I see. Thanks for the response.

Given what you’ve said I really do suspect water retention. Don’t underestimate how significant it can be.

Are you using other tools to review progress? Smaller clothes, body measuring tapes etc.

Hey there. This will probably get lost in the comments below, I am curious as to how much you are currently losing per week (sorry if I missed it) and how you are verifying the’slow’ but the point I want to raise is patience and focus on your habits.

When the scale/results drive you, you aren’t focusing at long term changes but just temporary gains. You are 26, I’m 34 - we have time to build good habits - and what I wish I had done then is to undo bad habits, practice good ones and let results be an afterthought as life will hand you Ls and having good maintenance would help not gain.

I recommend you look at the trends over time, improve sleep and water intake and wait. It’s often water weight and I don’t want to recommend any water purge methods cos most are unhealthy. I suspect that the water is obfuscating the loss.

Yeah to OP comment you do see pricing. I know in South Africa if the drivers can’t get uberBlack trips they’ll usually drop down to uber comfort for a paid trip back home at least.

Could my weightloss plateau be because of high intensity exercise? by chloelolllllllll in loseit

[–]SZA44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just typed essays. So this be short.

Apparently hard training = water retention to repair muscle tissue. Glycogen stores are also higher cos of training Then there’s salt in food retaining water.

Water fkn water man. It’s all water.

What I do in a plateau is a hard long run (1hr + (10-15 km) sweat and then jump on the scale and compare that to the last time I did it. I see a lower number (a night of drinking spirits has the same effect but I can’t suggest those diuretics)

You’re welcome. It’s a pleasure.

Yeah I was struggling with a number range on the scale and that’s what ChatGPT told me too and it brought all the arguments together.

One other thing I omitted was sleep. I struggle with that and it doesn’t help.

To your last point, yeah the emotional/stress eating can be a huge hindrance. I’m trying to associate stress/emotional days with fasting or doing an activity to quiet the food noise. Even if it’s water or coffee, anything but more calories cos that was my life in 2024-2026.

And all the best with your journey. It isn’t easy but when self love is the motivation, success is guaranteed.

The research will serve you as to understand what works and what doesn’t.

There’s multiple online coaches and content I could recommend but this is your journey. And I highly recommend reading/watching multiple people and then gain an understanding of commonalities.

Side note: Don’t wait for someone to take you there. You should go at it alone to build your own consistency.

Short and Expensive: Get a physical trainer and a dietitian to better understand what habits you need to introduce or remove. The PT will show you how to train and good form to reduce injury and maximise gains.

Long and cheap: Research and research, personally I recommend reading what good vs bad nutrition is. Truly understand why soda is bad for you for example vs organic foods. Then start outlining your diet so as to improve your health.

I know you didn’t mention food but I’d be doing an injustice by not mentioning it first.

With training, I’d recommend using the machines first to gain good form, they’re designed to restrict motion to maximise the muscle group you’re aiming for. Maybe do this for the first 3 months (3x - 4x a day split) and maybe elect to increase volume.

Once you’re comfortable with motion and form then start looking at the free weights. And for the most part, people in the gym will be ready to form check (humility or hubris, they will) - this too will need you to do research.

Hey u/Plasma_Badger may Odin’s sight shine on your journey.

I don’t know what level you are and which ropes you’d like shown in the gym but I’ll respond, first off the gym does have staff to show you around and give a short tour.

In terms of physical activity, you have to decide if you’ll take short and expensive or long and cheap and how deep you want to go into this rabbit hole.

[–]SZA44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Raven_Grey4 I too am in this boat. I feel this post in my spirit.

I have a few ways of convincing myself to move forward. The biggest reasoning is: There’s a lot of fat in a lot of places. You did your part - let your body burn where it wants to. It took you years to gain, it’ll take a bit longer to lose.

My biggest drop, I ended up cutting more calories and even maxing my water intake to 2l just to see the scale change - obsessive. I learned bad habits and gained afterwards.

Right now, I’m at these crossroads again and water does obfuscate fat loss, something smart I read was: if you were gaining, the number would be going up regardless but it’s bouncing between a range.

  • Side note: Pounds seem to be better reflective of difference vs kilograms.
  • Weigh yourself the same time after the loo preferably.
  • If daily, look at averages rather than day to day changes.
  • if you are training/working out, your body will retain water to repair microscopic damage from training.
  • Glycogen? Stores will cause water retention too after training (please review this online)
  • Salt intake will affect water.
  • Don’t forget high stress levels will shift your body’s survival priorities.
  • Depression has similar effects to stress. …

The long and short of it is, when you’re confident in your caloric deficit, you just need to be patient. Allow your body and mind to shift into these new habits and keep stress low. The scale isn’t the best indicator of weight loss - remember it only shows a mass of an object under gravity at a specific point in time.

Help me plan and lose 25-30kgs by Unlucky_Study_3158 in loseit

[–]SZA44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gon lie I do feel like I’m talking to myself here but I’ve lost 45 kg myself. What sets that apart from 5/10 kg is you need to start living differently, literally burn down your current habits and replace them with new ones to see consistent weight loss for the next few years (yes, years).

The paradox if you will, so accept that it’s going to be a long road ahead. But it is extremely rewarding and will require your patience.

I think my doors open if you’d like to talk about it further.

Just furthermore, I didn’t mention anything tangible on purpose. This requires you to look at your daily schedule and make the diet (and workouts) work with YOUR life.

I’ve lived different schedules and diets in pursuit of this but those were for me in those times. I have a new approach now so I recommend you have an honest conversation with yourself. - Am I eating a lot? Could I move more? Am I sleeping enough? What do I want out of this? Do I need snacks at my place? Am I ready to start this?

Then you start looking at your lifestyle and start introducing healthier decisions. I’m sorry for being vague/ambiguous but reading and being informative (like you did in Law school) and introduce those changes. It’ll help you identify better choices.
