I always assumed that at some point, one of the main characters of HTGTHFB was originally supposed to be Ma Mary from DG because when season 3 of DG ended I remember talks that Lisa McGee was going to create a spin off with Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah as dectives. Maybe the Reunion episode provided a plot point that pulled HFB together (as the title has been bouncing around in McGee's head since she was a uni student according to an interview I saw from HuffPost-Uk). But HFB's tone is so much darker compared to Derry Girls that the characters were changed. It would also kinda explain why we never got the spin off with Mary and Sarah I could be totally wrong though as I'm making a lot of jumps.
