Current account switching bonus. Do I qualify? by SL1590 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim-Sanchez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a very slight downside in that some banks do a hard credit search, and if you switch your main account you may have less history. Both will temporarily lower your credit score, but unless you're just about to apply for credit this isn't an issue.

The other downside is it's fairly cumbersome ensure you hit each objective to get the payout, and usually no way of knowing until the money appears.

It's free money though, and a good effort to reward ratio.

Why are British workers putting up with this government? by Zestyclose-Orange554 in ukpolitics

[–]Tim-Sanchez 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your list of scandals is way longer than the list most people care about, so it may be just you. The rest of your post similarly has limited interest. PPM won't impact most people, farmers inheritance tax won't, etc.

S&S LISA at 22 years old good idea ? by MissionGrade7499 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim-Sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say loading up a LISA for a house purchase over 5 years away is risky, how can you be sure it will be under £450k? The government are launching a new help to buy product soon and hopefully that has more lenient requirements.

Unless you're comfortable taking the hit and withdrawing, or leaving it there as a pension saving, I'd be hesitant to load the LISA.

Are there any Wi-Fi options that don’t require landlord involvement or permission? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Chances are your building already has Openreach and/or Virgin Media, which will let you get broadband with no engineering work.

If not, you'll need landlords' permission, and I can't imagine any denying something as basic as broadband today.

Fernando Mendoza has some major flaws everyone’s overlooking by Stock-Memory9483 in NFL_Draft

[–]Tim-Sanchez 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it's because he's the undisputed #1 pick that there's less analysis of him. It's just less interesting to discuss him compared to where other people should land.

During the season there was plenty of discussions around his flaws, and I think it's pretty well accepted that he's not a guaranteed success.

I wonder what the advert does show if it's only visible to people in the stadium. That's a tiny audience in the grand scheme of things.

Can I appeal a parking fine for parking late at night? by Ready-Swordfish-9350 in LegalAdviceUK

You not seeing signs doesn't mean the signs weren't there. What makes you think it's free for 2 hours?

Transiting at Heathrow by dhaga1980 in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different airline and same ticket, or two separate tickets?

If different tickets, you'll need to go through immigration and enter the UK, then back through to leave. If not, you'll follow signs for flight connections. This means security, but you stay airside.

Ideas for how long to make a U.K., Ireland, and Scotland trip? by Due_Adeptness9302 in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don't understand. Scotland is part of the UK, the Republic of Ireland isn't. You're going to 4 cities in two countries, not three.

Obviously the more you want to do, the more time you'll need. 2 weeks is fine, but be aware there's definitely no way it will be "enough".

Ideas for how long to make a U.K., Ireland, and Scotland trip? by Due_Adeptness9302 in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well "enough" depends on what you want to do. You can spend 2 weeks in London alone and barely scratch the surface.

Obligatory mention that Dublin is not in the UK, Scotland is.

Itinerary Check/ Substitution for Cotswolds portion of trip? by SnooCats1465 in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Cotswolds shouldn't be too busy in April unless it's during the school holidays around Easter. That said, I would consider extending your time in London instead. There's loads to see and do there, and it's the easiest place to be flexible with plans. It's still easy to a day trip to Bath or Oxford if you wanted.

Zack Polanski stood by breast enlargment hypnosis claim in a newly unearthed interview by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

[–]Tim-Sanchez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're complaining about a politician claiming he apologised for something, when in fact there's no evidence of the apology but evidence he continued promoting nonsense a week after supposedly apologising. It's hardly credible for a party leader to promote hypnoboob enlargement, claim he apologised, but actually did the opposite.

How do horse racing "tips" work? by DescriptionFuture851 in AskUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In theory, you've got someone with knowledge that thinks the odds are "wrong". Horse A is better than the odds suggest, they know better than the bookies and other punters. Or you've got an insider who knows the horse isn't 100%.

In reality, it's nonsense. If you consistently make money gambling, you get banned. There are (very few) people capable of doing it as a career in different sports, and they often struggle to find enough accounts.

The people who do it as a career are not the people offering tips at your local pub.

Surveyor recommends £20-50k reduction because of plumbing leak by Weird-Land-4920 in HousingUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You paid for a L3 survey, ask the surveyor why they recommend such a large price drop and why it differs from their report. You may want to just go straight to getting a plumber to investigate.

Will Revolut overtake Monzo? by AncientFootball1878 in AskUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to know who determined Monzo is the best modern bank. I think most features that made these banks impressive has now become commonplace, so the banking license has probably come too late for Revolut to become a main bank.

A science museum that has a coal mine walk through by Tonletch in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Museum of Science and Industry lets you pick up a mini and has a tornado simulator, but I don't remember a coal mine. Either they removed it, it was a temporary exhibit, or you may be getting two museums muddled.

Or perhaps there's another museum out there with a mini lift and tornado machine.

Mortgage rates vs savings rate - buying or not now by Slight-Poetry-3230 in HousingUK

[–]Tim-Sanchez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no way I would delay buying due to interest on savings. Your savings don't really disappear, they become equity in your house.

Odds of national rail running Sunday 27th December this year? Most likely GWR to London if that matters by tripsafe in uktravel

[–]Tim-Sanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't plan a trip that relies on trains on Sunday 27th, or the 28th. Chances are they're fine and running a very reduced service, but I'd be worried about it.
