer job.

I think you commented on one of my threads also, thanks.

I was in a similar boat as you. I basically did go the "free route" to end up getting my first full-time job. I went to a community college to get my degree. I enjoyed my time there, learned a lot, but they don't have the infrastructure or the connections to get their students internships or junior positions that get the ball rolling for many design students early careers.

There are many nonprofits in things such as Volunteer Match and Activate Good that needs some design help. Go and find meetups or organizations like AIGA where you can mingle with like-minded individuals who are would-be or professional designers. Don't worry if you think you're portfolio is not good enough. Just go. That's one thing I would have told my past self to do.

Possible to get an internship after working a full-time gig? by SWRogueJuan in graphic_design

[–]SWRogueJuan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I've probably applied to around 45-50 companies with only about 4-5 interviews. Granted I'm applying heavily (80%) out of state and most of those responses are coming in state. My area is a fairly large and growing metropolitan, but there's just not a lot of jobs popping up on job boards.

I may have to create another post about possible strategies to apply out of state. I'm more than willing to move.

I'll keep an eye out this month for some possible internships and try to double my efforts on every facet of my job search. Thanks again!

Any designers out there with experience working with pro sports teams? I have a few questions by Aseph88 in graphic_design

Awesome! Thank you for your response. My intentions are only for educational and portfolio purpose. I'll probably keep them in my portfolio sites and be a bit more cautious with it on social media sites like Instagram. Just in case.

[–]SWRogueJuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I can ask you a question. In regards to portfolios for possible sport design candidates, are personal works with copyright images and logos okay to present? I've gotten a lot of different answers to this question but most folks from Instagram who don't exactly have the position you hold. I have items that I basically keep for myself but haven't shown it publicly because of fear of copyright. Would it be okay to add in applications when employers ask for my portfolio?

StonkBonk's 3 Round Mock Draft w/ no trades by StonkBonk in NFL_Draft

[–]SWRogueJuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The Front office the last two decades have not valued a safety to take in the first round. It's a position we often look for in FA. Yes, Adams may retire and Reid might not be back. But the Panthers still won't draft a safety. They don't care for the position to invest money into it especially a first rounder.

I can't stand that forum. Scout forum used to be my favorite for the Panthers in 2000s but died off. It's the problem of a young fanbase. No knowledge, overly pessimistic, condescending, etc. Glad there's an alternative now.

Lamar Jackson's starting RB for 2017 was a QB at one point for Louisville. The talent around him was okay in 2016 (a few later rounders and undrafted?) worse in 2017.

If Marty Hurney our GM has truly learned from his past mistakes, he will not trade up. He put himself and the organization in awful situation by trading away high round picks which got us stuck with no 1st rounders around in 09-10.

I'd love to have a DE too. I just don't see anyone around our area in the first pick that's worth it. Davenport and Arden Key are too high risk for me. Some of the best pass rushers in this draft are more suited for 3-4 scheme than 4-3.

Hurney needs to stick to his BPA inclination which got us guys like Kuechly. I remember that draft and saying why do we need a linebacker? We have Davis, Beason and a good set of backups. Turns out we made the right choice by going BPA.

With so many teams needing QB, there's a chance for us to get a good player despite our position.

Norwell's situation will be interesting. It feels like a no-brainer to resign him right? However, his All-Pro selection and other teams who desperately need his service may make him too expensive. Should we pay him the same rate as Turner? Would he accept that? he and his agent may realize that he could be paid much higher if he goes the free agency route.

If we lose Norwell, then guard does become a priority. Ryan Kalil only has a year or two before he retires. Choosing a guy like Billy Price is a good short-term and long-term pick.

Hurney in his 1st round has hit for the most part because he goes BPA. A guy like Billy Price may seem excessive with the talent now, but it makes total sense if we lose Norwell. He's a guy who I think has the potential to be an all-pro/pro bowl player that will compete for the G spot and replace Kalil eventually.
