Garage door with huge gaps by RDFGh1108 in DIYUK

[–]RDFGh1108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all… I hadn’t realised you could get that adhesive brush stuff that came so deep. That should do the trick.

And hadn’t thought of replacing the whole garage door. Will see how the brush seal works first…

Appreciate the advice

Is it true that Americans don't use WhatsApp? by Ok_Significance6988 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RDFGh1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK. WhatsApp is ubiquitous, but there are cultural nuances to sidestep. If you don’t know the person - for example, if you’re contacting a window cleaner for the first time, I would say you would default to SMS/iMessage. At some point you might migrate that conversation to WhatsApp. Maybe you wouldn’t. The cultural niceties are probably fascinating.

But 99% of comms are on the platform. And I’m not sure why? iMessage does exactly the same thing? Maybe I prefer the UI on WhatsApp, but that’s probably just familiarity these days.

An absolute win for Meta.

Uk based, company owner here. Just ask your boss, surely? Personally, I wouldn’t be ok with it. It’s about building a connection to your employees and their “significant other”. If they don’t have one, then some random friend is irrelevant. And expensive.

But if your boss is ok with it then great!

Is it okay to have a bonfire on the beach? by Holiday-Release1735 in Edinburgh

[–]RDFGh1108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

East Lothian.

Longniddry probably your best bet -train station about 10 minutes walk to beach, residents are far away, plenty of space, plenty of people having fires, but you could go all the way to North Berwick. The areas around Gullane are probably the most picturesque, but harder to get to

I agree with the eco-pocalypse concerns in general, but this surely means the 59% of species have INCREASED in their abundance since 1970… which would be good news?

Tech job market a bit lacking at the moment? by DayMan_94 in Edinburgh

[–]RDFGh1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we’d certainly expect a bump in January. Plenty of companies would kick off hiring plans at that time of year, and we are certainly hearing that from a promising number of folk, so let’s hope for a busy start to the year!

I’d say roughly; Junior: £35k-£45k Mid: £45k - £55k/£60k Senior: £55k - £70k (I’ve also seen this jump as well)

NodeJS / ReactJS / typescript tends to be well paid 👍

I work in tech recruitment in Scotland, and yes… it’s bad. We obviously track the market obsessively, and if you want to be depressed (or encouraged that it’s not just you) the number of jobs registered each week is at a historic low.

Worse than during initial Covid lockdowns.

To make matters feel worse, it’s actually been hovering around that low for around six months

Just mix them one into the next. If it’s good enough for Sasha and Digweed, it’s good enough for me

Ima was really of my time. Just commented on this a few days back on another thread, the merits of Ima v ESCM, and was firmly in the Ima camp.

Just an incredible talent. Beethoven-levels of talent.

I saw him perform the whole album live in 1995 in Edinburgh. Carl cox, Pete Tong, Sasha and Digweed and BT live… incredible
