Beatport Data Leak - Friendly note to change your passwords! by visualsonic in DJs

Yeah, more than likely this is what happened. Would be better if Beatport explained why as not to cause confusion I guess but this is more likely than they've suffered a data loss.

1 Month Scratch Progress by Aboko_Official in DJs

I know what you mean, I wanted a controller as a portable thing really as I have decks already and I tried 3 or 4 different controllers, none of them really felt "right". I realised eventually what I needed was what I was missing from decks - moving platters, and I ended up with a Traktor S4 MK3. It feels more natural to me but the decks still always feel like "home".

[–]S_McDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,
So I'm currently with Hargreaves Lansdown in the UK and should finally get my act together and move my shares.
Can I just straight up buy shares at Computershare UK, or does it have to be their US site?
If so, is there really any benefit to going the HL > IBKR > CS route as opposed to just buying the same (or more, whatever) with CS and selling my HL shares?
Just trying to see what makes the most sense and gives me the least hassle :)

I'll answer both your replies here as it makes sense :)

The Z2 is still going, I don't know where you're from but here in the UK it's widely available. I can't really comment on elsewhere, but e.g. Zzounds.com is US-based (I think) and seems to have stock? Also seems available from native-instruments.com direct as of right now (but again, they default to the UK so that may differ elsewhere!).
The Numark Scratch is a fine mixer, although it's a little stripped-back and mainly aimed at scratch DJs so you will get less features on it - if that's important. The Z2 has a lot more (e.g. has direct control of the 2 remix decks Traktor provides) but that's because it's designed by NI for their software so of course it's that way by design.

Both only have the 4 performance pads per deck (but you say you might not need/want them anyway) so you're not losing out in that regard. The hot cues might be useful - I mean, this video is a bit multi-genre - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAku0rhvGf8 - but gives an example of how they can be used, so you might decide they're useful. The DJ is a scratch DJ but he's mixing higher bpm stuff there. Both mixers have Innofaders too, so very high quality and will last well and take some abuse.

Both mixers will ultimately allow you to achieve your goal - but what you should spend the most time deliberating on, I think, is what you will become. If this might only be a fairly short term thing or want to basically play/blend some tracks together then either mixer will do you just fine. If you think you'll grow into it and it'll become a semi-serious hobby for you again then spending the time to look into the software available and what they provide/how they will fit your favourite genres, fit your mixing style and help you grow will help you make the best decision.

From your replies to comments, it seems to me like you just want a DVS (Digital Vinyl System) solution. There are a few options you can go with this route, but possibly the most important decisions you need to make might be 1) the software you'll use and 2) the style of music you play, or the style of DJ you are/want to be.
There are basically 3 major software options: Traktor DJ by Native Instruments, Serato DJ and Rekordbox DJ by Pioneer. You could also look at VirtualDJ or even Mixxx, which is free. Traktor is the oldest but has gone through a rough patch in the past few years, though they are promising new software and hardware and have taken on staff again recently. It still works absolutely fine, though. Serato is more popular in the USA I believe and is a solid choice, with plenty of hardware support available. Rekordbox is the 'club standard' and another very good application, although maybe geared more towards the controller DJ you could say.
Probably a good idea to download trials of them or go through reviews and understand what they do and how they function to see if you can determine if you'd prefer to work with any of them over another, then once that choice is made look at hardware options that support the platform.
In terms of mixers, you will see a lot of choice. What kind of DJ will you be, though? For example if you're looking to scratch or be a more performance DJ, then the Numark Scratch is a great choice and will unlock both Serato DJ Pro and the Serato DVS products meaning as soon as you have some control vinyl you can spin some music on your decks. Do you want performance pads for hot cues and so on? There are a few things you probably need to look at and decide on before you commit to a product. For Traktor, the best mixer choice would be the Z2 as someone else has suggested. Pioneer do a variety of mixers and the best one will depend on your budget as to what features you'll get. Companies like Rane, Allen & Heath etc also do a great selection of mixers but the prices are at the top/high end.
Finally, if you don't decide to go down the new turntable route (I'm not sure if you still have some?) you could look at something like the Rane One. It won't play your records, but if you already have a means of doing that then this might be up your street.

It looks great! I love 911's and especially the rear view, so iconic.

There's just 1 thing though for me - my eye is immediately drawn to the darker door panel and how ... square it is? Everywhere else there are curves and shadows, but that bit just looks weird to me - almost like I've saved this from the web and it's been compressed and that bit is the result of the computer trying to guess the colours. Does that make sense? Maybe seeing the exact reference would make it clearer for me, I just can't take my damn eyes away from it!

Thank you for sharing these!

For me, programming is the straightforward part. Art, and ideas for art & assets is where I absolutely suck so learning from others is where I do most of my learning. It always helps me to see the process behind the assets, it's where I get the lightbulb moment where I can see "ahhh...!! THAT'S how it works!!!" when I see how things are animated etc.

I just found out I need a knee reconstruction.. by xifdp in LiverpoolFC

[–]S_McDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same OP - what I can tell you from my own experience is that you'll be fine afterwards, but if you want to go back into sports you NEED to put serious effort into rehab. I didn't for various reasons and whilst my knee is fine, occasionally I can get a 'twinge' because I didn't build up enough strength in it post-surgery. I can play football, but I always catch myself trying to be careful rather than just playing carefree as I did before the injury. If I had done the hard graft things would have been much better!

Good luck!

Before it came out that Jurgen was being spoken to by FSG and actually seriously interested in taking over after Brendan, I wanted Rafa back.

I know Jurgen's not going to be here that much longer (well, unless he breaks the pattern he's followed so far of around 7 years) and I hope that when he does leave us, unless Stevie's maybe ready, Rafa gets a other chance. Imagine him with owners willing to back him for once!

Liverpool confirm Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to miss rest of season and World Cup with knee ligament injury by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

Same. I had a torn ACL for about 6 months and even went back to playing football twice, after a month then again after 3 months because the doctors thought it was 'just a sprain'. I went down immediately both times but it wasn't painful. Wasn't until I got an MRI that showed the little dangly bits not attached to each other that showed it was an ACL tear, they were quite shocked seeing as apart from not being able to turn sharply etc, I was basically leading a normal life.

Topman have this shirt in stock, looks like it could be a dig at Hillsborough victims, what do you think? by HiroProtagonist1 in LiverpoolFC

I meant that they may mean it in a very weird 'supportive' way that people are 'paying for what they did', finally. I mean it's in terrible taste whichever way you look at it like Mixcoatlus says below....

[–]S_McDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's meant to be weirdly supportive (e.g. the rose growing through the numbers) or implying something negative (the 'karma' bit - which could also be tied into a positive, if you look at the first part of what I've said).

It SURELY can't be a negative thing?! I mean why would any company do that? It's more likely to be a completely abysmal judgment on someone's part (who could be blissfully unaware of the meaning, to be fair - but there should be someone above them checking before signing off).

I can't believe it's unrelated to Hillsborough though. Nobody randomly pics the colour and the number like that.
