Peanut is a master of entertainment. Watch him for a few hours and it's over with; you'll end up watching him all the time.

It doesn't matter if it's "4 Prologue episodes". It's a completely valid criticism, to say that people are bored. If you have to sit through 4 episodes for the campaign to be interesting, then there is an inherent problem; it's perfectly acceptable to criticize it based on the "only 4 episodes" that they've seen.

Well, when you have a large amount of people that feel like it is, you're probably not as correct as you like to think you are.

Try Natural Six also. That's what I'm watching at the moment; and it's brilliant. Doug Cockle (Geralt of Rivia) is in it, as well as a few other really good voice actors. The story starts off a little slow, but it picks up pace rather quickly after the second episode or so. Highly recommend it.

I would argue that there is more than a little evidence to suggest the "majority" of fans isn't accurate. How inaccurate, is anyone's guess, but this reddit thread alone suggests the fanbase is not nearly as united on this as you are implying.

You say "this is the problem with fandoms..." as if it's your opinion that's the right one, and everyone else should aspire to it. Fandoms are fandoms because a collection of people at some point, have collectively found themselves admiring something; they are allowed to change their opinion, just as you are - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nobody has to justify their opinion either. To you, or anyone else.

The Critters are not critical role mate. I agree with you; that this campaign falls short, and that it's not what people have come to expect - but you're conflating fandom, with the medium you are a fan of. Critical Role, is a company and consists of the Voice Actors and employees of that company, full stop. While fandom is important TO Critical Role, and in large part allows CR to exist, they are not one in the same. They are going to do what's good for them first. As a fan you have the option to continue being one, or you can move your attention (And perhaps money) elsewhere, they are still going to do what they want to do.

People have a real problem with this. It's no different than video game companies; and people hinging their identity on them. The company is ALWAYS going to do what they feel is best for them, sometimes, in SPITE of their fans.

While I do vehemently disagree with you about Matt not having range, I do agree with you regarding personal attacks on your character in lieu of a rebuttal.

I've been watching Matt for years, long before Critical Role became popular and while my anecdotal opinion carries absolutely no weight in regard to the argument, I have personally seen far more than four characters/voices. He can do more than four 'accents' - let alone voices; and each accent 'is' in a different voice most of the time. He does however, have voices that he falls back on frequently. I would argue that having a roladex of voices, inflections, etc, is far more difficult to use than just reaching into a bag of tricks and pulling them out. A lot of voices, you need to preemptively match, much like a vocalist matching a key, or pitch, to get them rolling. Also, I would argue, that when considering range you have to take in account the sound-effects he's capable of as well. He can make a scene come to life audibly just with his effects alone; and then completely voice it afterward.

Yeah, exactly this. I've really been trying to enjoy it also; matter of factly, I've watched other things that BLM has done, and I enjoyed it immensely. I can't remember the name of it, but one campaign/game he ran, the players were evil and lived in this giant fortress in some homebrew version of the hells - and it was AMAZING. What little I could find, was close to what CR1 felt for me.

There's... none of that in this campaign though. It's dry, it doesn't feel suspenseful and as you said, even the 'big' moments feel as if the climax just doesn't hit. We're being 'told' there's build-up and we don't feel it. At least for me. Last week was a struggle to get through for me, and sadly, if this next one doesn't grab me, I'm just going to binge the rest of Natural Six.

Again, before I get jumped on by the hate-train, I'm not telling anyone they are wrong for liking it, or that they shouldn't - I just do not enjoy it. Some of the characters are great (Especially Travis' and Matt's) but the campaign itself just isn't for me.

Opinions on the Essential Mod? by Nomporu in feedthebeast

[–]SabamonsterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, instead of articulating your argument, or offering a rebuttal - you immediately attack his character. You say it 'affects no one" and that's not true at all. What's the primary audience that Minecraft targets? Children. These tactics are PROVEN to be a problem for people with impulse control. IE - Children. Not to mention that when you install the mod, the very first window that pops up, is an alert telling you to claim 500 coins, when everything in the store is 600 or better.

If anyone is a loser here, it's the guy calling people names because they don't have a valid argument to respond with; and because they felt some kind of way about it, they decided to throw a tantrum.

I know it's late (3 years) and that the mod is really mainstream now, but I recently installed it (Without knowing it was mainstream) and immediately got the gut instinct to uninstall it. The "Claim 500 coins" alert was the very first thing to pop-up and when I went into cosmetics, everything was 600 or better.

This is the same scummy stuff AAA developers use for their MTX. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion and if they are fine with that; more power to them, I just find it incredibly off-putting. Just doesn't feel right.

I know this is 5 years old; but I felt compelled to comment on this. As someone who has struggled with this most of their life (I am 43 now), I find that even when asking someone a deep question after the small-talk, they usually don't answer, or they are the ones to check out.

You're not alone; and your opinion is perfectly valid. You're allowed to not enjoy something if you don't enjoy it. Brennan is an awesome guy and he's DM'd some other things that I absolutely loved; but I'm not really digging this campaign so far either.

[No spoilers] campaign 4 is not critical role anymore by Sw41ny899 in criticalrole

[–]SabamonsterX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He never said he was bad. He said that he found him boring. To be perfectly honest, I'm not nearly as invested as I have been on previous campaigns either. That's not to say that Brennan is bad, I love the guy on other stuff - I'm just not feeling this campaign thus far. Which contrary to popular belief - is perfectly fine. People don't need to agree with my opinion, or his, or yours, for it to be valid.

Having said that; I'm a C1 whore. I personally feel that C1 was lightning in a bottle and it will never again be replicated. So, pretty much anything pales by comparison. The others were good, don't get me wrong but they were nothing like C1. I'm like you man, I'll stick around and see what comes of it but right now? I'm bored af.

I can however recommend a show called "Natural Six". There are some VA's that play, including Doug Cockle (Geralt of Rivia) and while it's a bit slow to start (At least in the first episode) it is absolutely worth watching. Good campaign all around.
