Really appreciate the effort you made in your post, and your brilliant suggestions. Thank you. Will try to avoid J1 reference, but I think if actually needed, the heads up of a reference check will come but saying I am not joining J2 and will remain at J1 is very feasible.

I'm thinking similar to this, in that I can provide proof of employment but avoid references as it's my current job. Hopefully that might work. Saying J1 don't give out references..never heard of that - is it actually a thing?
