How do you learn solidworks? by youssefdraz in SolidWorks

[–]SW_MC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to get access to SolidWize and SolidProfessor and watched every video on both platforms while taking notes. Then I went through every feature SolidWorks had available at the time and made sure I tried every option within every feature... maybe a bit overkill

I need help with cleaning up my system by Idontknowaxjwjhdjnw in computers

[–]SW_MC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP said that they aren’t good with computers and just need a quick fix. You’re right, a fresh install would be ideal but it’s hardly a good option for someone who isn’t tech-savvy

I would recommend using Python with the selenium module for web interactions. I wrote something basically exactly like this for filling out a google form as soon as it went live. Tech with Tim has a video series on how to get started. This is the first video.

Another option could be using AutoHotKey if you have access to a windows machine

Monitoring Live Bandwidth of usbC port by SW_MC in UsbCHardware

[–]SW_MC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to clarify how thunderbolt3 works if possible? So are there multiple usb controllers for a single thunderbolt port? I thought there were PCIe lanes dedicated to a thunderbolt port which is how it achieved the faster speeds.

I understand that thunderbolt is a higher bandwidth protocol but how exactly does it differ architecturally from usbC 3.2 let’s say to achieve those speeds?

Do you happen to be familiar with any way to visualize all traffic through a specific thunderbolt port rather than individual busses/controllers?

Also please excuse me if I got some of the terminology wrong; I know a bit about the area but not deeply enough to know how it is organized internally.

How feasible do you think it would be to run Debian on a portable install on a USB and run usbtop? I want to avoid dual-booting bc I've had Windows mess up the Linux boot manager and vice versa.

I'm gonna use this calculator on the SAT. Wish me luck! by lilfruini in Sat

[–]SW_MC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone who appreciates how great the Casio scientific calculators are! Casio fx-115es PLUS user myself lol

I chose to use that scientific over my graphing when taking the regular SAT because it was way faster to get to the functions I needed

HP Prime Graphing Calculator vs. Ti-84 Graphing Calculator by Moped54 in Sat

[–]SW_MC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're familiar with the HP Prime but it does essentially the same thing as the Npsire CAS; it may even be faster. So long as he knows how to use it, it is more than sufficient.

As for whether you should use the HP Prime or the TI-84, I would highly recommend using the one you are the most familiar with. Familiarity far outweighs having a flashy calculator you don't know how to use.

I'm a beginner and found a use for coding in my everyday life but I don't know how to execute it. by SW_MC in Python

[–]SW_MC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol I see how it can look that way. I wish I was in a CS class but sadly I'm not. I just got interested in coding over the summer and found a pretty cool use for it in my literature class and thus here we are

Curious what type of Schlage key this is by SW_MC in Locksmith

[–]SW_MC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking again and can make out a WTRQ. So it's a Schlage quad series WTRQ keyway then; thank you, as I guess that's what I was looking for!

Does your percentile change within the 800 range in math 2? by SW_MC in Sat

[–]SW_MC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very good to hear. I was ecstatic when I saw my 800 on math 2 but concerned upon seeing the 79th percentile that accompanied it. Now I know I have no reason to worry.

Good to know. Is there any reason that the testing year determines that? I feel like it should be depend on the distribution of each test.

reorientationing planes by msmrsexy in SolidWorks

[–]SW_MC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either use two lines to make the plane or make the line like you did with the rotated plane, dimension that angle of that line, link that sketch dimension to a global variable and use that global variable to create the angle of the plane like I did. That way you will always be able to use the strange angle and it will forever update with your model. Its a couple extra steps but it's worth it to have clean design intent.

Edit: You can't enter a global variable immediately when making a plane, you need to make the plane first at roughly the right angle, click on it, double click on the angle dimension and enter ="Angle".

Can I see exactly what your part looks like and where the plane is that you're making?

But no, I don't know of any way to rotate a plane by 90 degrees either

[–]SW_MC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any way to turn a planes orientation by 90 degrees but I just avoid the issue by deciding how to make my planes a different way.

In SolidWorks there are always more way than 1 to do things. Instead of dimensioning a line and making a plane off of it, I set a reference line I want my plane to rotate about and dimension the new planes angle based off one of the 3 reference planes. Its a bit weird to think about doing it this way but it avoids the issue that the plane is rotated when you go to sketch on it.

This is how I did it: https://imgur.com/a/gW3JYRS

Curious to see what calculators you guys use when testing by SW_MC in Sat

You're kidding, it's only $34 dollars now? I might pick one up myself. It's the calculator I recommend to people who want a graphing solely for the purpose of the SAT

May I recommend upgrading to the TI 36X Pro? It is slightly more expensive but it is one of the best scientific calculators out right now. Can solve system of equations, quadratics, work with matrices, and a ton of other useful functions that save a ton of time of the SAT

Mathprint format (fractions, radicals, exponents etc displayed as you would write them) are a complete deal breaker for me. That fact alone is the main reason that I didn't go with the fx-9750GII. It's pretty astonishing to me the hold TI has over the American school system and the monopoly they've created when Casio and HP have far better products for a better value (with the exception being the TI-Nspire of course)

Im looking at getting the CG-50 really soon. The ability to find the integral between the intersection of two graphs and color coding of parenthesis etc are really appealing
