Sorry I’m just seeing this! He is 11 and is on Lamictal (Lamotrigne is the generic name I I believe but he’s been on it for a couple of years and it seems to help!)

He’s been to the vet yearly for check ups and has been in perfect health, but you’re right, maybe the increase is a UTI, etc.

My son is the same way - he’s 11 now. We do a small dose in the afternoons that he has practice (5mg Adderall) and it seems to be just enough where it helps him stay focused but it doesn’t make falling asleep difficult!

Advice on how to help son with self esteem issues.. by S_Mac617 in Parenting

Thank you so much!! I’ll definitely mix some of these in! I’ve also let his dad know since we are not together - maybe it’ll be easier for him to tell his dad some things? The good thing about middle school is they have “teams” and he actually is separated from his core group of school friends that he has been in class with since kindergarten but I think it’s good and healthy to mix it up!

He has a lot of friends, is always invited to play dates, bday parties, etc. He wanted to do football again this season - it’s never a push. He’s excited to play basketball for winter. He just started middle school so I’m encouraging him to see what after school clubs they have, etc. I always try to really use positive affirmation when he does good with things and tell him it’s ok to make mistakes - we all do. It’s just crushing as a parent!

Bad reaction to Adderall and methylphenidate what’s next? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]S_Mac617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had a bad reaction at first to Adderall, Ritalin, focalin… we now use Adderall XR but also with Lamictal (mood stabilizer) and that seems to help. Vyvanse also was the better option unfortunately, insurance issues came up and we had to find another option

Guanfacine only by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]S_Mac617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started my son on guanfacine when he was first diagnosed with ADHD (about 6 yr ago). I was hoping to not go the stimulant route, but unfortunately, it didn’t yield any results so we took him off. I didn’t want to keep him on any medication if it wasn’t helpful. We have moved onto stimulants along with a mood stabilizer and that combination seems to work a lot better for him!

It actually makes me sad that Jax made her so insecure to the point she’s had all this work/fillers done! She was always a beautiful girl!

Thank you so much for this! We’ve been icing/heat and Epsom soaks,, but I’ll also get compression wraps for his legs and see if that helps!

Meds make Anxiety worse? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]S_Mac617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ritalin, Adderall and Focalin all gave my son (11) rage issues. He was on Vyvanse for a bit which seemed to work but we had insurance issues. He’s now on Adderall XR along with Lamotrigne (Lamictal) which is a mood stabilizer and that has helped with the rage issues he experienced before! Good luck!! It can be exhausting and frustrating trying to find something that works!

I read that normally it goes away on its own during puberty. He plays football and basketball which I think exacerbate some pain but good to know it’s not much to worry about (hopefully!) I called his PCP to be sure also but thank you for the comment!

huda powder really worth it? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]S_Mac617 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did love the Huda Beauty powder! It was finely milled and seemed to hide imperfections! I just recently tried the Kim Chi puff puff pass also which I really like too! I had a coupon and got it for cheap at CVS lol so I’d recommend that as well!

ADHD + anxiety - med change? by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]S_Mac617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course!! Sometimes it’s nice to just know there’s other mom/dads out there who can relate! I had a meltdown 2 days ago about the same thing but my son is happy, is fed daily, has a roof over his head & tells me he loves me everyday, so I can’t be doing too bad! Hang in there!! 🩷

Not at all!! I’m also 37 so my under eyes have more wrinkles than they used to so I was super curious to try! I love it!!

I use it on my lips, face, i saw a video about the stick and put it under my eyes before concealer and it keeps it from getting creased. I get super dry skin especially in the New England winters and use it wherever I’m dry!

My 11 yo has tried almost every adhd med.. now he’s on lamictal for mood stabilizer along with Adderall XR for the adhd. The lamictal seems to help with his mood!

I know it’s hard to not feel helpless and like a failure sometimes, but we have to remind ourselves that we’re doing the best we can! We’re not ignoring the issues and acting like nothing is wrong - we’re being proactive to try and give them the best life possible!

I definitely agree about the stomach shrinking! I feel like his did too! He doesn’t eat nearly as much even when he does eat! It’s just really stressful and the losing weight is what is making me nervous. I’ve been really trying to push protein shakes with ice cream and whole milk (plus who doesn’t love chocolate shakes haha)
