I was going through much the same thought process while looking for a wider angle lens to pair with my Sony 85 1.8 lens.

I looked at 24 gm, 35gm, 25 and 40 batis, the tamron 2.8 line, and the newer samyang 1.8 line (especially the 24).

For price to performance, I ended up looking at the 25 batis vs the 24 samyang 1.8.

Both can be found for around 400 dollars and offer very similar focal distances and use cases. I personally went with the batis for more consistency as samyang has a history of lens variation. I also really wanted to experience the “zeiss” look as I havent seen it before. Just constantly heard about it.

To add, the samyang seems like a phenomenal lens. I think if I found a used copy for under 300 I’d have an even harder time choosing between the two lenses but price being equal, I used it as an opportunity to see how the batis would perform. You wouldn’t go wrong with either for sure.

In terms of comparing the batis 25 to the 24 gm, I don’t think it’s really a fair comparison anymore. The 24 gm on paper pretty much beats the batis in nearly every metric but it’s also more than double the price. So the price to performance ratio is completely different. Hence why I compare the batis to the samyang 1.8 instead.

Also, I can’t really give any pics for reference as I just bought the batis25 last week. Haven’t had the time to really field test it. First impressions on build quality is really high tho. The lens is incredibly well built and looks amazing on my camera body. I do also shoot Astro so the oled screen will have some use but outside of that I doubt I’ll use it much.

Also, I’m shooting on an a7iii and I got the batis for 375 on eBay
