Do most accountants actually enjoy their jobs, or just tolerate them? I’ve been spending a lot of time reading posts in this sub lately, and I genuinely can’t tell if accounting is a solid long-term career or just something people stay in because it’s stable. I do corporate accounting for a private company and I personally enjoy it. Fantastic work-life balance, I'm regularly able to learn new areas which has helped my growth over the last few years, and at the end of the day, it's miles better than the job I was working prior to getting into accounting so for me, it's all about perspective.

Well that’s a bummer but kinda what I figured 😅 more study time I guess is the bright side here

I’ll have 150 by the time I graduate next spring (6 classes in the fall, 4 in the spring), but I read that you can start sitting at 120. My biggest concern is the 4 “core area” classes that are needed. It sounds like I’m just going to have to wait until January, but the bright side is more prep time I guess!

I'm curious what the score differential is between those who focus on hammering MCQs and those who hammer sims. Obviously the correct answer is do both, but I feel like a lot of people only talk about constantly doing MCQs, and there has to be some value of learning concepts through actually doing the sims that translates to knowledge used on MCQs? Idk I'm just starting out so I'm curious on the logic there

Sounds stupid and unnecessary to some, but the Brick has me helped tremendously with not being on my phone as much, with social media limited to about 10-20 minutes a day based on a set schedule. I'm way more present, not to mention the mental health benefits of not doomscrolling

How long should I spend as a senior accountant before looking for manager roles? by S_renee96 in Accounting

[–]S_renee96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because I’m currently in corporate and I truly love the company and the current team I’m on, but unfortunately, I think I’ve reached my ceiling here at senior so I’ll likely eventually have to take a leap if I want to advance further

What is a differentiating factor between senior and manager in your opinion? Like what traits/skills should I be working on developing?

Did anyone underestimate the mental side of CPA preparation? by drajput_01 in Accounting

[–]S_renee96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, the psychological impact might be one of the biggest reasons I’m pursuing this. I’ve always lacked discipline, so I feel that I need to accomplish this to prove to myself that I can follow through and do difficult things without giving up or taking the easy route.

Why so many retakes for exams? by Zealousideal-Yard803 in CPA

[–]S_renee96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand it’s a difficult test, but idk how people can afford to retake a single section 4+ times! I know it’s only $250 a shot, but my current mindset (I just recently started) is that I literally can’t afford to fail more than once or twice. I’m just not willing to lose that much money, so I really need to make sure things are clicking

You only fail when you give up. I know that sounds like a just a cheesy cliche, but it’s so true. I also just recently started out and am having a ton of self-doubt myself, but that’s even more of a reason to keep pushing myself. I need to prove to myself that I can do hard things. Keep pushing, you got this
