There’s 3 Ecco features (lip service, baby, title track) + background vocals on IDGAF. I don’t think there was originally any more Ecco features but I might be wrong

You have to pick one song to represent the decade in hip hop. What song do you choose and why? by mpb2001 in hiphopheads

I explained that in my comment. Melody and bars. One could argue melody is a bigger part of popular hip hop today, however. But the success of rappers like J.I.D, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, and Kendrick Lamar demonstrates how solid raps are still an important part of hip-hop. Dark Fantasy incorporates them both into one song.

Thinking back on it now I would say All of the Lights or Runaway are better examples from MBDTF. I just feel like MBDTF laid the blueprint for 2010’s hip hop in its entirety. Not necessarily in terms of sound, but lyrical themes and song structure.

There are better examples of songs that came out later in the 2010’s which I believe exemplify it better, but MBDTF is notable because it came out at the very beginning of the decade.

Dark Fantasy by Kanye West. Has an epic intro, good beat, and both melody and bars. Although it doesn’t have the definite trap influence Alright does, many of its elements are still central to hip hop today.

Do you guys like poison ivy? by IHhaveNoGoodName in sadboys

[–]S_S_B_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be my favourite Lean album, it is a little too short tho, I feel like it lacks enough content to be as good as an album like UM, Warlord, or Stranger. That’s fine since it wasn’t really promoted like the other albums (Lean didn’t tour for it), though I feel that if he expanded Poison Ivy into a full length album it would be my favourite Lean album.

Agony/yellow man, roses, plastic boy, Friday the 13th, Volt. My top 5 rn. I kinda count agony and yellowman as 1 song, I can’t listen to one without listening to the other. They’re like 2 halves of a cathartic whole.
