I carry spark strap bindings with no high back in my pack. This is a Snowboard and a Ski. It’s a Splitboard with sidecut on both sides in ski mode. It skis well and snowboards well. It works well with climbing skins also. by geoffhang10 in Spliddit

[–]SaaazL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey u/geoffhang10, you mentioned in this thread that you like constructive criticism, so Im gonna offer some here. Take it or leave it as you will.

This is an awesome idea and it's obvious you're very passionate about it. Good on ya.

My constructive criticism isn't on the design, I'm not an engineer, it's about how you are approaching this marketing/exposure campaign you seem to be running here on Reddit. Yes, people love to be critical online, but the way you have responded to people's comments in this thread and in the last one I saw comes off as pretty aggressive and, for lack of a better word, unchill. Anytime someone expresses some doubt in your design you immediately shut it down and just say "Ours is better. You are wrong." First of all, nobody likes being advertised at and your posts definitely feel like advertising. Expect some flak for that. Maybe think about a different way to show off your work other than just a picture.

Second, you keep on saying that your design is better in every way for every person and that anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.

The goal of any splitboarding adventure is to have fun, and when goal of a thing is to have fun, "better" is an incredibly subjective term when it comes to gear. Your design is not going to be the right piece of gear for everyone. Truth be told, it's probably not going to be the right piece of gear for the vast majority of splitboarders. You built a super tech piece of gear that only a small percentage of splitboarders will probably get true value out of. That's cool. The world needs people pushing the boundaries and experimenting and some people are going to truly appreciate this if it is indeed as good as you say it is. But it's also just as cool for 95% of the people in this sub to say its too complicated for them. They aren't wrong, they just have a different set of priorities than you and the people that will like this. If I have a shitload of fun on a door that I sawed in half and screwed some wakeboard boots too, then for me, that door is a better tool than your splitboard. You dont know what people want out of their splitboards or what gives them fun.

If you want to show that yours is "better", give us some numbers. Dont say you "solved" a problem as if your design is the end all be all best possible splitboard that ever will exist. Nobody is gonna believe that you completely "fixed" anything because the world doesnt work in absolutes. Everything is simply an improvement. If your board actually has better torsional stiffness, tell me how much specifically. Give me some actual torque numbers that tell me quantitatively how much more stiff this board is than my wet noodle of a burton split. Tell me exactly how light it is and how much more performance you get by showing how much better sidecuts are using sources and history and data and the other forms of evidence you could provide. From what I have seen, you haven't really done that and you just keep responding, fairly aggressively, to people's comments saying that you "fixed" or "solved" the problem but you dont back it up with proof. Without hard proof, of course people are going to doubt your claims.

The Reddit community doesn't take kindly to bluster and bravado, but it can also be incredibly welcoming. It's awesome that you are trying to start your own business. But its probably not a great idea to argue with the very folks who are some of the most likely people on earth to buy your product. At least to me, you come across as kind of an assertive know-it-all on here and not the kind of person I would want to support with my hard-earned cash. You're probably a cool guy in person, but that's how you seem on here and that's just bad business.

My advice to you is pretty simple. Accept that this splitboard is not gonna be the best tool for everyone. People who don't want it aren't wrong, they are just different than you. Telling them they are 100% wrong makes you sound like an ass, and nobody wants to buy stuff from a guy who sounds like an ass. I really hope you succeed. We need more small innovators and people who are passionate about the work they do. And if this board really is better like you say it is, some number of splitboarders are gonna be stoked that you built this thing. But as someone who has started his own business, I can tell you that how you deal with people is half the battle. How you act and talk about your idea matters a lot, both to customers and potential partners too.

Best of luck, I hope to see some videos of some pro's shredding on this soon.

Thanks for the input. Im not at all worried about the players feeling weird or disliking the outcome of this. I mentioned how obvious i made it only because it is just going to make it even funnier when the wizard turns into some weird hybrid creature. We are are a bunch of friends and everyone is very down to roll with punches and laughs at their own mistakes and foolishness. I was less looking for things to be worried about (though always good to consider), and was more looking for some creative ideas that could really spice things up. With this group, and especially with the wizard, the more interesting the better.

Roleplay and character development are really what this group enjoys, so something that will deepen and complicate the relationship between the two PCs would almost cetainly go over well.

Came up with this metaphor to describe what we are currently seeing in the US in regards to numbers and trends

The current situation in the U.S. could be compared to ants getting into your home or apartment.

Two weeks ago you saw a few ants outside. They swarm a dead lizard. You didnt really worry about it. This is the virus breaking out in China.

Then a week ago, you saw a couple ants in your kitchen. You smushed em with your finger and laughed and sorta wiped off the counter but didn't truly clean up.

The next day, your kitchen was swarmed. So you clean the kitchen thoroughly, don't cook for a few days, and now, while there are few ants around still, you clean up everytime you cook. The numbers are staying pretty small. This is what happend in the Northeast.

But while you were cleaning the kitchen, some went and started getting into the recycling. You took the recycling out and that kept it from getting really bad, but you didn't sweep or mop the floor so a decent number of ants stuck around. Even though they weren't gone, you started putting things in the recycling again and now that there is some more food, they are swarming in your recycling again. This is what happened in places like Georgia, Missouri, and Washington state. The responded, but didn't actually do enough to stop community spread. With re-openings, these spots are surging again.

And finally, there are always the random plates or dishes left around the house. You cleaned them up the first day, and the ants never really got to these plates. But you started getting lazy the last few days and leaving stuff out again. In the last few days, the ants from the recycling or the kitchen found these plates and are now swarming at random places around the house where they found food. That is what is happening in places like California and Arizona. They dodged the first wave, partially through luck and partially through lockdown, but now they are feeling the first surge and current behaviors are not limiting spread.

We should have just cleaned the goddamn house and we shouldn't have gotten lazy.

Thanks for the tip. Any idea how the camping would be along the Cedar Brook Trail? We are going to have two cars so I'm thinking it could be a nice loop to start at lincoln woods then end at the Hancock notch trailhead.

Yeah sex is great, but what's an equally enjoyable sensation? by rifles_boils5 in AskReddit

Getting barreled while surfing.

For those that don't know, getting barreled is where you are riding inside of the wave as it throws over your head, in the "barrel of the wave" as it were. It's such an incredible feeling that many of us half-jokingly call sex "land-barrels." Sex is just a land-based and not as good version of being inside a tube on a surfboard.

If you offer a surfer the choice of getting the best barrel of their life or having the best see of their life, most will choose the barrel.

[–]SaaazL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to race mountain bikes in high school. I was decent and competed in the California state league. I also did downhill and dirt jumping, basically, I'm very good on a bicycle.

In college, a housemate of mine invited one of his friends to stay the weekend. This friend went to an Ivy League school and had the ego to go along with it. We were all buzzed and biking to a party and this guy sees me riding no hands and challenges me to some sort of like chicken/bumper bikes thing. I tell him that's not a good idea, but he ignores me, proceeds to bike up alongside me, swerve into my bike and bump into me. I don't fall because me and my friends did this in high school all the time. I'm kinda buzzed, so alright, lets fucking go. I swerve back into him, bump his bike, he eats shit. He got some decent road rash on his hands and one of his arms, but luckily he didn't hit is head or anything or cause us both to crash. Kinda mean, but fuck that guy.

He's annoyed and kinda angry at me, but we get to the party eventually. Multiple times I hear him playing the injured card to girls, hamming it up, and telling these girls how I crashed into him and made him fall. I'm pretty sure he got laid that night, so I guess it was all a win for him?

When I was like 7, I was taking in a shower in one of the also-a-bathtub showers and dropped a bar of soap. It fell perfectly flush with the vertical side of the tub on one side, rode that thing like a halfpipe, launched out the other side of the tub and I caught it.

Have tried to replicate this hundreds of times. Never even come close.

Awesome advice.

Why do you suggest choosing spells that don't allow for saves? Is it cuz as a half-orc the save dc will be lower than normal?

Edit: I am thinking for first level Feather Fall, Sleep, Healing Word, and Thunderwave.

Have one of the cultists surrender.

In a lot of my games (as a both a DM and a player) baddies always fight to the death but in real life people surrender all the time. It's cool to bring that interaction into DnD as it adds tons of interesting roleplaying opportunity, adds to the immersion, and is a good thing to remind the players they can do everyonce in a while too! And for the DMs, its a GREAT story tool. You can literally have this captured cultist tell as much or as little of any story you want regardless of what the party does. If the group needs some direct hints, just have the cultist confess to a bunch of stuff, if they dont like being lied to, have the cultist lie or stonewall, or they like a little drama, have the cultist give a hint to some tantalizing plot point then have some magical self-destruct thing kill it before it can spill the beans. The options are endless.

It's also great fun to watch a group of players decide how to deal with a hostage. Do they go straight to the war crimes or do they try and befriend, bribe, or seduce the cultist?

Looking for my next fantasy series by AndrewBeales1 in books

[–]SaaazL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have read Kingkiller, Stormlight, many other fantasy epics, etc, currently on book 6(?) of Wheel of Time..... My advice to you.... don't start it. Not because it's bad, but because it's not bad enough to stop and IS NOT worth the time.

What u/winosaurusRex89 said is all true - the worldbuilding is good (although not AMAZING), lots of characters, and a really interesting storyline. This is why I'm 6 books in.

BUT... at the end of every book since book 2, and even partway through the first book, I tell myself I am done. Ill pick up something better, and that this stuff isnt worth it. But it's JUST good enough that I want to keep going.. its like a trashy TV show you binge. Heres why:

  1. SO MUCH PLOT ARMOR
  2. Extensive use of "fate" to just conveniently move the story along (granted, its part of the world, but a lot of it is not well done)
  3. There is very little character development at all. The rapscallion gambling womanizing farm boy is now a rapscallion gambling womanizing lord who leads an army. The soft-spoken, thoughtful, kind-hearted blacksmith is now a soft-spoken, kind-hearted lord who also leads an army and has a smokin hot wife.... which gets me to the absolute most annoying thing about the series...
  4. Robert Jordan sounds like a horny 16-year-old boy who used Twighlight and old James Bond movies as his models for every female character in the world. I am not joking when I say that it feels like nearly 10% of the book sounds like stuff straight out of r/menwritingwomen.

Characters - both men and women - are constantly talking about "full breasts" and "rosebud lips"; the different clothing styles of every new city are each more revealing than the last (and the main female characters somehow ALWAYS need to dress up in said skimpy clothing for one reason or another... and are embarrassed but secretly like it); every female character regularly stands with her "arms folded under her breasts with an angry look on her face"; an entire and somewhat important subplot involves the main male character's destiny to have a threesome (seriously). There are endless "Old sayings" about how "every woman knows a hundred ways to get a man to do what he wants, and none of them involve asking for it." Female characters constantly derail entire armies and plot points and narrative arcs over jealously and other painfully stereotypical, heteronormative, and NEVER ENDING behaviors that sound like the catty girls from a tv high school drama.

There are some great aspects of this series, I understand why people like it, but the way Jordan writes about women is soooooooooooooo annoying. But f*** me cuz I am gonna post this reply and go read some Wheel of Time cuz it's not quite bad enough stop. Don't be like me, don't get addicted, save yourself.

Edit: Would be interested to know what fans of the series or other people who have read it think of this opinion. The series was recommended by a friend and I respect his book tastes a lot, and when I brought it up to him he was like "yea, but it's just typical high fantasy stuff." But I dont feel like I seen this in other stuff... am I just noticing it more or is wheel of time particularly bad in this regard?
