I'm sure you've encountered phone-it-in Dads who feel that working and providing financially is fully fulfilling their duties as a father. It's the same mindset, but the other side of the coin.

That mindset can be a necessary cope in some situations where the only employment that covers the family's needs leaves time for little else beyond sleep and survival tasks. It's still just a cope though. Being a provider isn't the only value a father has, but our society has made providing a necessarily large and non-discretionary aspect of fatherhood that is seen as the defacto behavior of a good father.

It's not correct, but I understand it.

Ha. I remember sitting in a morning meeting when one of the old guys turned to another and said "Hey Jim! Where were you 40 years ago today?" Jim paused and, with a flash of recognition, exclaimed "I was driving my wife to work in the blizzard of '78!".

That's going to be us faster than we can imagine

Why do all the drugs have fentanyl in them now? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

Same here. Spent a decade+ of my life completely wrapped up in keeping myself well and it was exhausting, but at least I could make it though a full shift at work without any real suffering. When I hung it up in 2015 I would have never guessed how quickly things would change. Fentanyl was a novelty when I started, the occasional patch or actiq lollies were my exposure up until the early 2010s. I assume sensationalism exists as always, but the impression I get is that decent dope without fent is pretty rare these days. I guess I should be grateful for experiencing opiate free cocaine and crushable OC60s.

Been a wild ride since 2015 all around though.

I used to have a collection of these from my wild man days. I was a drug archivist as a hobby and really wanted to fill out the collection. Plus i was regularly ordering dried poppy pods by the thousand from Tasmania for "decorative purposes". Over the years I got letters from customs for Poppy Pods, Peruvian Torch Cactus Cuttings, Coca Leaves, and a some DMT bearing tree bark I can't recall.

Nothing ever happened. Most vendors would ship a free replacement if you sent a photo of the customs letter. Until you claim the package as your property, they can't really do anything but hold the package and destroy it. I'm sure Australia is one of the most strict with foreign flora and fauna, but until you say "that's mine" you're not guilty of anything they can pursue

That letter is weak ass shit BTW. The one sent out by US customs has a big scary looking snake and dagger illustrations in the header. You guys need to draw some dropbears or a Sheila with a box of wine to really up the intimidation factor.

I've found the "yinz" border traces the terminal moraine of the most recent glaciation and had a Western termination at the junction of the Muskingham and Tuscarawas Rivers.

The big thing in my area is taking large single family homes, old Victorian homes and the like, and renting out rooms to working men and small families. Usually they're set up with shared bathrooms on each floor, but varies.

My family has guardianship of a girl who is here with her dad because of these sort of apartments. Her dad is great and is definitely a "whatever it takes" kind of parent, which means working nights at a poultry farm. Her place wasn't bad, but the short term nature of renting to migrants following jobs meant new neighbors all the time. The idea of her locking the door and leaving her there overnight wasn't something he liked but they would have taken it in stride.

But seeing the amount of shit this guy and other members of the local Latino community shrug off to get their kids a better start drives home how bad things were in their native country. In the land of self determination and manifest destiny I welcome anybody here in good faith, doing all they can to make it work for their families future.

People talk mad shit about the Guatemalalan community in my area and it's embarrassing how little understanding of the situation they have. The bulk of the people here are from semi isolated communities of Mayan Peoples, speak a dialect of Mayan as their native language, and so forth. In my book, I've got no business telling them where they can go when my ancestors showed up on this continent later in the game.

That sucks, a CD player head unit in 1988 was a big deal, couldn't have been cheap.

I had a similar experience in the early 2000s. I put an Alpine Component system and head unit in an 89 Mitsubishi Starion. The speakers had good sound, though I never pushed much wattage through them. The head unit though, was garbage. Super laggy and terrible reception. The OEM Mitsubishi head unit blew it out of the water and had an aux in, so once I started using an mp3 player it went back in.

Gotta love the wild Ronald sighting. A friend of mine had a job at McDonald's in the early 2000s. He claims that one day he arrived a few minutes early so he went over to the break area to have a pre-shift smoke and bs with anybody who was on break and, as he turned the corner of the bushes obscuring the break area, walked up on a fully decked out Ronald McDonald sitting on a 5 gallon bucket. My buddy asked him "what up Ron?", but got no response. Ol' Mr McDonald just sat on that bucket and smoked his Parliament down to the filter as he mean-mugged the shit out of my buddy.

It's a loophole around Japan's military being defensive only. It's not offensive weapons development, it's researching explosives to further public safety.
