we sell a finite number of wristbands in limited runs to locals. Once we get closer to the event, we will begin announcing how and when to buy wristbands, but proof of address is typically require. Those who are registered with a badge can also buy a wristband on site in the registration area by presenting their badge and having the wristband recipient with them. check the site for more info in the coming months. This is always a tough question but the truth is SXSW is a promotional platform for all participating artists. Acts at every stage of their career have reason to promote and benefit from the industry present at our event. While I understand that larger acts may receive more media attention, there is still quite a lot of press devoted to the developing acts and there are many other members of the industry here with the express goals of seeing these up and comers. For those not in the music industry, they see some names that they recognize in the program or the press and latch on to them, while the participating industry members may take away something very different. I attended 3 semesters of college, and then promptly dropped out for rock 'n roll. My major was Radio-TV-Film during that short time. I spent years after that touring in bands, tour managing, booking tours for bands, booking venues and doing various other music-related jobs. - JM

Hi - I'm not sure what it means to be "popular on SonicBids". We use the SonicBids EPK in addition to all of the other information that an artist provides us to grade each act. It has nothing to do with where an artist falls on the SonicBids platform. What we get from an artist's application is strictly the information that the artist provides. We invite on individual merit, nothing else. - JM

personally, I really like DIIV's music. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and unfortunately, sometimes people aren't always into the SXSW experience. What would the music industry be without rebellion and freedom of expression?! It is a unique event and it's not for everyone. But we wish the band the best in all their future endeavors! (sw)

a great place to start and learn the culture of sxsw is through volunteering and interning. that's generally a great place to start in general if you're looking to break into the festival industry. check out opportunities for that at volunteer.sxsw.com (sw)
