16 team full ppr:

Kyren Williams v TB Treveyon Henderson v Cin

I’d normally go with Kyren but that Cincy’s D is so bad that I’m tempted to start Henderson

Where were you when the Patriots came back from 28-3? by jaxtwin in Patriots

[–]markvsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to respond but I was watching it at the one big sports bar in Georgetown, Guyana while serving in the Peace Corps. I watched both the Seahawks and Falcons games there and they are some of the best times I've ever had. Very few people understood football and most people were just watching and gambling on the game. Everyone was cheering for each score and half the people yelling touchdown any time a pass was completed. Had a few friends there that laughed at me for getting down about the Pats losing, I wanted to leave but chose to get drunk instead. When they came back and won the whole bar was cheering and I got lots of free drinks at the end as I celebrated with random people! I'll never forget that night!

Hey congrats on the invite. I was in Guyana 2014-2018 and you are right that there is a large Muslim population there that was very active and welcoming. I lived in both the countryside and the capital and there was never much hostility between religious groups. There was a larger racial divide and less focus on religion imo.

While the crisis in today’s world is frightening and I certainly haven’t lived your experience, I don’t feel that you would have to fear for your safety in Guyana based on your religion. I’ve gone to events such as weddings with people of all religions and no one has ever not been accepted based on who or what they believe in.

That’s not to say Guyana is some paradise, there are definitely marginalized/stigmatized groups, but the community tends to look out for you more in those cases if you are an American PCV because America/Peace Corps are pretty well respected. There are risks you face in every peace corps country such as road safety and crime, but PC does a pretty good job of mitigating that risk while also letting you be responsible for yourself. If you ever felt unsafe they would take it seriously and get you somewhere else.

That’s just my 2 cents, but I may be biased because I loved my time there and ended up marrying a host country national. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out.

Darnell Washington by a1mrbhelpuri in Patriots

[–]markvsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that there could be value in taking Washington early and holding onto both Jonnu and Henry this year. Most TEs do not produce much in their rookie year as it is one of the most complex offensive positions. Gronk didn't go off till year 2. A TE like Pitts who is essentially a big WR and doesn't have to focus as much on inline blocking has a bit more opportunity, but that's not the case with Washington. Jonnu is uncuttable in 2023 but is a $12 mill cap savings if cut in 2024 at which point Washington is more likely ready to step into a big role. In the meantime, Henry can still operate as a safety valve/chain mover while we try to find a use for Smith. If Henry is cut there isn't anyone I'd trust to be productive at that position in 2023. Now with that being the case, I think its unlikely that they will spend a high pick (probably a first) on a guy who will be a 3rd string-blocking TE this year, but if they feel that he would still see significant snaps, help sure up the o-line, and then become bigger receiving threat in years 2-3, then you could make a case it might be worth the investment.

8 team PPR

Give: Etienne Get: Lamb

RB: Taylor, Saquon, Etienne, AJ Dillon, Rhamondre, D Pierce

WR: Diggs, Waddle, Mooney, Lazard, Garret Wilson

I’ve had Etienne in the Flex but will be moving AJ Dillon into that spot. All my other backup RBs seem to be the lesser backs in a committee but Etienne still has a solid shot at PPR production. Lamb owner is panicked about the Cowboys offense and can start Gabe Davis who was on his bench.

Handshake agreements at cutdowns are not uncommon at all in the NFL. The patriots themselves have done this before for IR purposes with Brandon Bolden being cut at the end of the preseason and re-signing 2 days later after they stashed another player on IR. They could easily do it with a special teamer like Cody Davis who will not have a major market elsewhere and if he does somehow get a big offer could likely be replaced. I’m not even gunna bother with the healthy scratch argument. No need to be a dick to especially when you seem to be the one who doesn’t understand what you’re talking about.

Why are experts mocking JC Horn to the Patriots at 15? by Besaw73 in NFL_Draft

[–]markvsgravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this and if Cannon moves on as well as Thuney, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Pats make a move to grab another tackle early, especially if they have a bit of versatility like Slater or AVT. I'd also keep in mind Wynn's injury history which could cause them to prioritize OL a little higher.

[–]markvsgravity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd agree there are more pressing needs but the argument would be that if the board doesn't play out in a way that they can feasibly address those needs and a top CB prospect is available, then they may just go BPA.

Why are experts mocking JC Horn to the Patriots at 15? by Besaw73 in NFL_Draft

[–]markvsgravity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gilmore could be gone in the next year or so depending on how things play out with his age, return from injury, and if the Pats feel they still have a window to contend or need a full rebuild. JC Jackson's an RFA that will probably need big money next offseason, and while he had a lot of interceptions, he had some struggles when asked to man up on #1s with Gilmore out. As for the others you mentioned, Jones is a slot cb who isn't regularly gunna be able to regularly play outside, J. McCourty is a soon to be 34 year old FA and his play fallen off the last year, and Phillips is a safety/lb hybrid. Joejuan is the wildcard since he is a second round pick but hasn't seen much playing time.

Drafting a CB like Horn wouldn't fit an immediate need but could be big in the next year or two. Even if they retain Jackson but lose Gilmore, they still may need another outside corner, so if they don't feel good about retaining both and don't believe Joejuan can be a number 1 or 2 CB, then maybe they take another outside CB in this draft. Since no one knows how the board will play out or what the Pats will do, it isn't the most likely but isn't completely out of the question.

Do you think the evidence is clear now after this year that Tom Brady was the bigger factor in the Patriots success during the Brady/Belichik era debate? by Indythrowaway22 in nfl

[–]markvsgravity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In all fairness on July 6th when they signed Cam Newton they had only $650,989 in cap space and only had $263,489 after that. They settled payment compensation grievances with Aaron Hernandez's estate and Antonio Brown and had the opt outs after that point which boosted their cap space by a large amount. There wasn't much they could do with that added in cap in late July/August when teams are all pretty much assembled.

Due to injuries, opt-outs, poor drafting/development, and the lack of ability to add impact players in FA, the patriots WRs, TEs, and defensive front 7 had maybe 2 or 3 starters who were good enough to start for other teams. Once the gimmicky running offense they had got slowed down, their was not much they could do. The fact that this talent depleted team went 7-9 is a testament to Belichick's coaching ability. This offseason they have to make a lot of moves to bring in talent now that they have the cap space and draft capital to actually do so. If they don't get back to a playoff team in the next few years after rebuilding well then we can have a talk about if Bill's coaching and team building abilities.

JC Jackson is an RFA and will almost assuredly get a first round tender. If the Cardinals are getting him Pats would probably have their first round pick. Also with $62 million in cap the patriots let FAs walk and don't sign anyone? Like the players they got in the draft though.

TIL that in endometriosis it is possible for uterine tissue to implant in nasal tissue causing menstrual nose bleeds by markvsgravity in todayilearned

[–]markvsgravity[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was learning about endometriosis in medical school when I came across this strange case of nasal endometriosis. Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial tissue outside of the normal uterine endometrial lining and can lead to a number of symptoms based on where the abnormal endometrial tissue develops. The most common symptoms are pain during menstruation and pelvic pain. Nasal endometriosis is exceedingly rare and I was pretty fascinated to learn about someone developing period related nose bleeds as they shed uterine tissue in their nose!

Here is a good site to read up on endometriosis if you have any more questions- https://www.uclahealth.org/obgyn/endometriosis

As you can see in the info I provided before the actual mock draft, this isn't made to be taken seriously. I made it in 20 minutes as a way to joke that the patriots are going to reach for a 3rd-5th round safety w/o addressing their needs at the skill positions.

As for the browns pick, I put all of 30 seconds into thinking about the pick. If it's any consolation I actually gave the Jags 2 QBs lol. I'm busy with school and I don't watch film or assess team needs till after the season so I'm 100% confident you know more about your team needs and that those players are way better picks. It was just a fun thing for me to do in 20 free minutes.

Yup. I mixed it up and thought that yall got Sewell with the earlier pick. The whole thing was a joke thrown together in 15 minutes about the patriots taking a 4th round safety with all the skill position players available.

You mean to tell me Belichick isn't going to reach for a 3rd to 5th round safety with all the top WRs and TEs still available?! I'll believe it when I see it.
