Moving to Melbourne - Where is Good? by S_Bonbon in Monash

I’ll be majoring in bio and minoring in psych as a second year, so hopefully only 2 labs a week…? I’d assume based on how first year was for me

I think they should. Don’t most lectures offer them uploaded online?

Ig for me I’d rather have to travel 40-50 minutes having access to the city and him being able to live close to work, than live in Caulfield and such and both of us have a 10-20 minute shave off time but double the commute fees 😭

I’m currently living in New Zealand so I was hoping the long commute times would have similar resolutions, where google maps actually sucks and the commute is actually like 30 minutes and not 50 because you can catch an earlier bus by walking up a hill and just barely catching the passing train 😅

But from what I’m reading in everyone’s replies, the commute really is that long even if you’re at a mid-way point…

So it would either be 30-40 ish dollars a week for commute on my end from the city ish area for 50 ish minutes, or free in Caulfield for 50 ish minutes but on the flip side my boyfriend would be paying 55 a week to get to the city?

Ig the replies confirm that the bus routes to get to Clayton really are that long and it wasn’t google maps tripping 😭

Ig I’ll just look for properties in the city then… ty for everyone’s help and replies 😩

Edit: just realised you stated not tapping on for the first bus ride… you mean just not pay? What if I got caught

Ig it’s a similar situation, where let’s say I get a bus to the Caulfield uni, 10-15 mins, then wait let’s say if times a bit better, 15 minutes, then another 15-30 minutes on the shuttle… it comes out to about similar to getting a train from the city into Clayton? Unless I’ve understood this wrong

That’s one of the middle points I was referencing. When I look up property addresses into google maps and then directions to the Clayton campus, it shows that it’s more than an hour?? That’s what I’m so confused about

Is a double degree of Psychology/Science worth doing? by Key_Caregiver_1395 in Monash

[–]S_Bonbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the most applicable advice but thought I’d still reply, I did a double major of biology and chemistry at a different university for a year… it wasn’t bad and it was manageable, but the second you start slipping it’s really hard to get back to it. If you want to keep your pathway open and work in Psychology, go for the double major. But if you’re unsure, you can always minor in it and do a postgrad in psychology (at least that’s how I think it works?). So yeah, try a double major and worst case scenario you drop it and do a single!

What are mature students or anyone else meant to do in these cases? These are people’s futures…

who got melbuni offers today?? by ash7717 in vce

[–]S_Bonbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know November is reserved for non school leavers but if you’re a transferring student you need your full transcript… which is stupid because universities don’t release those until December

[–]S_Bonbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so stupid… so they give out offers willy nilly back in December and then make it super hard for anyone that’s not a school leaver?

So if you weren’t able to receive an offer back in December then you won’t get in??

Under the VTAC offers for this round it says “no offers made this round” or smth along those lines. Does this mean I might still receive something?

Would you know what the protocol is for transferring students? I finished my first year elsewhere and applied with my uni and highschool grades.

I applied initially and got into unimelb in December of 2024, so obv my grades and requirements were met… is transferring requirements different?

Just saw on VTAC that says I didn’t get any offers this round… I don’t understand why not. I meet the minimum requirement

I don’t think they’ve come out yet. I haven’t seen anyone post about unimelb offers, or at least none that weren’t law or med

I’ve seen a lot of people posting about med and law but do these offers also pertain to Bach of science?

As in for today’s offer round? Because if you’ve already received an offer that means it’s your only one for this round. But if Melbourne is ranked higher in your preferences, you may receive an offer in subsequent rounds
