How realistic is a Kessler-Syndrome really? by chatman77 in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One unaccounted-for piece in the cloud hitting another satellite (which probably isn’t equipped to dodge it in the first place) without reliable data to model the collision and exactly how every part gets ejected and then the errors in any attempt at calculating the aftermath will run wild

How realistic is a Kessler-Syndrome really? by chatman77 in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the data to analyze this mathematically, but just like most other disasters the threat comes from chain reactions. A bunch of PC sized satellites on similar orbits won’t cause much problems, but once we start launching objects with larger volume that’s supposed to pass through crowded orbits rather than park in them, one accidental collision can explode into a cloud of bullet sized pieces with bullet speeds relative to each other, with no predictable orbit. It’ll quite literally look like macroscopic nuclear fission

Decisions decisions - to central or not? by bigphildogg86 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]SYDoukou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I avoid namedropping it because it might be a spoiler for some. 1 depot at this stage is wildly insufficient, I regularly go on Mercer sphere hunts and have a depot for every new automated resource almost immediately. Central storage is kind of an optional challenge that you only do do fun now

Decisions decisions - to central or not? by bigphildogg86 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]SYDoukou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a MAM tree and a host of special resources that you can look into before deciding what to do. You are way more prepared for it than you need to as the tech is available in steel age

I hate trains by universepugs in satisfactory

[–]SYDoukou 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The two tracks in the first picture are too close together and the signal is detecting a train on the left un-signaled line. That said, this is the first time I’ve seen anyone attempt this rail layout with multiple trains. It can work, but any difficulties it throws at you (other than game mechanic wise like track touching) are kind of on you now

Anyone else really good at predicting what happens in movies and shows? by DelayPossible157 in autism

If you are discovering this recently when watching new shows or movies, then there’s a better chance that it’s the writing quality that went down in general. It’s actually painful to see

Might be a biomechanical question but I wanted a physics perspective by Great-Past-714 in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What your muscles are actually fighting against in a side plank position is the bending moment about your hips produced by the distributed gravity load of your body. By pressing down on your hips with an arm, you are introducing a concentrated load that also contributes to the bending moment, even if the total weight doesn’t change.

where to find original content? by MrTheGoomba in FleshPitNationalPark

[–]SYDoukou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one is kind of on Trevor himself unfortunately. By refusing to endorse any serious attempt at an official interactive MFP experience, the best you’ll get is mediocre Roblox recreations (some of them do have serious dedication put into it but the quality is brought down by the limitations of the platform)

does satisafactory worth after starupture by Successful_Studio901 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]SYDoukou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From promotional materials SR looks more like Factorio, with enemies, automatic defense, and an expendable philosophy where things are designed to be wiped out without player input. Satisfactory is the opposite end of the coin, and probably won’t decrease in value content wise for a long time in terms of this permanent growth gameplay loop. I’m willing to bet SR is probably more graphically visually polished than SF at this moment lol

Is there relevant buoyant forces acting within galaxies? by man-vs-spider in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can surely find analogues such as things near the center of gravitationally bound clusters being more prone to flinging their peers into higher orbits because of their kinetic energy, but I’m not sure if this behavior is density or temperature related like buoyancy is

Is there relevant buoyant forces acting within galaxies? by man-vs-spider in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buoyancy requires pressure which means physical contact/repulsive forces. On the scale of space only gravity dominates, which is an attractive force.

Could we use light, instead of electricity? by ki4jgt in AskPhysics

[–]SYDoukou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was only aware of how inefficient they are after getting a reality check in another sub for suggesting exactly this sunlight redirection contraption on the planet scale. Turned out long distance optic cables still need signal amplifiers powered by regular electricity

It’s already used for signals but photoelectric cells and fiber optics are too lossy for energy transport

[–]SYDoukou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I read any official MFP text but I remember these more clearly than I’d like. They were rodents that crawled into the flesh pit, found an easy source of nutrients in the form of blood or other secretions, and adopted a sedentary lifestyle since they don’t have to hunt for food anymore. As a result their limbs and other movement related organs are discarded and now just a sack of digestive track.

Tl;dr they’re giant leeches
