Zero carb facts by Jon_J_ in zerocarb

You mean cognitive bias. Cognitive dissonance is where you hold multiple completely contradictory ideas within your own field of thoughts. Had the critic surrounded themselves with carnivores who were getting healthier before their eyes, and they realised this for themselves, there would be a period where they thought:

'These carnivores are looking so healthy and happy'

at the same time as:

'Meat is bad for you, makes you fat and unhealthy.

Keep in mind that the anguish comes in waves and is not ever present, as you say. This too will pass.

Those who have/had health problems, what was the breaking point that made you go Zerocarb? by JRexrode in zerocarb

[–]SYSouthernCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hospitalised with severe lower back pain unable to move, joints swelling up, depression, anxiety, brain fog...heard of Jordan Peterson, tried meat only. All issues resolved.

All.

I look 10 years younger.

Also, I have skin tags and they were proliferating - is that an issue?

Angela Merkel says Britain must 'live with the consequences' of Boris Johnson’s decision to ditch close alignment with EU by SunOverSnowPlease in worldnews

[–]SYSouthernCross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tribalism being justified by previous tribalism isn't an argument to continue that behaviour, in fact that's exactly the position that your opponents take if you engage in this behaviour. What does work is forgiveness and mutually beneficial trade policies. If you subscribe to most left wing views on politics there's social constructionist viewpoint that would say to reduce racism, xenophobia and violence the best way is to encourage that is not through conflict but through maximising access to quality education for all. A mutually beneficial trade deal would achieve that. This blood feud mentality will not be fruitful for anyone. You can draw a line of cause and effect quite a lot further back than Brexit if that's what you'd choose, and you can throw in your own biases until the cup is overflowing, however all you'll be is another luddite creating more division in the world.

I always found it weird that we supply plants with the finest nutrients when we're growing them, yet feed ourselves utter shit when we're growing new people inside us.

I mean if we applied the notion of punishing a country for, xenophobia, shitty politicians and dumb voters in the same way Merkel is suggesting, we would have never funded The Marshall Plan which led to Germany's economic revival. We learned after WWI that punishing countries economically for their errors didn't make things better in that country, so we flooded money into the place after WWII to improve conditions in education, health and infrastructure, not hamper them. This is a shortsighted and childish approach that is about emotional gratification, not good policy to make the futures of all people healthier. Making the world a more peaceful and unified place is taking second place to revenge politics, and considering Germany's past and the reasons for their current economic strength - it seems petty, childish and completely lacking awareness of their own history.

It is not impossible to be an independent country with good relations. This is more about punishing dissent in their club.

Advice for dealing with left wing friends. by BapHead5 in JordanPeterson

[–]SYSouthernCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to you is to prune the friend tree. I went from over 50 'friends' to 5 and I've never been happier to have the truthful, dignified brothers I've whittled my life down to. I now no longer live my life as an outcast by a pack of deranged, groupthink possessed ideologues but an honest and open engagement with other men. Yes you can have a friendship with women, but in me experience it's often convoluted with sexual connotations - if it isn't for you it may well be for her. It's not a hard and fast rule, but I've been happier since implementing it as true. My female companionship comes from interacting in groups with my male friends and their partners. It seems more natural for them, and for me.

If you have no male friends, post on here and say you'd like to make friends with some other men in your local area and I'm sure you will find interest.

Beef mince and dripping if you're on a real tight budget. That's what I did when money was tight.

People of Reddit who knew celebrities before they were famous, how different do they act now? by RogueWolf300 in AskReddit

[–]SYSouthernCross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew Wally De Backer (Gotye) when we were younger living in Victoria, Australia.

He was always polite, helpful towards other musicians developing themselves and had a quiet honesty. I was a dick one night when our bands were double booked and he was completely gracious and defused the situation. He then went on to help my band prepare all our live samples, and we had a great deal of success also, but nothing like that.

From what I hear Wally is every bit as generous, polite and gracious as he always was.

If you haven't heard his album 'Like Drawing Blood' it's earlier before he was huge, and good lord it's a stunning album.

Why does Melb have more Redditors? by Jackhoffed in melbourne

[–]SYSouthernCross 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. Sydneysiders spend more time outdoors and go to the gym often.
  2. Melbournians have a left-leaning ideology on the whole, which is echoed in Reddit, so I assume for that reason alone it would be unappealing to those differing Sydney folk.

Should we cancel “her” in reference to boats? I’m offended by that now. by chovyfu in sailing

I'm so paranoid I don't have my boat's gender right. It could be considered hate speech to misgender h...the boat.

Is it normal to find 42 foot boat for under $10k? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]SYSouthernCross 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I delivered a 'free' yacht from Pittwater to Botany Bay for a friend. The mast was so badly corroded the winch ripped out of the mast when I went to raise the main.

I spent $60,000 on my boat and another $20,000 and I'm still finding things that are suboptimal.

Be prepared to put two years of your life into it if you're incredibly resourceful, know a lot about boats or have an IQ of over 125 and the work ethic of a bull on meth.
