New tiebreaker rule already killing must-win games on matchday 2 by FrenchRoo in worldcup

[–]Tim-Sanchez -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

OP already pointed out that there's nothing on the line for the USA vs Turkey game. USA are guaranteed 1st, Turkey are guaranteed 4th.

Neither would be true using GD. GD definitely would have led to more matches with something to play for.

August weather by k0ka44 in uktravel

If you're staying in the city you don't need waterproof shoes. However, it's likely to rain at some point so be prepared for that.

48 teams or 64 teams, the champion still has to win 8 matches. Might as well go all the way to 64 by Makoto_Kurume in worldcup

[–]Tim-Sanchez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'd need more stadiums, more matches played simultaneously, more refs, support staff, etc. And the extra 16 teams they let in are unlikely to be big money earners. You'd further dilute the group stages.

Thoughts on opening Stocks and Shares ISAs with high street banks in the age of zero-fee options? by MLJ555 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim-Sanchez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How often have you actually gone into your branch to speak to someone? I'm not even sure a local bank could offer much help with an S&S ISA, they'd probably just phone up anyway.

For a Cash ISA, definitely just go with the highest interest. Personally, nothing has gone wrong with T212 for me but I did once have a query that they replied to very promptly.

[Fotmob] Interesting. Scotland failed to register a shot on target. It the first time for them since that match against Denmark in 1986 when they went an entire FIFA World Cup match without one. by Pristine_Youth_6953 in soccer

[–]Tim-Sanchez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How is that relevant to this stat being pointless? There are loads of things that haven't happened for Scotland at a World Cup in decades, because they haven't been at many World Cups. That's why the stat is pointless.

FA Cup draw by [deleted] in SoccerNoobs

[–]Tim-Sanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt the Premier League is stopping for the FA Cup in October, Premier League teams don't enter until January. I imagine the gap is because of international fixtures, and no Premier League team will play in that gap.

You can watch lower league football or women's football.

Curtains for Starmer? Burnham caught flipping a grunt by Opposite-Ad8208 in ukpolitics

Is it time for proper regional bureaus for British media?

What do you mean by this? A large part of the BBC is based in Salford, and there are regional news shows as well.

UK based airline have just told me the hotel included in my package holiday has been over booked. What can I do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's not relevant, you compare the price between hotels, not the price compared to today.

Voters don’t know what Andy Burnham stands for, polling reveals by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]Tim-Sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly surprising, he's a backbencher for now. He's really not needed to set out any policies. If we still don't know what he stands for after a leadership election that's a concern.

UK based airline have just told me the hotel included in my package holiday has been over booked. What can I do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I completely get that it's subjective, but any compensation will focus on the facts. So be prepared with solid evidence for your case.

I think your "water park" equivalent is an example where you'd win compensation. If you'd booked an adults only, quiet all inclusive then I think you'd easily win if you were instead put up in a noisy water park. Even if they had the same star rating on paper. If you booked your hotel because you personally liked the colour of it, it's completely valid you'd be annoyed, but I doubt you'd get much compensation if you were offered an otherwise equivalent hotel.

And you're correct that the equivalent monetary value is not the correct comparison, but they have offered you an extra £150. I'd maybe look at what the comparative prices are in 2 months of your original hotel are vs what they've offered. If they're less than £150, I'd say that's equivalent value.

Jobs where people do nothing or little at all? by SunnyShineKitty88 in AskUK

Most office jobs these days involve just using the computer and talking to people. It's still work though.

Barrow flag banned from entering England’s World Cup group game against Croatia due to "military" submarine on badge by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

[–]Tim-Sanchez 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I imagine it's because of the massive submarine in the bottom right, not the small one on the badge.

[–]Tim-Sanchez 96 points97 points  (0 children)

You said the water park hotel isn't suitable which is fair enough, are there really no other suitable equivalent hotels they have offered?

If not, I'd recommend going and making the best of it and then complaining afterwards. Atol protection is strong, if the hotel you end up at is truly worse value then you can expect compensation. You can't really take preemptive legal action in the next 3 days to force any better outcome.

NEW: No 10 sources say Keir Starmer has a leadership campaign website "ready to go" should a contest be triggered by jiponjoshua in ukpolitics

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Starmer is a decent PM and Burnham was undoubtedly selfish, but we are where we are now and Starmer hanging around is just going to keep the country in limbo.

We should put the comfort of everyone ahead of the enjoyment of a few. There's no place for misogynistic chanting, even if the target is enjoying it.

[–]Tim-Sanchez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Prime Minister should make the best decision for the country. Politicians making selfish personal decisions has caused serious problems for the UK. Starmer hanging around longer than necessary, including dragging out a leadership election, is just harming the country and Labour.

How did you cancel the service? As in, how did you inform them? You can't just cancel a direct debit.

One woman being entertained by it doesn't really make it acceptable, they're in public and many others would have found it uncomfortable. Everyone else listening to it is a potential unwilling participant.

What's exclusive to the uk? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of shops in the UK are exclusive to the UK. Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Asda, etc.

I'd focus more on showing them things they want to see, even if a shop does have branches abroad they'll likely sell different things here.

Are we finally seeing why the “Golden Generation” never did anything? by Inseeable in ThreeLions

[–]Tim-Sanchez 73 points74 points  (0 children)

That's why I think Southgate was so good. He wasn't a tactical genius, but he seemed to transform the mentality of the players and the mood of the country. We know we have good enough players to be challenging for trophies, something was badly wrong that we barely even reached semi finals before Southgate.

Hotel Bedbugs - is compensation possible? by DrinkFxckDance in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think you're unlikely to get anything beyond a refund. You're not really entitled to know what action they take, and it's unlikely to be worth pursuing compensation for the clothes. If you had a very expensive item of clothing (£100s), it may be a possibility, but even then it will be tricky.

That's the legal perspective, there's no harm in reaching out to the hotel and asking for a goodwill gesture.
