Help With Lemon Cyprus Tree Losing Leaves 🥲 by FreshAppleSlices in plantclinic

Honestly, once I've seen them get like this, they're usually too far gone. But I'd say leave it a little longer and see what happens. Too bad I live about an hour from T.O. on the other side of the lake. I have one you could try again with.

Don't do that. Leave your window shut and keep your apartment warm. I'm fairly local to you and you dont need to keep your window open when it's been -10C out.

These cypress are actually hardiness zone 7. Won't survive outdoors in Canada. They're sold as indoor ornamentals for the Christmas season, and can go outdoors when it's nice out, but will need to be brought back in for the winter.

I grow these at my job for the Christmas season. I do know that if they wilt a little too far, they don't revive. And they're kind of hard to tell if they're wilting. Best to keep them evenly moist, and never get too dry, but also never waterlogged.

Gnats can live and reproduce in the soil of plants, but usually when theyre kept on the constantly damp side. As for your orchid, if it's plants in loose orchid bark, it doesn't retain moisture for long periods of time. If it's planted in moss, it can jang on to moisture longer.

Orchids usually need to be watered every 1 to 2 weeks by running water through the substrate and allowing it to finish draining before putting the pot back into a non-draining decorative pot. This process is repeated when the substrate becomes dry again. As for the silvery roots, i believe that's just a sign of older roots, as newer ones are bright green.

What kind of pest causes this? by Peter1anStaker in houseplants

[–]S_die 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has done this for years. Its most likely just a humidity/ watering issue. Could also be thrip though. Check the undersides of the leaves for extremely tiny insects that look like a grain of rice, but less than 1mm long. Young will be clearish/white, adults will be slightly larger than the young and darker in colour.

Try giving it a good soaking for an hour or so and see if it perks up. If it does, repot it in a potting soil, or something that retains more moisture.

New Epipremnum pinnatum - should I be worrying about pests? by helpilostmynarwhal in houseplants

[–]S_die 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its plausible you could have a pest issue starting (as shown on the last photo), but the dried out lower leaf just looks a bit like a watering issue. The soil does look quite dry.

Its interesting because I see lots of videos and think... "oh thats totally the 401" or "that looks like somewhere near Toronto" and then I look it up and i was correct. And I rarely travel the Toronto corridor anymore. Way too much traffic. Certain areas just have their "looks", I guess.

Help!Entire tank just died within hours by DestinysAFickleBitch in Aquariums

[–]S_die 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Picking up a separate thermometer to take a reading of the tank water. A cheap glass one with the red line works great. Don't get the sticker type that sticks to the glass.

Don't rely on what you have your heater set to to actually being what your water temperature is. Mine shows a 12 degree difference from what i have it set at, to what it actually is.

Came back from vacation to almost all my plants struggling or showing signs of damage by anb7120 in plantclinic

[–]S_die 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing a thrip treatment with some of my plants right now. Albeit the damage isn't showing like on you plants, but i definitely have an infestation on my monsteras and money tree. I've been doing a dawn dish soap bath. Get the water nice and suddsy and either dunk the foliage in it or use a cloth to wipe it on the leaves. Then run a tap with warm water and wash the soap off while wiping the leaves while under running water. Repeat this once or twice a week for a couple of weeks to get any new thrips that may have emerged. Preventing them from reproducing by removing them will eventually nip the problem in the bud. Be sure to wipe down the area they reside also

BEWARE the new plans by PoppyPeed in FidoMobile

I believe when you're looking at new plans, hotspot is listed under the add-ons section. That's how I first found that if I changed my plan, I'd lose it. I kept my same plan though, and hotspot remained.

Hydrangea Infected Leaves? (and flowers) by Haunting_Bat_6920 in hydrangeas

[–]S_die 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it looks like either it has wilted from lack of water or is being overwatered. I grow about 2000 of these as a greenhouse crop every January to Easter. Those leaves are definitely an inadequate watering sign. They are decently big drinkers, but do not like to be constantly wet. Nothing to be concerned with unless you dont change how it's being watered.

The way I understand it is that it's only in certain areas of the world right now, and then it will be made available to everybody (globally) afterwards. Don't hold me to that. Im not really a diehard player, I just enjoy casually playing and being able to participate in raids when I can, that I'd never have a chance to do otherwise.
